Bull ****.

First of all: it is crappy design. Look at that two thing sticks out.

Second: If I go to a field trip, 5 hours play back is too short. I still remember people mocking Samsung when they released their Bluetooth headphone.

You do realize that the case you will carry them contains a battery and also charges them right? Pop them out of your ears after 5 hours and charge them for 15 whole minutes for another 3 hours of listening.

Definitely will be buying this, I use my headphones a lot and constantly they breakdown down because of wire damage
I suppose it makes sense for you then. I was wondering how many charges you can get out of one of these before the battery dies. That's the issue I'm having with my Bluetooth speakers. I don't use my Bluetooth headphones enough to have worn them out yet.

I've got wired earphones over 15 years old. I've only destroyed a few cheap ones.

courage costs 159 dollars

what a joke

Ummmm...they talked about having the courage to remove the 3.5mm jack. And that won't cost the buyer anything...since Lightning EarPods are included for free in the box. The $159 AirPods will work with any device running iOS 10 WatchOS 3, or macOS Sierra.

"The earphones require Apple devices running iOS 10, watchOS 3 or macOS Sierra."

The macOS Sierra part kind of implies that it works with at least some existing Macs, especially since no new Macs were announced.

Did Apple mention that it only works with iPhone 7?

...or just get a new 32GB 6S at $549 and listen to music for the duration of the phone's battery life. That's 40 hours compared to a measly 5.

It costs convenience. The Apple headphones are hardly HiFi quality headphones.

Like typical apple accessories, these look like junk. Probably sound worse.
Typical apple accessories are definitely not junk. I would imagine they sound great with ACC audio claims but with the glossy plastic I'll be looking at the new beats version instead.

The earphones won't fall out, they are the same build as the regular earbuds...which fit very snuggly in my ears...I understand that all ears are unique though and maybe you have little malformed baby ears or giant mutated ears...these fit really well for the ears in between...5 hours playback with the ability to power up for another 3 hours via 15 minutes in the charge case is VERY good...I have always loved the earbuds so will purchase these as soon as they are available...the price is quite reasonable in my opinion!

I gotta say, these caught my attention more than anything else so far. I'm a little disappointed at the 5 hours of battery life, but the battery case was a great idea.

What? 5h is pretty impressive. The ones that Samsung released offer only 1,5h.

All I can say is I so want a pair of these! I think there is some super ingenious stuff here and I have no problem wearing the current EarPods, so should be just great. I was thinking these would be more in line with other wireless options of $199 so I am thrilled by the price!

Actually 5 hour run time for these small air pods is quite good compared to the competition who often manage to get 3-4 hours. Or longer but with a much bulkier design. I mainly like them because I can just use one and not have the other earbud dangling by a wire. The downside is that you have no wire to dangle it from if you need to take it out for some or other reason, so easy to drop it or loose it.

Yeah and? Ok. Pay hundreds for old tech? Or you can buy the 7 or 7 Plus and use the included Lightning to 3.5mm adapter and listen for the 40 hours as well with wires. Or listen for 24 hours with the AirPods and no wires? Or buy a Mophie Case...or Anker battery...etc. etc. etc. etc...blah blah blah...

I'm sure there will be an accessory to attach them. Having them simply free from each other may lead to a loss of an airpod. Design is an odd choice. Having one bluetooth headset is out of fashion, now it's like having 2 of them. Price is a bit steep, $99 would have been better. I like the charging case though.

This is exactly why they will fall out. I have regular sized ears, fyi, it's quite a bit more nuanced than just the size.

I see that as the standard for wired bluetooth not completely wireless bluetooth earbuds.

These really aren't bad for the price and features assuming you're an iphone user.

Erm, completely wireless should actually have a lower time since the wires tend to go to the battery somewhere along the cord.

Im pretty sure Bluetooth headphones have been around for a while anyway .When will Apple do audio properly , wired or wireless ??

I've been reading up on Beats' announcement and those models include the W1 chip and Class 1 Bluetooth, separately. That tells me that W1 is not actually Bluetooth, but also tells me that the AirPods are likely Bluetooth compatible as well.

The only info I've collected is that W1 is AAC audio - it's probably a hardware compression method over Bluetooth. Apple has AirPlay, which is certainly audio done properly...and CarPlay is far better than a 3.5mm jack too.

Would you be able to listen just using one of the airpods in your ear? I often listen whilst in the car using just one earpiece so I can still hear the traffic.

I know I can use Bluetooth through the car speakers, but often the rest of the family are listening to something else while I listen to my iPhone through my headphones.

5 hours is useless, I work 9 hours and need 12 hours per day...... I'd rather the 3.5mm jack, I don't need stereo speakers built into the phone, I don't even need one speaker, they're small and crap and I only ever have my phone in vibrate... I never use the built in speakers.

i totally agree... 5 hours is laughable. i will stick to my powerbeats 2 wireless...at least they get 6 hours. will wait for the airpods 2
