I'm gutted. I'd told myself I had to wait before buying any more Mac's until Leopard was released. I certainly don't want to wait until October :( That means buying more Tiger and adding to my already-long list of upgrades in the Autumn.

Oh well, I'm sure it's for the best. Now I either need to buy me a MBP or find another (compelling) reason to wait :D

Who thinks upgraded mac pros and iLife 07 and iWork 07 will be released by WWDC?

Why new mac pros? They just released an 8-core version.

and also i doubt they will release a new iLife or iWork since many of the features require core animation. They will be released with leopard in october but obviously not under the name " '07 " since it will almost be over by then.

Who thinks upgraded mac pros and iLife 07 and iWork 07 will be released by WWDC?

Change 07s to Leopard (iLife/iWork Leopard) and WWDC to October alongside Leopard and i'll think so.

I don't see Mac Pro updates till MacWorld or later....just me.

This makes me feel better about buying my MBP two weeks ago... but it still sucks for those who were waiting for Leopard. I personally think the iPhone is an overpriced waste of time for Apple... but that is, of course, just my opinion.

Perhaps I'm in a bad mood from a long day at a lousy job and a long walk home in hideously cold blowing rain, but bull-mother$#*&ing-$&*%. It was like a week ago that they reiterated SPRING. If i saw ol' steve right now i'd give him the ol' Naomi Campbell slap-around with a diamond studded iphone.

I couldn't care less about the iphone, i'd rather have a phone that's good at being a phone, an mp3 player that's good at being an mp3 player, and if it's a 'computer' but can't run photoshop it's useless to me.

I understand that the ipod probably saved apple, but for the sake of all that is holy, a 4 month delay to make a goddamn phone?? No hardware updates to speak of in months, nothing for the average desktop user, nothing i can recommend to 90% of friends and family looking as a new computer because they aren't rich and know they can get a nice setup from dell for $600.

Apple, if you're giving up on computers, just do it quickly and end my misery. If they're no longer profitable, go ahead, become a gadget factory. We all know that abandoning a company's core and essence has always ended well. HA!

at least when the stock drops i'll feel Apple deserves it for $h(tting on their core users in favor of those idiots who think they want to type on a screen.

Sorry for stomping on iphone wanters, i'd probably consider one if i made any money and my contract was up, i just need to get out the rage.

To me

I think apple will update all its hardware (like ram bumps, processors, hard drives etc...which may make some people happy) in june...discusss more stuff with leopard...and finially fully annouce the iphone(maybe) and then anyone who would order a mac between june11 and oct(when its released) would get a free upgrade disk to leopard in the mail!) which would make lots of people happy!

We don't know that and we don't know how significant of a change it would be to replace the threading model in Tiger. It might be trivial, it might not be. We don't know what kind of corners were cut in Tiger since I think almost everyone expected Leopard would be out before the quad core CPUs arrived (this is a case where Apple's later than normal and Intel's earlier than expected). Either way I believe the exact same people who could do that are the exact people working frantically to get Leopard complete so a fix that only helps one machine for certain applications shouldn't be taken as a given.

Yes. We DO know the 8-way is a "jump the gun" release ala MM and S-S. The folks who have said this release is to make an 8-way available for developers to really make it right before the next MB upgrade are right.

Yes many folks with more money than brains will buy it as well as folks with legit multi-app 8 core needs NOW.

I believe we will see 4-way iMacs RSN (July-07).

Can I restate this fact that nobody else seems to care about? Apple has stated REPEATEDLY that rumors were untrue. "Apple stands by a Spring 2007 release date for Leopard."
Now, is NOBODY upset that they lied? Or do we give them the benefit of the doubt that some programmer walked into Steve's office this past week and told him... "Oh we calculated wrong. It isn't going to be ready for another SIX months" Cmon... Apple knew for some time... or at least knew 10 days ago when theyclaimed the Digitimes report re: october were incorrect and Spring 07 was the release date. What changed in the last 10 days?

I bought stocks based on their denial of posponment.

That was such a big fat lie that I think a law suit is on the way.

I'm a PC user and was about to buy my first Mac. The New OSX has been delayed again and to be honest I'm losing interest. As much as I hate Vista it's here and now!!!

Yes? And? So? Total non-sequitur....

Someone please talk me into staying the course.

I don't know what you mean. I guess it's good in a way that Apple marketing has apparently convinced you (and a bunch of other people) that you neeeeeeeeed Leopard somehow, but seriously, what is the point of it all? You hate Vista...fine, so get a Mac, now. Those of you who have been "waiting for Leopard" just to save a few bucks look pretty silly, don't you? Tiger works fine. So just get a Mac already. And then get Leopard when it's out...or don't. Unless you're going to let yourself be marketed to again, and think you neeeeeeeeed an OS upgrade to appreciate life, or something.

Why new mac pros? They just released an 8-core version.
The 8-core "version" is just a build option. Intel is close to releasing a new workstation class chipset and faster Xeon processors. Those will allow Apple to release an updated Mac Pro in the near future.

ok READ

I usually open MR, then go to Forum Spy. I saw the Apple announced, then saw 10.5, and thought 'far out' - did not see that coming. Then the rest of the text hit me. The four-letter word that escaped my lips was not 'drat'.

I was slightly disappointed in the delay, but that is about it. Afterall, with Tiger, I think I still have the finest desktop operating system in the world. I do not feel any pressure for an upgrade. It took me many years to discover Apple, but now I am in for the long-haul.

No, what I was feeling distressed about was having to either leave the forum, which I really enjoy, or having to wade through six months of whining, and the Microsoft, anti-Apple disinformation machine (those bas****s must be in propaganda heaven). Oh well, there is always the Politics and Religion Forum!

not waiting at all ... applecare runs out september of this year for my imac so thats when i will get my new computer september.

apple is not a trust worthy company anymore

shame on you apple ... everyone in the computer community laughing at you now ... god only knows what ppl at Microsoft will start saying about you guys now

Well, it is disappointing, but it sounds like we at least get to SEE all these top secret features at WWDC. To be honest, I was worried that there really wasn't enough time between now and June to adequately test any major changes to the Finder etc - which we're all hoping for.

And let's not forget that for now, Tiger is a wonderful OS that still puts Vista to shame.

I do feel sorry for those who are delaying the purchase of a Mac until Leopard is released though - Apple should step up to the plate and offer free upgrades to Leopard for Mac purchases in the near future, to avoid a slump in hardware sales.

so on a positive note... since they backhanded their consumers like this... after WWDC, you think they're gonna give me a voucher for leopard with my santaRosa macbook?

Personally I don't care

10.4.9 is good enough still, there is nothing from 10.5 that I actually need, it can take another year and I am fine.

Everything I connect to my Macs (3 powerbooks and a quad G5) works just fine and developers are fine with the current system. All my softwares are running just fine, the hardware is stable. Any bug is from the actual software developer, not the OS.

So... if there is a 10.5 good, more toys but I do not need them and I believe my actual applications are going to run just as good as they do today.

If is time or not to get a new mac... who cares! they will run as good with the actual system or the next one.

Just give me Iwork and Ilife updates!!!!!!!

Everything they announce doesn't come out for months.

Mark my words..Leopard will be released on october 31st, the latest possible date. Apple has the amazing ability to over-promise and under-deliver. "We have a lot of exciting announcements these next few months" Jobs said in the first week of January. Ummm...I hope these aren't the announcements he was talking about, not to mention a few months was up, a month ago.

I just wish they'd release something for us computer users. I'm actually more bummed about Ilife 07 and iwork 07 being nowhere to be found, and if this leopard delay, delays them, then I'm not gonna be happy. I really, really hope they aren't dependent on Leopard.

I understand they don't want to release it until it's ready, makes since, but I'm sure they saw this coming awhile ago (January), and they continued to deny it, it was only a few weeks ago I read a quote from an Apple Representative saying, Leopard will be on time.

Come on apple give us something, I hope ilife is out for NAB, but I really don't think it will be. I have a feeling it's gonna be displays, and Final Cut and that's it. I want software, especially Iweb updates. Come on, give us computer users some sort of bone here...AND SOMETHING WE CAN PURCHASE THE SAME WEEK!!

I'm not happy, but I'll live, but my gut tells me Iphone will be late too. It will be released on the last day of June...and only Steve Jobs will get one, the rest of us will get them in July-August.

Apple used to unveil products that were ready to ship. Now they unveil them months ahead of time, promising features that are difficult to plan so far in advance on an accurate timeline. This is the Microsoft strategy that led to Vista's shortcomings.

Better to say nothing and have a big surprise than to promise features then blow the date.

The dumbest thing Apple could have done though is tease Microsoft about its speed and three months later do the same thing for its own competing OS.

If the iPhone is as big as Apple thinks it will be, then it will generate more press for Leopard than if it was released before or simultaneously with iPhone. So long-term it will be good for Apple, but, dammit, I wanted Leopard so much more than the iPhone.

I'm all for great gadgets, but honestly how much could a phone improve my life/work? Then, I ask the same thing about Leopard. Leopard makes the bigger impact for me. I guess if I was a contractor or real estate agent then maybe a phone would make a bigger impact, maybe.

Those of you who have been "waiting for Leopard" just to save a few bucks look pretty silly, don't you?

NO! apple said they would release their os in spring 2007. I based my computer purchasing decision on that information. I personally don't have the hundred bucks to upgrade to leopard when it comes out. I wanted to buy the machine with it pre-installed to avoid spending more money. I'm getting pissed just writing this!

anyway, I don't know what leopard will have, and if it turns out there is something I really need or even WANT, I will will not be silly, but really angry.

Wrong. When a company says it will deliver something, it needs to deliver.
Its obviously ensuring the stupidapplephone is going to be delivered on time.

Apple put down MS, and Apple needs to be put down as well.

Interesting. At first I thought you were more off, but now I am pretty sure it is more on.

I always wondered why Apple Fanatics had such a bad reputaion in various circles. but afterthis thread i now know why.

seriously if major software delivery is anything like building delivery then really 4 months is nothing.

Why do you think we are going to see anything at WWDC? Because Apple said so?
Why do you think Leopard is coming out in October? Because Apple said so?
Oh.. i see. They REALLY REALLY mean it this time.
