How is this in any way relevant to server performance?

You forgot one thing. Apple's servers need to talk to AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, etc servers. There is a validation check to see if you qualify. They could have beefed up their own netwotk but are at the mercy of the carriers as well.

The validation checks is what was timing out for me. I don't know if my experience hold true for others.

Perhaps not, but one might argue they make more revenue via supplying parts than sales of Samsung Notes. ;)

It's a valid argument of course because the Note is not the next big, its just a big thing.

Although the irony is, Samsung saying the iPhone is bleh is saying their parts are bleh too.

But then, no one ever accused Samsung of being GOOD at marketing

Ha ha ha, you see this is why you can't compare these things unless you are a discerning reader.

The 9 million "preorders" of the SIII in this article refer to orders made by carriers, not customers, and the "shipped" numbers are not "sales" numbers at all but actually only unsold units shipped to retailers and carriers in preparation for sale.

That is not to say that the SIII was not Samsung's most successful Galaxy phone, because I believe it was, didn't it sell 40 million over its life? Twice that of its predecessor, but also twice that of its successor as well (correct me if I'm wrong).

Its just that journalists tend to use shipped and sold so interchangeably, whether intentionally or not, that it can be easy to get confused.

how many were upgrades of that 4 million how many were new if all were upgrades then you cant jump for joy it just means its apple fans who are the buyers good for apple all around but bad for apple fans no new gain lets see I ordered one so im an upgrader im not new

Yeah, but Android ships a billion units a month. :D

 Are sure that's a month or you meant to say a year. I would hate to sell a billion android's in a month and still have Apple make billions of dollars in profit more than all companies that ship android's.

Not really, it's saying that the way their parts are used is blah.

I'm not saying they don't change their minds. They have and I'm sure they will again for something else, but this is just a very weak argument in my mind, just like the iSheep never wanted larger phones argument. Has anyone ever read these forums at all? People have wanted larger iPhones for a long frickin time!!

In fact I would argue that adding reachability is proof they know it's not the perfect size.

Exactly.

Apple pretty much confirmed what we knew: they weren't willing to put out a larger screen size -for years- because of usability issues. Once they got the processes and software lined out to make for a better user experience, they deployed the technology. This is classic Apple, and people overly concerned with specs never get it. This is why they've been predicting the death of Apple since 1995.

Apple Confirms Record-Breaking Four Million First Day Pre-Orders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

AND it's a good thing Apple supposedly produced 20 million units for the launch. The most they've ever produced this early. We'll see.

Really hope this is true. I stopped at AT&T over the weekend and they told me I better pre-order as they don't expect the public to just walk-in and purchase an iP6 until January 1'st 2015! (I think this is total BS hyperbole in attempts to secure more pre-orders, but WTF?)

There's a lot of crap flinging in here at Samsung and Android.

I must remind these iPhone users of something very important that it seems they're conveniently forgetting. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are catch-up products.

Just about every feature iPhone 6 and iPhone Plus have, Samsung and other Android manufacturers have been producing for many years prior.

spectrumfox, that's pretty...

Wow. The amount of incorrect information in that "revenge" pic is astounding. Desperation levels are strong with this image. Let's go over some of the better parts...

Adaptive Brightness: Been a part of Android well before Android L. Samsung phones in particular have enjoyed that since the first Galaxy S, and other manufacturers have had that ability for just as long. It's nice to see Apple catching up.

Lockscreen notifications: Been a part of Android since before KitKat. It's nice to see Apple catching up.

Do Not Disturb: Samsung Galaxy phones have had this since Galaxy S3. It's nice to see Apple catching up.

64-bit Support: Not very useful for an iPhone with only 1GB ram, but hey, at least it's there, right?

Wireless screen mirroring: Been a part of Samsung Galaxy phones since GS3. It's nice to see Apple catching up.

And I think it's hilarious that this image mentions pinch-to-zoom considering it's well known Apple threatened companies with lawsuits if they even tried introducing this feature in other phones. Luckily that didn't stand up in court.

The hyperbole in that image is simply impressive.

Now I'm just sittin back eating popcorn looking at the back and forth..

And yes I'll keep on track with my new iPhone

This logical explanation would not support their narrative though. Their entitlement and pessimistic attitude towards Apple would only make their brain explode with logic. Also they can do a better job than Apple can. They are CEOs of their home computer.

no hope for humanity

no wonder corporations treat people like a herd of cows,
We think we are growing up and becoming smarter, but we are the same dumb kids that wanted a toy because others had it.
why else would any one spend 800$ on something they never saw

The point is that is idiotic to compare specs by specs sake, and dear Ron even mixed iPhone the hardware with Android the software and whatnot.

What gives that is so hard to non Apple buyers to swallow that Apple sells a lot, and that millions of iPhone users are well satisfied with their products?

64-bit Support: Not very useful for an iPhone with only 1GB ram, but hey, at least it's there, right?

Actually, it is very useful since it is written in an entirely new processor architecture. That's why Apple's 1.4GHz dual core processors can outperform Samsung's 2.4GHz quad-core processors. I'm sure in 2015 once Samsung catches up with what Apple did in 2013 they'll trumpet how great the new architecture is, even with less than 4GB of RAM.

Given that the iPhone 6 still contain Samsung parts, don't they also win the more Apple sells?
Just sayin.

That's the Samsung electronics + components department. Their boss _loves_ Apple. But the advert is made by the Samsung mobile devices department. Their boss _hates_ Apple. Unfortunately, the mobile devices department makes more money, otherwise the boss of Samsung electronics + components would kick the arse of the boss of Samsung mobile devices.

I've used just about every flagship Android phones in addition to my iPhones for several years (work and home). There are things that both platforms have.
There are stuff on iOS that Android only just got or still have not got that makes iOS preferable for many people. It is base on your use case.

-For years, Android never got working Cisco VPN. Just recently and it is still kludgey. 5-6 years. CalDAV is supported by 3rd party apps but iOS treates it like a 1st party solution. If you are not using Google's calendar service, you are at the mercy of the 3rd party apps that aren't that good in my opinion. Same thing with PUSH IMAP.

-For years, I still have not seen a good photo management solution for organizing photos. For example, if I take pictures of a wedding, I may want to have the picture of the couple's toast first, the vows secondly. In Android organization is based on alphabetical naming, EXIF, or creation date. You can't randomly sort and arrange like you do on iPhoto. There is still no good 3rd party Play Store apps that match iPhoto or iMovie on Android.

- For years, music management is still better on iOS. I have 20,000 tracks and I can have 5 different computers and 10 iOS devices play from the same library at the same time. I can stream music to multiple speakers in my house across multiple floors. My wife can stream music in the kitchen to the patio at the same time while I stream to the bedroom and my office. All from the same account. I can play my music from my office while my wife plays the same library in the car. My kids can play the same library at home all at the same time. Google Play works with only one device at a time. Apple AirPlay is still undisputed for multi-room streaming and it is free. No need for Sonos.

- For years, for my workflow, managing cloud servers and databases was still better on iOS due to the better app selections. My use case, iOS ecosystem is better.

I'm not saying Android is bad. I liked my HTC ONE for the 1st month. I got me a 128GB micro-sd card then I found out Google is locking that down. 3rd party apps are sandboxed and siloed. The biggest benefit of Android over iOS was gone (ability to use sd card expandability). Then my camera easily gets scratched because HTC didn't think it was worth it to use sapphire on the camera lens (this is a big and common problem). It was those little details that bothered me. The HTC does have a better audio DAC but I still want better. I want to power my $600 headphones but the Android solution is klunky with USB OTG-dongle and external DAC. Now, 3rd parties are coming out with Lightning connector 24 bit DACs.

So it is the little things that makes iOS appealing for many people.

With all the bashing of Apple not innovating.. I really would like to see Samsung's next best thing. Will it be bigger screens? Or something really innovating like getting rid of plastics, interchange battery and microsd? Oh wait Samsung Alpha. Seriously what will Samsung do next? Or Wait for iPhone 6S/7 rumors and throw a bunch of stuff on the board and hope it sticks.
