If you go to the apple site now there is a message "we've got something special for you and we can't wait for you to see it" normally this is where you would find the headphones including the airpods to purchase and now all that is there is this message... perhaps this story was jibberish.... seems odd to have that there today prior to the keynote if they weren't releasing them... ???

My question/comment. They have been working on the AirPods for how long now and suddenly an announcement near the end of October that they will be delayed? Hhmm.

Sounds to me like whatever the delay is for will not be right around the corner to fix.

They look like cigarettes, maybe the ends started to smoke after long listening sessions. :)

HOWEVER, the Apple accessories site one cannot even access with a statement saying a surprise is in store for us so who knows.

I hope that is true because I am now annoyed last minute reports are coming in that they are delayed on the day of the keynote.

But if they fall out you would know it and technically people shouldn't listen to music when riding due to safety but that's something different

Shame they don't fit in your ours but for me it fits fine. Guess everybody's is different
FWIW, it was the OP that mentioned wanting these because they were tired of getting wires tangled when riding. Also, FWIW, riding isn't a smooth activity. You're pedaling, moving, absorbing shocks, turning your head to watch for traffic, sweating, getting a good stream of air past your head, etc. Even if earpods work OK for you, they are notoriously bad [edit: for working out] in general and as evidence, note the whole industry that has tried to crack that nut. Personally, the only solution I have found are over the ear head phones. And when when you do realize one has fallen out, you have to stop, swing around, and hope you find it. Which in itself is not always the safest thing you need to do if you do road riding.
TL;DR I can't imagine a worse planned usage for airpods than for use when riding with any sort of working out coming in a close second. Sitting at your desk or walking they may be great.

"incredible" one of those marketing words i cant here anymore

exactly, my first thought was a lame presidential type campaign pivot.

The question wasn't about the demand or hype - it was a question about the reason for the delay!

I still haven't made up my mind on these. I have no issue with the design. The battery time probably is ok for 98% of my usage scenarios, I'm just worried about things like fishing for them in my pockets or give them the accidental laundry treatment because of forgetting them (anyone need a list of (non-)laundry surviving USB sticks?? :) ).

why would you not store them in their case when not in use? Harder to lose them

The article on the OP states Apple told TechCrunch? Since when does Apple say anything to anyone without a formal announcement first?

HHHMMMMM.

Harder yes, but I have the gear icon X earbuds and the case is so small it could easily get lost.

how has the response been incredible when no one has used them yet.

Lol, and they have not even been available for preorder.

All you need is some AirPod 'croakies' when you're doing strenuous activity... Otherwise I don't think most people will have an issue hanging onto them any more than they do hanging onto their keys, glasses, etc. I mean, they come with a nice case that fits in any pocket and keeps them charged. Other than sound quality, concerning which the jury is still out, I am very excited about this product.

I don't know if I want the Airpods now. If there's something's wrong with it.

Return them if that is the case if you aren't satisfied.

I am not waiting to buy them, the pencil was impossible and there are lots more folks with iPhones that are more compatible then just what the pencil could be used for.

I would rather they wait and get it right than pull a "Samsung" and ship exploding AirPods.

That just means they didn't update the website. We're not getting these Airpods today.

Seems like a BS story. Apple.com still says late October. The quote had no context. Maybe they could have shipped in September, but wanted them to be ready so they needed more time. I am anxiously waiting to hear more at today's event!

When Apple debuted its AirPods in September, the company said the wireless earbuds would launch in late October. Now that it's late October, people have been wondering if a release is imminent, but as it turns out, the AirPods are delayed.

Apple today told TechCrunch that it needs "a little more time" before the AirPods are ready for a public release, without specifying the reason behind the delay.

Apple did not provide TechCrunch with updated launch information, so it is no longer clear when the AirPods will be available for purchase.

AirPods are Apple's premium headphone solution for the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus, which do not include a headphone jack. AirPods, powered by Bluetooth and an Apple-designed W1 chip, are entirely wireless with no cords between them.

They include advanced features like infrared sensors to detect when they're in the ear, beam forming microphones to reduce external noise, and accelerometers to respond to touch gestures.

AirPods have been in the hands of reviewers since September and have garnered largely positive reviews for the fit, the features, the simple setup, and the easy recharging.

They are delaying the Airpods so they can add some straps to all of these models! Because regardless of what they said they know it's going to be a headache situation. Losing them is going to be the #1 issue! Watch this!

How is that any different from the #1 issue with any earbuds being lost?

Water is wet! More at ten, stay tuned!
