That's too bad. I was expecting they'd go on sale tomorrow after the keynote.

That's likely what would have happened at the Keynote tomorrow. Pending this delay, perhaps Apple was aware of the delay long before one day before the Mac Keynote.

I'll say it again ... totally botched the removal of the headphone jack. Essential transition technology should have been ready day one, not a month and half later, and now with no ETA at all ... really inexcusable, especially considering how much time they've known this was going to happen. Probably won't affect sales of the iPhone 7 substantially, but really poor form considering all the other compromises customers who made use of the headphone jack have made since upgrading to the iPhone 7.

I think we are taking comments from a third rate website saying they have the inside track.....a wee bit too seriously. Apple's site still shows late Oct. Apple would have either done that change on the site already or a day ago...

You didn't read the article, did you?

"Apple today told TechCrunch that it needs 'a little more time' before the AirPods are ready for a public release, without specifying the reason behind the delay"

In the future news: Tim Cook stated, "I want to apologize to my apple friends and board members...we lost them all. I'm sure if you can wait another year, we'll try and see if we can build another one with GPS sensor...so that way it will cause an alarm sound if it's gone missing."

My guess is they aren't hitting internal battery-life targets.
I doubt that, most likely it is a production issue at this point. They probably just want to avoid another Apple Pencil "launch" where 500 people get units day one and their production is so far behind they are constantly on a "ships in 2 months" schedule.

It's good to perfect them before shipping, but aren't they the piece de resistance of the iPhone 7? Aren't they supposed to be so insanely great that they make everyone forget the loss of the audio jack?

The whole iPhone 7 launch seems like a failure of time management. The camera's portrait software wasn't ready despite being the premier camera feature. The Airpods are delayed despite being the salve for those who pine for an audio jack. The phone missed the two year rhythm of fresh designs.

Could it be that the mythical glass slab iPhone almost made production this year but delays forced Apple to rush the current design to market? Yet that wouldn't explain why the cam software and Airpods were AWOL at launch. It can't be mere incompetence, can it?

Wow, this delay makes me glad I got impatient and just bought Bose Soundlink AE2 cans.

These are much comfier than earbuds and sound amazing. They're less portable than AirPods, but most of my listening is in places where I can bring the larger headphones. I can always keep my wired earpods in my pocket if I really think I'm going to need them.

Not to worry - just a small air-bubble in the pipeline of amazing products marching their way to the market from Cupertino.

"The early response to AirPods has been incredible"

Yeah, incredibly bad. These things look awful. Who wants little white sticks popping out of your ears? So odd...

I don't get why people make jokes or stupid comments about the AirPods and losing them.... there are MANY headphones now like this where there is ZERO wires yet they don't get any stick or jokes thrown at them...

People like to bitch cause its Apple. So annoying and pathetic.

Exactly. And you'd have to be pretty thick if you didn't realise one fell out.

If EarPods don't fall out, AirPods definitely won't fall out as there's no wire pulling on them.

I've been rocking the AirPods for over a month now, and I can surely say that they will be worth the wait, regardless of how long the delay will be, stay happy and positive people! They are right around the corner!

In your view how does sound quality compare to a nice pair of corded Sennheisers? Not a $500 pair, that's not a fair comparison, but something in the $200 price range? Or any high quality corded cans that you may have tried?

Bummer. Really looking forward to these. Was in the market for a new pair of headphones. Hopefully the delay won't be too long.

I miss the old Apple, when everything just worked better and more efficient. Desire to make products work and work well is not same by far.

I personally haven't tried any Sennheisers before, I primarily use B&O, and although I cannot make a comparison at all with those, I can certainly say, They are far better sounding than any wireless earbuds ranging from $150-$250 I've used over the last year. They feel incredible, I've never had an issue with them falling out of my ears, or at least sliding out. My favorite part is turning them on, Apple did a beautiful job of creating a new start-up tune, sounds like a sweet beautiful sympathy orchestra warming up for a second.
