I personally haven't tried any Sennheisers before, I primarily use B&O, and although I cannot make a comparison at all with those, I can certainly say, They are far better sounding than any wireless earbuds ranging from $150-$250 I've used over the last year. They feel incredible, I've never had an issue with them falling out of my ears, or at least sliding out. My favorite part is turning them on, Apple did a beautiful job of creating a new start-up tune, sounds like a sweet beautiful sympathy orchestra warming up for a second.

Cool, good to hear that audio quality is tip top. Maybe I'll spring for a pair at some point. Or buy a used pair, lol.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that people think that they are ugly. Competitors wireless earphones aren't nearly as goofy looking.

AirPods are hardly an essential transition technology. There are and were countless Bluetooth enabled headphones available at the time of the iPhone 7 unveiling. AirPods are simply an enhanced version of technology that has been around for a while.

And it's that enhanced technology that makes an iPhone without a headphone jack appealing to someone who has been using wired headphones, because they've tried existing Bluetooth headphones and found them too difficult to pair and use, too limited battery life, too cumbersome, and too poor performance.

So yes, all the W1 chipped headphones are essential, and of the four announced over a month and a half ago, only one is currently available -- the biggest, heaviest, least portable and most expensive, not to mention requiring a separate micro-USB cable to charge them.

If you go to the apple site now there is a message "we've got something special for you and we can't wait for you to see it" normally this is where you would find the headphones including the airpods to purchase and now all that is there is this message... perhaps this story was jibberish.... seems odd to have that there today prior to the keynote if they weren't releasing them... ???

To be fair, that is what happens when you currently attempt to buy anything at Apple's store homepage. I clicked on the 'Buy' link for both the iPhone and Macbook, and got the same 'We've got something special in store for you' message for each one.

Perhaps it has something to do with the Bluetooth problems like those found with connecting and losing connectivity in cars. Apple may have set up bluetooth to work efficiently with AirPods but in turn affected the connectivity to cars so now they have to go back and ensure that there is reliability to connect to all bluetooth devices?

I will be at an Apple Store at 1:00pm est today and I will be buying whatever is being released today, if anything.

Powerbeats 3, Beats X, Airpods or whatever the surprise is. The store is only 15 minutes away so it ain't like I am wasting a long drive. If I get shut out, oh well. There are always pretty girls to check out at Apple stores. :)

So with this news, how many will just go by Bose and pay the extra $100 for noise cancellation...

I still don't have any reason to trust the Techcrunch article. 'An Apple spokesperson' singled out one unaffiliated website, as opposed to a credible news outlet, to announce something that could potentially hit the stock price? Doubtful. Is Apple known to use a blogger site to announce things like this? They may have in the past, it's just that I don't recall when.

Unless someone can point me to a quote from a credible direct resource from Apple? They haven't commented that it isn't true I know, but that doesn't surprise me at all.

I bet that took courage....

I totally agree, that isn't Apple's way of doing things. They don't say anything to anyone without an official announcement first.

Just bought these and had them for a week. They are amazing. Noise cancellation works well, battery life is ok at around 9-10 hrs, and they are comfortable to wear even with the collar which btw is so light, you forget it is even there. Bose has also nailed multiple device connectivity as well auto connecting to all devices.

I do not think you can demo in ear products, only headphones. Risk of infection with in ear trial, I do not know any store that has in ear products for demo.

I totally agree, that isn't Apple's way of doing things. They don't say anything to anyone without an official announcement first.

They leak information they want getting out all the time to select online publications. Sometimes they provide a quote, sometimes they just give a general tip off to dampen unreasonable expectations that may hurt their stock price when speculated thing doesn't happen.

I don't think Apple ever puts out official press releases about this stuff. They do it unofficially through sources we all know to have good track records, which is why the techcrunch piece has been accepted as bible. Matthew Panzarino has very good contacts within Apple, they even helped him write his iPhone depth of field photography review with information about the underlying technology used.

I don't really see that considering projected availability has been stated all along as end of October. This is way too high profile to leak something like a delay out so close to release and with an announcement coming today anyway.

I'm guessing Apple didn't want to put a dampener on the event today with bad news, so they used an unofficial channel to bury the bad news a day earlier. They want today to be a feel good day about new products.

They have already put a damper on it if it is true. Minus one product release that many people were looking forward to.

Yes but it is yesterday's news now. It's been covered by the media. They want any news coverage they get today to be focused mainly on the new stuff they are ready to sell to us.

Amen

Hopefully they at least give an update when it's ready

I'm thinking they don't want to talk about it today, which is why they leaked it yesterday. They probably won't want to make any vague commitments to a new date while they sort out whatever problems they feel they need to address first.

"incredible" one of those marketing words i cant here anymore

I absolutely detest corporate market speak like that. Take the line:

"The early response to AirPods has been incredible."

from the statement:

"The early response to AirPods has been incredible. We don't believe in shipping a product before it's ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers"

There's no need for it to be in there, it serves no purpose and adds no meaning or value to the overall statement
