When people tack "not being funny" onto the end of their posts, it means they ARE being funny (in the stupid meaning, not the humourous one), but are attempting to get a free pass by saying "not being funny". It's like saying to someone: "I really hate your Dad, no offence" as if the "no offence" tacked onto the end, negates the preceding, deliberate offence.

You're right - you're not funny AT ALL (nor even vaguely rational). ;)

This might help some.

Picks up phone and tells Apple that I did actually have every single song in history stored on my computer. I'm sure they'll believe me :D

If they need to cross reference just say piratebay :p

Apple today confirmed reports of an issue that causes music from personal collections to be deleted, telling The Loop it only affects a small number of users and that a fix is incoming in an iTunes update next week.

Last week, debate raged over the supposed glitch after Vellum's Jake Pinkstone wrote a blogpost complaining that Apple Music had deleted 122 GB of his personal music collection without his permission after he joined the service. The deletion occurred after Pinkstone had his music library scanned by Apple to make his collection available across his devices.

Confusion ensued after Pinkstone was told by an Apple Support Representative named Amber that Apple Music's matching system was "functioning as intended." When asked whether Apple Music was supposed to delete his personal music without his permission, Amber responded "yes." Amber's statement, however, was inaccurate according to Apple's own support document.

While the causation of the bug is still unknown, as Apple has failed to reproduce the issue, the company's statement suggests Apple has narrowed down the issue to iTunes rather than the Apple Music service. It's unclear whether the fix will arrive with a minor or major iTunes update. However, one possibility is iTunes 12.4, which will include a minor redesign and arrive in the next couple of weeks, according to a MacRumors source.

This article does not state that Apple confirmed the issue. They merely said that users have reported the issue and that Apple has been unable to reproduce it. But to help, they are issuing additional safeguards in a future update. Sounds like people are having unique situations that cause this

What unique situations?

The iTunes 2.0 installer shipped for a few hours with an rm -rf /Volumes/* in the postflight script. Fortunately there were a lot fewer users back then to have all of their data destroyed.

Apple's software quality is undeniably in decline, but iTunes has always been a piece of garbage.

When I read this, I didn't quite believe it. Wow! http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/OSX/itunes2_erased_drives.html Was MacRumors around back in those days? I'd love to read the thread if so!

The gaping discrepancy between the quoted Apple statement and the MacRumors headline (and article) is a little discomforting, and the chorus line of readers who apparently comment without reading outright depressing. Methinks it's not just Apple who needs to tighten up quality control here...

last night i tried to transfer a couple albums from my iTunes library and all my album art work started disappearing off my iPhone, psst!

Icloud is horrible, I know this is not specifically ICloud, I just had a pretty bad experience.
I was using Ibooks and Icloud, but then I had to move that library to another computer. This is when I truly came to realize how horrible Icloud really is.
I went and checked where my books folder was, and found the folder. But that was half of my Ibook library.
So then I had to go look to where the hell were half of my other books.
You would assume they would be easy to find in ICloud drive, but nope, they were not there.

Then I did a search with Alfred, and found a book.
But the funny thing, when I and clicked to go the folder, it said I was in Icloud Drive, but when you went into Icloud, it wasn't there.

Luckily I did this again with Alfred, and it pointed to some hidden folder, somewhere hidden in the computer.

After, that getting half my books that were in that hidden file, merging with the other library, was another mission.

Dropbox is so simple, if you see a folder, those files are there. In Icloud, the whole thing is a convoluted mess.

I cancelled my Icloud immediately.

And to think, if you had just purchased those books physically, none of this would have happened. I think people really need to re-think this whole "virtual everything" idea. The idea of progression is to make things better. I don't think what you went through is better than grabbing a book off a shelf.

I'm on my free trial of the Music thing currently - don't even know what it's called. My verdict: the music is excellent (I like classical music) but boy is the interface confusing. I listen to the radio, want to find out more about a track, and then lose my place in the playlist. Also why does Beats 1 or whatever its called always come up as the top choice? I only listen to classical music - surely they know this by now. As for the music swap or match or whatever, I was kind of looking forward to that but I see no evidence of that happening on my tracks - do you need an iCloud subscription or something?

As for syncing, I have to run two calendars on my phone because I can't trust iCal to sync appointments faithfully. So I check notifications, if there's nothing there I need to go to GCal to double-check, sure enough there are often unsynced appointments. I can't see why after so many years Apple can't get the cloud right.

I used to rent loads of movies from Apple because where I live the options are very limited. But I changed cards and I can't get the new one accepted, so I need to buy myself gift tokens at a local electronics shop. When I run out of credits, I make no purchases, until I can be bothered to go the shop, register the card etc, which is never when I want to rent a movie. I don't get what benefit Apple gets from this - I spend tens of dollars a month with them. How many sales are they losing this way? I never download apps on my phone because I can't copy and paste my long password into the interface, and it keeps on asking me for my password. More lost sales. Why, Apple, why? Very likely when I get to the end of my free Music trial I won't subscribe because of the inertia of going to buy a gift card and using it, even though I like the service.

I'm still a loyal Apple user, and probably always will be - I realise there's no perfect alternative - but if you charge the most you've really got to have the best products.

Of course there's a bug. And not one, but many. iTunes, the Mac App Store, Photos, Contacts, Mail, iCloud, ... have so many bugs. In itself that's not surprising or terrible, but the speed they are getting fixed (if at all) is getting worrisome.

As a long time Apple user, I have noticed a recent decline QA in software, hardware, and decline customer service at Apple Support.

I have talked to Apple Support and visited the Genius Bar more in in the past year for problems with my Spple products, than the the previous 20 years that I have been using Apple stuff.

I am not surprised by this news, and hopefully it will shut up the posters that said people were making it up or that it was user error.
Well Apple is saying flat out that they can't reproduce the error... So maybe it might be helpful if people post what steps they took to get the offending behavior. I was definitely under the impression that iTunes match was a likely culprit here... Ive been able to store my "ripped" mp3 on my phone and in iTunes with very little trouble. so....

People saying that software is on the decline are not being realistic here... I think people are just louder and more vocal because Apple has more customers now. I think their software has gotten better tbqh....

Bugs happen although ones that unpredictably delete files should never get pass QA. However what is so galling is the fact that while the hardware and software continues to deteriorate in quality we still get those cringeworthy and pathetic live product launches and videos endlessly trying to talk up the latest non-innovation or pointless feature set. What misplaced arrogance! I would prefer a company whsoe arrogance comes from being on top of their game with products they can be boastful about because they are relevant to users, competitive in the market and reliable.
