Who are you trying to kid Jony?

In twelve months it'll be in a dumpster, and people will be lined up around the block for the XI, or whatever you call it.

That's how Apple can afford to keep you in T-Shirts.
Oh, you mean the Eks eye?

My Watch, Pencil and Airpods are a joy to use. They’ve increased my productivity and my creativity. (Which has translated into satisfaction, recognition and money.)

When I look at Ives’ career, from the iMac (which helped to resuscitate Apple) to the iPod to the iPhone to the iPad . . . I find an astounding, and inspirational body of work.

I don’t have an iPhone X but I admire the design. My Apple Watch is my favorite, and most used, piece of technology in my 33 years of Apple products. I admire the aesthetics of these products and I’m grateful for the positive impact they have had on my life.

I quite like the Pencil. I think it's the coolest piece of tech Apple have created since Cook came on board. I am glad you enjoy the products they are making now. I do not deny the creativity he and his team bring to Apple products, I just think he's fallen off the wagon a bit in favor of fashion over function.

Apple's computers helped me to be very creative too (and were the reason why I got into web design and fell in love with graphic and industrial design ) I happen to miss that inspiration in the current output. I wish that Ive would just get over his fashion over function kick and get back to making tech that helps me be creative rather than thinking about it.

I suppose I should just ignore any comments from Apple brass going forward because it's beginning to seriously sour me on the brand, not to mention price points and quality control issues with hardware and software.

I am glad you are still getting so much enjoyment from your Apple purchases including newer tech. :)

The more I read comments from Apple brass the more frustrated, annoyed and disappointed I am with Apple. After 21 years, I am not quite sure where I stand. Ah well.

The iPhone Notch reminds me of one of the old (transitory) Powermac G4 designs.

some other uses of this notch shape by Apple over the years:

So because people don’t like a product we’re looking for 15 minutes of fame?

Seriously?

I have a 2012 Mac Min Quad Core 2.3GHz i7, 2015 MacBook Pro 13” base model, hex core nMP with a 512gb ssd and d700 cards, and a Late 2015 iMac maxed model. I love these machines. I also have a iPhone6+ and iPad Pro 12.9 512GB LTE and both are great devices.

Why is it if I don’t like the notch on the iPhone X I’m all of a sudden trashing the entire brand? Good grief.

Jeeez... Try and process what I wrote. I said nothing about about products.

You really sit around in waiting rooms, on the trains, etc. worrying about whether people notice that you have the latest iPhone? Serious question. So basically the more Apple charges, the better you'll feel because you have the APPLE FLAGSHIP baby! BOOM!!! That is worth a lot right there. Total strangers being impressed that you have the APPLE FLAGSHIP. Why not tattoo a notch on your forehead and an Apple logo on your butt. That would really impress.

Guess what? I'm still rocking an iPhone 7 Plus, don't even have an iPhone X, so your little tirade is a bit misplaced. I guess my overall point was totally missed by you and perhaps a few other readers....sorry about that.

My point about this being good marketing strategy remains, as even those who don't really know a whole lot about Apple or its various models and devices, will notice that notch and perhaps wonder about it...... No question about it, that thing does stand out from all the other smartphones with the big screens and small-to-no bezels. Some people, like those of us on this site, are likely to notice what smartphones others are using in various places and immediately will recognize the notch and say, "aha, an iPhone X!" Whether or not we actually own one ourselves isn't so much the point as that spontaneous spark of recognition factor is......

Well, I am sorry for your disappointment. :( All I can say is that as a sculptor I do have an intimate relationship with my tools and if they don’t suit me—for whatever reason—I find an alternative. I never pretend that something satisfies me if it does not. I get rid of it. It’s tricky if a tool is “OK” but not great.

Yeah, the head design guy at a $900B company is overrated. Or do you mean he’s overrated because you don’t like his designs?

Apple did a LOT of things right and built up quite a bit of momentum for the company, so it'll be long before the cash generation slows...a lot of it the result of Jony's hardware design which provided just the right new & innovative & convenient control needed (iPod click wheel, iPad, touchpad) and which didn't get in the way of letting the software experience just shine. Now though, Jony has no business in software/UI, where I believe he's the reason so much of the "it just works" part of Apple has slowly but steadily been eroded over the past 6 years. And now (I assume) he's a large reason why so much of the hardware aspects are being stripped away so that the "software can control the experience" (paraphrase of the article, above)...hardware stripped away that once defined Apple's uniqueness (magsafe) and/or which provided flexible, convenient use for the customer (headphone jack, USB ports, expandability, touch-unlock etc.). Newsflash regarding touch/face unlock: many, many of us frequently unlock their phone while it's not at all convenient for face recognition, such as when lying on a desk, in a holster in the car, in our lap while in a meeting or dinner, on our bedside table in the dark, etc. Things Jony obviously doesn't think of in their bright-lit laboratory with rubber floors, which is the only environment I think the iPhone can best work within the constraints its been assigned over the past few years.

$900B company that will keep getting $750 from many of us every 3-4 years due to the scarily-quick pace their phones become outdated (or shattered). Apple's currently still better than the options (Android, PC) even if no longer the unquestionably only option like it once was before this strange stripping-away of UI and hardware due to pompous blow-hardy design priorities like the article unintentionally hilariously shows above... "Design shouldn't get in the way" except their fragile designs completely get in the way of physically lasting 3 years unless ensconced into a case which completely negates all the blind devotion to thinness and sleekness....

Many of us like Apple's designs even with the aspects about them we despise. They're still a little better than the "material design" competition that's overall worse to many of us. Make sense?

I see Apple just blacking out the notch for all photo video in the future. This would honestly quiet 99% of the complaints.

As always, people need something to whine about. Personally think it’s good use of what would be otherwise unused space. With a bit more optimization people won’t even know it’s there.

The level of discourse at MacRumors is embarrassing. It's like a bunch of children tossing around one line insults as if they are terrified of people and companies that actually succeed. 6 pages of snarky comments and not one tech discussion worth reading. It's sad, sophomoric and ultimately useless.

Agreed. I use to enjoy coming to macrumors to read the comments years ago.

You in no way shape or form can declare that absolute. The people Ive talked to are 50/50 on FaceID and thats really concerning for supposed game changing tech. People could reject it and demand Apple go with the superior touchID.

Yes, but I’m sure more people were unhappy with the headphone jack being taken off but it’s not coming back either. Apple doesn’t have a very good track record with backtracking on things that people complain about. The only exception that I can remember was the Mac Pro and that is only because the design turned out to be really poor, not just that people didn’t like change.

And I still disagree that Touch ID is better. It is slightly faster for initially opening the phone but for everything else you use it for is it faster. Plus it is more secure and easier to implement than underscreen Touch ID.
