Very true.
So you ought to use the other options, right?
Lightning wired headphone or adapter or a different phone/audioplayer.

A different phone. A phone with 3.5mm or perhaps I will use my iPhone 6S an SE until it dies.

Apple removed a essential port and charging you 10 dollars for an adaptor. And people thanking Apple for being generous? Wow

So if they fall out on public transport you're going to be crawling around on the floor after them, and if you do find them, you probably don't want to put them back in your ears.

If they're light and fit snug, there's no reason for them to fall out. The top reason why earphones fall out is because the cord was tugged or even just moved at an odd angle. The weight of the wire alone could pull them out.

I wear ear plugs for work and they never fall out because once they're in, there's nothing pulling them out.

I like everything about the new headphones except the ridiculous hideous look. It easily joins this group, as hideous wtf Apple designs:

Yahoo is calling it a "Dongle" headline reads:

Apple thinks it can pacify headphone jack loyalists with this $9 dongle

Gizmodo is calling it a "Dongle" Headline reads:

Apple's Lightning Headphone Dongle Is Surprisingly Cheap

And they are both wrong.
Perhaps too lazy to use the correct term?
One would think a tech site would know better.
We are speaking of a classic example of an "adapter"
It's not important, just surprising to see widely discussed item misnamed.
And in 30 years i have never heard an adapter referred to as a dongle,
except for the last couple of weeks relating to the new phone.

adapter (also adaptor)
noun
a device for connecting pieces of equipment that cannot be connected directly.

dongle
noun
Computing
a small device able to be connected to and used with a computer, especially to allow access to wireless broadband or use of protected software.

wikipedia:
"A dongle is a small piece of hardware that connects to another device to provide it with additional functionality. In relation to computing, the term is primarily associated with hardware providing a copy protection mechanism for commercial software—in which the dongle must be attached to the system that the software is installed on in order for it to function.

The term "dongle" is also associated with similar devices meant to provide additional forms of wireless connectivity to devices (such as Wi-Fi or Bluetooth support), often over USB connections, as well as small form factor digital media players (such as Amazon Fire TV Stick, Chromecast, and Roku Streaming Stick) and personal computers (such as Chromebit and Intel Compute Stick) meant to plug directly into an HDMI input on a television."

I guess I have a one of a kind ear shape the EarPods are the only earphones that stay in my ears and I can wear all day I even sometimes fall asleep with them in and they're still there in the morning even with the cord the AirPods are essentially the same just no cord, you can bet I'm getting these

That's good!
Everybody must find solutions to new problems as they present themselves. That's normal, especially in the tech world where nothing is forever.

Apple removed a essential port and charging you 10 dollars for an adaptor.

Well, you have been saying that the port is essential, but wouldn't you agree that is is not essential for everybody?
Probably essential for some but completely unused by many others.
The adapter is free with the phone and allows backward compatibility.
Until then: I hope your 6S and SE last for a many a year!
All the best.
[doublepost=1473293589][/doublepost]Siri control?
Hopefully the next version (or software update?) of these airpods will allow taps on the pod to control the music playing instead of siri?
I don't look forward to sitting in a metro, loudly commanding siri to "play next track" or "decrease volume".

An almost dystopian vision of the future: multiple people at checkout lines, looking into the distance or at their feet, chanting "play track from beginning", "increase volume":)

5 hours and it looks like they are going fall out of your ears. 160 bucks..........Sounds about right........

Based on the comments and complaints I assume most people aren't familiar with the average price and battery life for this type of product is.

5 hours of battery life and $149-$159 or whatever it is, is actually very very good.

Samsungs versions cost $199 with 1.5-2 hours of battery life

Bragi Dash are $300 with 3 hours of battery life

Bragi Dash don't look like a cigarette hanging out of my ear.

5 hours is useless, I work 9 hours and need 12 hours per day...... I'd rather the 3.5mm jack, I don't need stereo speakers built into the phone, I don't even need one speaker, they're small and crap and I only ever have my phone in vibrate... I never use the built in speakers.

:p Looks like iPhone 6s is the answer to all your problems. haha
[doublepost=1473296432][/doublepost]
That adapter looked so clumsy, 5 hours not enough, also this things looked like they so can easily get lost.
most completely wireless earbuds look as if they can get lost easily... just like any small objects around the house. i.e.: lego pieces, puzzle pieces, jewelry, etc... its an on going issue with small objects since the beginning of man kind.

Anyone laughing at the price needs to take into account similar products. Note that I'm not just meaning wireless headphones. I'm meaning completely wireless headphones. Bragi, iconx, and so forth. And also judge battery life based on that as well.

I adjust the volume, advance, and use pause very often. If these controls need to be done at the phone or by Siri then these wireless pods won't meet my needs and I'll need to stick with the wire. It doesn't make it a bad product, they're just impractical for my use.

Bragi Dash don't look like a cigarette hanging out of my ear.

Bragi Dash also look like almost $150 more and a couple of hours less battery time.

Unless you're talking about the newest unreleased versions then people should really consider those especially at the pre purchase $119 price tag.

I've heard they have bluetooth issues though.

That word. You keep using it, but I don't think you know what it means.

I don't know if a port that used by million of people everyday is not essential. Then what is?

3.5mm is not just used by headphone or audio devices. Several other things using 3.5mm jack.

The audio quality will be better on these, most likely. I'm looking at the powerbeats 3 now. It amazes me the difference between acceptable and "laughable", does everyone only speak in extremes now? They last longer than every competing product on the market.

it is a 6 hour flight from the east coast to the west coast.... yes 5 hours is laughable.

Floppy disk was used by everybody. CD-ROM was used by everybody.

Also, I don't know if it escaped your notice - it's been mentioned one or two times - there. is. an. adapter. in. the. box.

For clarity the Bluetooth issues with the Dash are that the phones needs to be in a proximity to the headphones that some people don't find acceptable. I use mine in my right front pocket with no issues indoors, at the mall or outside. I haven't been to any wide open spaces - but I generally don't go to wide open spaces. There has been significant improvement in the connection (much to my surprise) since the pre-release versions and first Kickstarter units.

I think the new Bragi The Headphones which smash the Apple AirPods in terms of fit, comfort and usage apart from the switching between devices.

I don't know if a port that used by million of people everyday is not essential. Then what is?

Essential would imply all people need the item. I have never used the headphone jack on my iPhone 6S, 6, 5S or 4S.

Popular? common? widespread?
Essential means "a thing that is absolutely necessary"
Which a headphone jack may be for many people,
but certainly is not for many other people.

I do hope you can play/pause with some sort of tap as well. Can't find anything about that on the site so far. Using earphones often means you don't want to bother people around you. Activating Siri and asking to pause the music would be annoying. And I don't want to take them out (and leave them where?) every time I need playback to pause for a minute.
According to this hands-on review from the demo area you can "press to pause":

Floppy disk was used by everybody. CD-ROM was used by everybody.

They were and Apple took them away FAR too soon. Apple removed the floppy when I just started to use them, sure I hated the unstable things yet they were cheap. Of course if I could have afforded an Apple back then that may have not been an issue. CD-DVD was a bit too early as well, however I've not even needed to use one in three years.

Things do change, they would be waiting forever for everyone to be ready.
