Just like the X. Something like this...

Oh man, don’t tease such things lol.

Past couple years I was wondering if new ipads would adopt the iPhone 6/7 design of glass rounding into rounded aluminium edges, but they stuck with the chamfered edge continuously. Really curious what happens.

One thing I hope for, though not sure if they’d do, is rounded screen corners like the X. Rectangular screens suddenly have this old look after seeing free form screens like on the X. Especially that iPad dock just asking to be matched by the screen.

Disappointing. I hope they also make a comparable iPad with Touch ID. I just purchased the iPhone 8 Plus over the X because that ridiculous notch and lack of Touch ID was a deal breaker. I understand Apple wants to be considered a trend setter but this is really more about hype and marketing than functionality.

No, Face ID is about making security even more seamless and invisible. Doesn’t take much to see how it improves computing and how it can be beneficial on iPads and future Macs.

I think it will be pretty similar to what we see there. Rounded corners, notch, everything. I can't wait.

No home button on iPhone -- not a big deal. Small phone; easy to swipe up.

But I think we can all agree that swiping up will be a little more difficult with an iPad. I hope that you don't have to swipe up a farther distance due to the bigger screen. I should still be able to do with with my thumb alone, without having to move my entire arm.
Getting used to it right now on a 12.9 in landscape. Totally doable - except for 7 years of home button pushing...

100% this. It's going to be in the phone, tablet, laptop, and pc eventually.

This is true. Otherwise, you're going to be stuck with one Face and x number of passcodes. Quite inelegant.

Trivial? If trivial, wouldn't it be possible now? If it was possible why would a person need to shift their face left or right? Face ID reads off angle fairly well. The iPad will be less than 2ft from the face, the angle won't be that great.

Eh? There are probably countless things that are trivial that aren't implemented just because Apple sees no need to at the time.

i'm talking about the ipad. my ipad pro sits on the keyboard cover in landscape much more than in portrait mode. if i have to take my ipad out from the keyboard cover to rotate to unlock my ipad, that's a huge problem.

I see. I guess you are right, on iPad would make much more sense to unlock the device on various orientations.

I expected these features to land on the 10.5" iPad Pro first so that is my guess on what we will see. They might put them on the 9.7, as well, but I could see the 12.9 getting it last if there are supply constraints.

The 9.7 "cheap" iPad? That is going to be the latest to get it simply due to its cost (unless you're referring to the 9.7" Pro, but that's been discontinued). My guess they will put it on both Pro iPads and they will get it at the same time. There shouldn't be supply constraints as they will have been making and refining producing them for the iPhone X for a year by then.

face id in landscape. AND user profiles please, they were rumored years ago.

I'm wondering what can they do to the Pencil?

I’d like better battery life or a way to turn it off, a cap that is less flimsy, the connector could function as a male/male adaptor so you can take that off and charge the pencil with a regular lightning cable if you don’t want to charge it on an idevice or don’t have the female/female adaptor with you, I’d like a secondary function on the other end of the pencil (could be an eraser, like an eraser on a physical pencil) and/or a function button like for switching tools and also a softer tip that doesn’t feel like it might damage/scratch your screen/pencil when you are too enthusiastic.

I knew this was going to happen...

Nope... as someone who lays in bed to read her iPad, likes to just lounge with the iPad, and especially uses it in landscape all the time unless forced by an app, nope to FaceID UNLESS it works much better than it does currently AND supports landscape.

I really don’t want to see a notch on the iPad. It’s my most used Apple device.

Day one purchase for me as long as iOS 12 continues to invest heavily in iPad.

Apple needs to understand its the software holding back the platform. Better hardware is great, but without the power to do more with software it remains a upllementary device. But with better software changes the value proposition altogether.

But yes, the ability to tap an apple Pencil, authenticate an iPad lying flat on a desk would be awesome.

I'm glad to see the home button go. I often accidentally press it when I'm holding the iPad. Which brings up a concern… How are we expected to hold the iPad if they minimize the bezels that much? I almost wish they'd leave the larger "chin" so we have something to hold and then get rid of all of the other bezels. No cut-out forehead please.

I reckon headphone jack will be removed on this one, which means I need to move quickly to secure a recent model before the headphone jack is gone. I rely on that to listen to all my music. 512GB here I come.

My timing for iPad replacement perfect, barring any misfortune with this one. What is all the hype about a camera notch? Not like you walk into a cafe and someone says, hate your notch. I intentionally face my screens away from others viewing anyway. For me, all about the functionality. I use my iPad in landscape most of the time. Apple could put the camera on the top in this mode for all I care. Now down to pricing. Hope for the best.

Well, I was all set to get a 12.9 IPP this weekend. Now what to do?

So far loving Face ID but is it the sole reason to buy a device? I'm thinking no. I have a 12.9 2017 iPP. Fantastic device even with the old fogey Touch ID. At $1200 or whatever I paid no way could I be enticed to upgrade unless the next iPP was as slick as the X.

Nothing in the description said anything about a bigger screen size just slimmer bezels. I read that to mean smaller footprint. BFD. I don't really have a problem with the footprint. I'd say if you are inclined to buy, buy, esp. if you get a BF deal.

Oh I don't know, only because it's the best manufactured tablet on the market that does everything my laptop can do and more. It's the best device I own in my household.

What's changed that would render iPads as 'lame' if they weren't before?

FWIW I use mine every day and eagerly await the 2018 model.

iPads are still very useful. Large screen to look at news and other goodies while your phone charges and is ready to go when you need to leave. Larger battery and you can take calls as well.

The question really should be why are you not using your iPad more?
Well, maybe an iPad is far from enough to use things like endnote, powersimulator. Play Steam games. Play Starcraft II. Use MATLAB with raspberry Pi support. Write python program. And much more.

Especially, when an iPad is as expensive as a computer but sadly do way less.

I cannot justify the need of iPad. It is best for consuming, but not producing, with some exceptions.
