I recall Jony saying that iTunes was more innovative than iPod. Once iTunes appeared on Windows, iPod sales soared. I can't stand using iTunes but I understand it was to combat piracy and create this ecosystem.

Great software and services sells hardware and not vice versa. It's like in video games. You don't buy the console for the amazing specs without knowing it will have some great games to play.

That wallpaper cover designer by Ives..... hmmm having seen him "design" quite a few things outside of apple.... he may think he is way way way more awesome than reality.

I believe 11 will be used next. The 9 might be skipped all together. But there is no doubt, the numbering system will continue. It's just a matter of how they incorporate future iPhone models into their line up, which we don't the answer to that.

You mean what it incorporates behind the Notch, more specifically, housing all Sensors thats designed to protect millions of iPhone users security just by glancing at it? I would say that technology is beyond Mosts comprehension to fully grasp to look past because of a design implementation they don't approve of. The Notch is more than just a physical design, it's everything structured together for what's to come.
Sorry, it sounds like you are saying TouchID isnt and never has been an adequate solution for user security.

Can you expand on this please?

I never commented on touch ID at all into my statement, so I'm not sure how you derived Touch ID on your behalf. However, Touch ID is a very adequate for security and has matured over the course of the years with the iPhone. But I also see the potential of Face ID and how it will continue to expand, and be the new form of security, which we know is ultimately replacing touch ID.

Both forms the security have advantages in their own right, it's just a matter what the user chooses for preference.

What I find it amazing is that some are so disgruntled with Apples decisions Over the years, they find a means of trying to explain to others how bitter they are over a feature or changes this company has made that doesn't fit their own narrative. Some just can't 'accept' change.

... says people who have never criticized ANYTHING Apple has ever done in the past 5 years.

Some of us or more positive or more negative than others, but it's hard to listen to someone who apparently has no critical filter whatsoever.

I got my 6S, you know what else I’m enjoying? An extra £1k in my pocket. You know what I’m missing? A slightly nicer display and some animated emojis I’ll never use. Sounds good to me.
iPhone 6S Plus owner here.

Still think it's the best iPhone when it comes to daily usefulness.

If any of the others had a headphone port I don't think that the previous pattern of newer iPhones always being the same or better in any regard (fit and finish aside maybe) had broken and pricing aside the iPhone X were a dream...

Notch and 3.5mm port aside. Too bad that that is a terrible compromise in my book and the price tag makes the decision really easy to stick with my iPhone 6S+ that I deliberately picked over a 7+ back then.

You are also missing an entirely different camera system. Regular iPhones are not even comparable to the Plus models in that regard, let alone the X.

In what way is the X’s camera system better than that on the Plus? Specifics please. The fact that my phone has a worse camera system than the Plus is true and another dick move from Apple.

It's impossible to enjoy money in your pocket. Until you spend it it's just numbers in a spread sheet.

Sure, that money could contribute to my savings and add to my sense of security, or it could be spent on more useful things. Eitherway, not going to Apple for the X.

Good. You made your own decision. Now don’t ridicule other people for theirs.

Isn’t that the whole point of forums like these :)? God knows there is not practical use in learning what the camera module of an upcoming phone might look like.

I and others who did not buy the beta iPhone are not surprised by that comment. I still cannot believe the customers who did buy it the i10 because Apple now know or perhaps knew a long time ago, it does not matter if the product is not quite good or the Apple standard, they can charge whatever they want and the customers will still buy it. I am quite annoyed with those customers as it will encourage Apple to charge £1000 for a phone in the future, so thank you for that! Just remember you will be replacing that phone in a few years time!

oh, those iPhone 8 owners = haters LOL
I don't even see that notch at all on my iPhone X. Keep telling that to yourself while enjoying your 2014 bezels haha
Its funny people throw back and forth insults about their technology choice nowadays.

Won’t minimizing the notch over time create more problems with screen shape fragmentation in the App Store?
I dont think apple will just make it smaller over time. They will wait till its possible to not have it at all and that will be the next step.
At least I see thats what will happen.

Nope. You don’t need to do anything for the notch beyond not putting UI up there. In developing you work as though the whole screen was a rectangle. Screenshots from the iPhone X have no notch.

Hahahaha!! Apples design doesnt meld into the background!!! The notch is proof of that. If they wanted a vessel for software, they would have gone for a screen design similar to Samsungs S8.

Thanks for the laughter Ivosss!!!

The notch takes up physical space - true. But so what? The bezels on previous models took up even more space, so this is a significant move towards the design getting out of the way.

Likewise, what that notch brings - FaceID - also gets design out of the way. It removes the need for users to stop what they're doing to press the home button for authentication - for filling in passwords, reading notifications etc - and just opens that up to you by you looking at it.

The iPhone X is by far the most 'design getting out of the way' design I've ever seen from Apple.

This guy is high on himself.

That's the vibe I get every time he is interviewed. Neither the iPhone 6 or the X designs are in no way groundbreaking stuff and neither is designed for the best usability by having big bezels and slippery and fragile backs. I feel at this point Android phone manufacturers are the ones that are pushing the envelope and innovating in hardware design.

this I agree with - while the concept of 'all screen' seems sound to me, the actual industrial design of the iphone since iphone 6 has not balanced looks with usability - it has been a wet bar of soap for 4 years now, and the iphone X is a continuation of that. A tiny big more grippy with the steel and the glass back, but not easy to hold

Yes, it will change when you install iOS 13 or 14 after you’ve been using iOS 12.3.3 with mostly no issues, and it will suck.

Notch haters are going to be disappointed next year when notches are in every phone. They’re inevitable from increasing screen to body ratios. I personally don’t like it but if you want to have certain functionality you got to have it. For me it’s apples desire for uniformity in edge bezels that is detrimental, they could have taken the screen to the edges but instead gave us the same bezel all the way round for consistency. I’m not a fan of doing that if you have area available.

Also doesn't work when it's ideal to unlock your phone on the sly, such as during a meeting or other occasion where raising your phone to your face is just not an option. I've said it time and time again, Apple/Ive now design for the laboratory & marketers, not for those of us who use their devices.

Face ID’s best feature for corporations. It increases your productivity in team meetings.

I'll be replacing my iPhone X with it's replacement in September 2018 and I haven't even received my iPhone X yet! I hope that made you smile.

Words are amazing!

All this things are called updates and are happening for years now in the software industry!

Only Ive would describe a phone as "this object".
On a secondary note, where can I buy this magazine in the UK?
