So Tim Cook waited until the eleventh hour - conveniently AFTER he had his little Q&A with the shareholders to announce that these were not coming after all...

Bravo Apple! Bravo!
That's what is bothering me. Why wouldn't they come right out and announce it then instead of quietly making a comment to a website?

Last I checked it still said late October on Apple's AirPod page.

The Emperor (Sir Jony Ive) is wearing no clothes. I have never been able to keep Apple EarPods to stay in my ear for more than 5 seconds before they "roll out" and onto the floor.

I highly recommend you make sure your $29 pair of wired Apple EarPods don't fallout (over and over) before you spend $159 on "AirPods" (essentially the same product with the same problem). Believe me.. I have bought many expensive wired ear buds that don't fit, sound bad, or are painful. It CAN happen to you.

Buy your damned AirPods at an Apple retail store on a day when they aren't too busy. Buy them with at least 90 minutes left before the store closes. Walk down to Starbucks. Try them. (Don't let them fall into your latté because they will fall out). Then walk back and return them and go home -- having satisfied your curiosity.

Actually, save yourself some time. Before checking out with your AirPods, try the incredible Bowers & Wilkins P5 wireless headphones. They are soft and fit over your ears to isolate you from the noise of the other idiots picking up and reinserting their Ive pods all day long. Try the wired P5's at the Apple store, go home with the Wireless model. You bought a $940 iPhone 7 plus right? Indulge in the $299 wireless P5.
Amazon also offered refurbished P5's. I've been tempted but I detest BT audio cutoffs. Even once is too much.

Yeah the website still says late October with less than 12 hours until the keynote. If details on the the site doesn't change over the next few hours, it will be very interesting to hear what they say at the keynote

You're right. Your turn, let's see how you do with a multi-billion dollar business. I'm sure you will "turn it around".

When Steve Jobs was around he always set a date and he delivered with no problems none of pushing dates back at all what was final was final and that was it

Steve jobs worked with Tim cook and he knew how he worked and how he did things so Tim Cook should be repeating what Steve job has done

I didn't clearly state that they should have announced it during the financial quarter conference call-just for future context that is what I meant when I said for them to announce it. To let it slip the day after sounds like intended neglect to stock holders.

And while we're on it, several members constantly rant that the CEO's job is to make money for the investors not make products for consumers... am I the only one to see the bull crap line that is... If Tim wants to make money for the investors he should be leading his teams to make great products for the consumers-they are not mutually exclusive-they really are in direct correlation with each other.

It isn't a bad news, but they made a mistake last month during the event.
Instead of promising an October delivery date they should have said "later this fall" keeping expectations low.
Of course they needed to announce AirPods alongside the iPhone since they ditched the 3.5'' jack so they couldn't wait for the October event, but now they have a lot of people complaining about the delivery

Tim Cook is a man that cannot deliver very poor business sense

Surely not as poorly as this statement is written. Poor business sense? Selling and distributing millions of iPhones/other Apple products world wide and managing a billion dollar Company, while conducting relations with a myriad of electronic manufacturers depicts "Poor business sense."?

Please stop spreading nonsense. Your ignorance is showing.

They won't.

Enjoy this rubbish:

The same cannot be said about Dash's glitchy Bluetooth radio. Bluetooth range was also an issue during my testing. On the iPhone, music streaming from my iPhone 6s Plus cut out intermittently if I moved my head. Even moving the iPhone from my left to my right pocket could cause crackling or make the audio cut out.

Call quality was a mixed bag, and I found the microphone cutting in and out during my calls. I wasn't sure if the microphone didn't make proper contact for bone conduction to work properly, or if Dash wasn't able to isolate my voice from the wind or background noise when using Dash as a wireless headset out on the busy streets of San Francisco. On a few occasions, I noticed that if a call came through while I was listening to music, playback didn't resume automatically after the call completed.

It's not without its flaws but the company had been very good with constant firmware updates. With the updates, it's come a long way, definitely not the buggy product that I initially received. Bluetooth doesn't cut out for me anymore, everything works as expected for me now. And the audio quality is definitely much better than apple's standard headphones (which I'm assuming is the same quality that AirPods will have based on early reviews). The only thing that can't be fixed is a longer battery life. For that I'll be ordering the AirPods for regular use but keeping my Bragi Dash for gym. (Having said that they'll be releasing The Headphone which is basically the Dash without the bells and whistles, tradeoff being longer battery life).

Can't say I am surprised. All though I wonder what they could be changing. Everyone who was given the AirPods along with the review unit iPhone 7's seemed to be very impressed by them.

Probably had staff testing them in the field, and someone's ear exploded while jogging. So they need to reevaluate their design. :p

Microsoft didn't drop anything, their stuff still runs on the same crappy operating system. Hardware doesn't mean crap, if software is garbage.

The ignorance is outstanding. W10 is on par with anything Apple has released in the past 4 years. It is fast and efficient, something Apple hasn't been post Mavericks.

To say W10 is crap is childish. The only problems with W10 are the idiots begind the keyboard. Same with OSX.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a little disappointed by this news. I really wanted to give them a try. Looks like I'll have to wait a little longer.

For a device of that size, it's already pretty darn impressive. How many people are going to be wearing it for 5 hours straight?

Five hours is impressive and the quick charge feature is convenient too. I believe these will do well when released.

We don't really know what the issue is. I have trekked around Google and Apple are giving nothing away so it could be a hardware issue or just supply problems. There is a lot of speculation but if its supply problems due to issues with third party manufacturers, its better to delay for a few weeks to ensure ample stock for the holiday season than roll products out in very limited quantities.
Apple has already received enough flack because of lack of available product for the phones and watches so this may be a decision influenced by what we have seen over the last few weeks.

Well stated.

Aren't you going to provide us a link to your exceptionally thorough objective test results proving their poor sound quality?
Based on your personal experience or just speculating?
I assume this is based on your extensive experience listening to them...

No. Based on various medias reporting on them and Apple itself that indicates that while the wireless technology aspect of the Airpods is brand new, the acoustic technology is still based on the original Earpods. And the original Earpods are anything but premium in sound quality ( which is not criticism of them by the way. Apple provides basic sounding earphones with the iPhones to get you started, then it's up to you to go shopping for better sounding headphones )
So yes, they're premium in wireless technology ( and therefore pricing), but basic in sound quality.

I love the look, shape of these.

Do they have noise cancelling for listening as well as speaking? Can you adjust volume and skip tracks without activating Siri on the headphones them selves? There is no way I am talking into my headphones in public every five minutes.
