This is stupid. This Brazilian Regulators, money grabbers with no respect for the environment.

PS: Heavy dosage of sarcasm.
You know: after having burnt that much rain forest, these plastic things wont make the situation much worse in Brazil. The supplementary impact is not measurable.

PS: even more sarcasm.

Almost nobody has USB-C chargers (unless they're already in the Apple ecosystem). By giving away a USB-C to Lightning cable, you ensure newcomers will need to find some rather specific chargers (don't forget 99% of the world uses regular USB), and Apple will be right there to sell it to them.
Or if you bought a Samsung phone before, or one of many other phones that come with USB-C chargers. If you have an existing iPhone charger, you will have the matching cable as well, and you use it. If you have an existing USB-C charger from a competitor, you use the new cable.

My son just brought an iphone 12 and he was grousing about the usb-c cable and lack of charger. I asked how he planned to charge his phone then. He said he would use the cables and chargers from his previous iphones. Case closed.
Yeh I realised my mistake soon after posting. Thought for a moment it required Lightning to USB-C only 🤦‍♂️

They be be forced to include one in every country. Car dealers don't sell cars without wheels because you have some on your old car. Shoes don't come without shoe laces cause you have older ones. This nonsense about you have old ones is annoying and anyone who defends it, just wants to defend a company for being a fan of their products. I bought a iPhone 12 Pro max but it still should have came with a charger.
If your tires were really expensive but lasted for 20 years and 500,000 miles, new cars would come without tires.

Don’t understand the handwringing here. When my wife bought me a new iPhone a few months ago. I did not even remove the charger, cable or headphones from the box. Why?..... I already have 2 extra chargers sitting in a drawer and 4 more plugged into various outlets in the house.

Seriously..... if you have been buying iPhones over the years.... don’t you already have several chargers??
sure, but now you have a phone with fast charging capabilities and you're stuck using a slow old brick to charge your new phone with. if apple truly cared about the environment, they would have done away with the lightning port on the iphone and made it usb c. I wouldn't complain at all about the block then, bc i already have an ipad pro and a macbook air that use that.

so then you sell the car to someone else and say, oh yeah it doesn't come with tires so you can't test drive it, but buy it anyways, then install your own tires. lol how ridiculous

Warn people on the packaging that a charger is required but not included. Don’t naively think Apple’s main reason was the environment. Move on with life. Case closed.

And why are you not just using the provided Lightning to USB-C cable with the iPad Pro power brick?

Unless Apple has gotten really fancy with their hardware identification and logging on the device, there's no way they could tell if you used an Apple charger or not when your device was 'fried'.
It's quite obvious if your device was fried by the charger. And if you don't have an Apple charger, or the Apple charger is fine, then they know it was not fried by an Apple charger.

On the other hand, bad chargers can damage more than just your iPhone, so anyone with half a brain will buy a decent charger.

Apple should be forced to include a free charger, at time of purchase, to anyone who wants one. Period. To sell a device that can’t be used without additional purchase is just wrong. I get it that many people already have charging bricks and don’t need another charger...those people can choose not to request one. Anyone buying a phone who needs a charger should get one, free of charge.

bc the power brick is behind a dresser like every other normal person on planet earth. apple's genius idea to keep lightning port would require someone to constantly change cables each time they want to charge a different device. You have to ask yourself an honest question, why didn't apple change the iphone to usb c if they "really" cared about the environment?

To you, not everyone has chargers laying around. The argument doesn't make sense at all. Its also a USB-c to lightning. Most people don't have those. All apple did was nudge people to magsafe and to one of their $20 chargers that should have been in the box.
USB-A to lightning works just fine with the new phones.

Gotta love some of the responses here. "Apple did it for environmental reasons" "You want a charger you'll have to pay for it".

So which was it, environmental or financial?!

Surely if their motive was purely environmental, they'll have no problem footing the cost of a charger, you know, the one they're legally obliged to give out in certain countries.
It’s both. The financial gain aspect is implied. Apple is a business. If a business doesn’t equal or overcome its expenses, it won’t exist. The environmental impact argument/claim is beside that.

This is the same, tiresome, hypocritical, selfish, nonsensical demand in a new suit. “Give us all kinds of accessories.” “Here’s the price.” “I won’t pay that.” “Okay, go away.“ “You owe it to me.” “Not at all. NEXT!” — “We need roads repaired. Some of us need cash assistance for food and shelter. ...” “I’m sorry, we can’t provide those services right now. The people demanded lower taxes.” “That’s your job!“ “Well, we need money to provide those things.” “Make it work with what you have. It’s your job.” “I’m sorry. If there‘s nothing more, I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”

Too bad I’m not a cartoonist. If I were, I think, my point wouldn’t seem like a rant.

Chargers that comply to standards are most likely not the problem here.
Some years ago cheap china chargers caught fire when charging iPhones,
and somehow people thought that was Apple's fault.
Actually, there were companies selling iPhones who made a bit of extra money by swapping the Apple chargers in the box with a cheap and dangerous fake charger, and then selling the original Apple chargers for good money. So iPhones did catch fire when they were used with the charger _in the original, resealed box_. Which was not an Apple charger.

It's not free, you still pay for not getting a charger. If you buy a separate one, you now pay double, as the prices of iPhones have not been lowered by the amount of the charger. It's amazing that a lot of people actually fall for Apple's PR excuse to exclude chargers, I have to admit it was brilliant marketing.
The iPhone is going to go up by the price of chanrger.

I agree with this. I bought an Apple Watch over the weekend and walking out the door I remembered it doesn’t include a charger. So I had to spend 30 minutes trying to figure out what type of charger it needs since the box doesn’t specify what type of cable is included. Absolute ********

so now apple wants all these customers to be using fake knock off chargers for their devices bc they refuse to supply one?

The point of not including earphones or a charger is that most people already have both, not that it's a gold mine to Apple to omit them.

And including AirPods would be insane. How about a free iPad too?
Costs them next to nothing to include them. Lets not talk about the ridiculous environmental claims as the reason for their exclusion this year. Apple couldn’t care less about the environment, it’s all public relations.

Yes! iPad for free would be good. I would say given current prices that would be a reasonable thing to include for a Mac purchase more than iPhones...

However given the price of iPhones in reality the base set of AirPods would not be too much of an ask. The iPhone Pro’s are overpriced and Apple make a large markup on them.

You can look at it however you choose, but their point was the law can’t force Apple to include the charger and keep the same price.
