I'm an airhead, er, Airpod guru.

5 hours is fine with me. I don't normally listen music using earphones 24 hours non stop. When the battery run out, little case have 24 hurs of charging capacity. Unless I am in the Amazon forest, that's ok with me.
Good luck on a long haul flight.

Bought jaybird freedoms with my 7 plus. So easy to connect / pair, better sound profiles, fit options and the battery clip that charges while I use them, I've never had them drain to the point that I couldn't get to a charger (and I use them daily for 8+ hours with my old MacBook / phone for work). I'll pass on earrings ... errr... Airpods lol

No doubt the sound will be better than Apple's, but they are still connected by wires. I think the whole point of these apple wireless headphones is no wires at all. That's what is so appealing about them along with the ease of connectivity that comes with being an Apple product.

Buy your damned AirPods at an Apple retail store on a day when they aren't too busy. Buy them with at least 90 minutes left before the store closes. Walk down to Starbucks. Try them. (Don't let them fall into your latté because they will fall out). Then walk back and return them and go home -- having satisfied your curiosity.
They won't.

I think Apple is embarrassed that Bragi has better looking Bluetooth earbuds.

Enjoy this rubbish:

The same cannot be said about Dash's glitchy Bluetooth radio. Bluetooth range was also an issue during my testing. On the iPhone, music streaming from my iPhone 6s Plus cut out intermittently if I moved my head. Even moving the iPhone from my left to my right pocket could cause crackling or make the audio cut out.

Call quality was a mixed bag, and I found the microphone cutting in and out during my calls. I wasn't sure if the microphone didn't make proper contact for bone conduction to work properly, or if Dash wasn't able to isolate my voice from the wind or background noise when using Dash as a wireless headset out on the busy streets of San Francisco. On a few occasions, I noticed that if a call came through while I was listening to music, playback didn't resume automatically after the call completed.

Microsoft dropped quite a bomb in their lap with this release 24 hours before theirs. Whatever Apple talks about will look like a response to ...all that. VR headsets and giant touchscreen workstations, vs... a little touch sensitive control strip and some wireless headphones.... man they better have some big news, or this little stuff is going to look like they've been twiddling their thumbs this whole time.

I hope Apple DOES look like they've been twiddling their thumbs tomorrow!

"put simply the best <insert Apple product name> we've ever made"
"remarkable"
"we put so much effort into making the best products for our customers"

All the while Jony Ive spends 2 seconds to cut the cords off 3-5yr old headphones as a base design for AirPod's and the rest of team works feaverishly to make it a reality. Put simply Jony is quite happy making an asininely expensive ridiculous Christmas tree as a one off?!

Goddam ... executives, all except Mansfield, Schiller (actually writes his own keynotes, and balls to take a stab at former colleagues, Apple forefather: The Woz), maybe 1 other .... are ALL too highly paid!

Nobody has the balls, the drive the boldness to REALLY BE CRAZY anymore their playing it FAR too SAFE!
YES I need a computer: MBP, SurfacePro 4 or Mac Pro this Christmas
Yes I'm fixing my IP6S for my son and upgrading to the iP7
Yes I may just get the NikeWatch2
But I'll be more than content getting Jabra Sport Pulse/Elites due to today's delay.

Good luck on a long haul flight.

Like I said, I don't keep my music on my ears non stop for teens of hours without some sort of break. And as you may be aware, 15 min break are enough to give you several hours more of charge. It could be the time when you go to restroom or you chat a bit to your companion or anything really. 15 minutes in the little case gives you 3 more hours of music listening. But hey, it would be a dull world of people didn't find something to moan about, right?

I'll say it again ... totally botched the removal of the headphone jack. Essential transition technology should have been ready day one, not a month and half later, and now with no ETA at all ... really inexcusable, especially considering how much time they've known this was going to happen. Probably won't affect sales of the iPhone 7 substantially, but really poor form considering all the other compromises customers who made use of the headphone jack have made since upgrading to the iPhone 7.

AirPods are hardly an essential transition technology. There are and were countless Bluetooth enabled headphones available at the time of the iPhone 7 unveiling. AirPods are simply an enhanced version of technology that has been around for a while.

The posts in this thread are just ridiculous.

Obviously they are manufacturing/quality control issues which are the only reason Apple ever delays a product until the yields are acceptable.

Really? Can you post a credible source or citation how you came to this conclusion?

In my specific case, I'm good with the single wire. It gives me longer un-interrupted listening and isn't a nuisance so I'm ok with that. Plus no fear of losing one while I'm out and about. To each their own, in my application I'm happy though :)

Tim Crook is reckless no desktops, delays - when does this guy work ?

This is the most obtuse and ignorant statement in the 13 pages of this thread I have read. You literally know nothing and it blatantly shows in your post.

So Tim Cook waited until the eleventh hour - conveniently AFTER he had his little Q&A with the shareholders to announce that these were not coming after all...

Bravo Apple! Bravo!
