Darn, that sucks. I just bought the 2017 iPad Pro to replace my iPad Air. Guess I should have waited... o_O

Can I just like...use my iPad as a secondary monitor with my mac please? Like, officially without the need for third party apps and a good frame rate? Maybe even some integration with Xcode?

HAHAHA yeah right, I'm lucky if autocorrect doesn't spit out random unicode characters under Timmy.

Samsung
continues to be the only display maker capable of producing OLED displays suitable for an iPad, but technical and financial constraints will prevent Apple from adopting OLED at this time.

Financial constraints will prevent Apple from adopting OLED for,the iPad? Wow! $300 billion in cash isn’t enough?

No reason for the iPad to have a notch, the top bezel doesn’t need to be that small on a device that large. Maybe on an iPad mini but most think that form factor has been discontinued.

Off topic:

Personally, I hope they refresh the mini with an A11 next year, it could keep the current package of the mini 4 and be sold for another 3 years. Seems like a no brainer to me, but maybe the volume just isn’t there.

It is an important size for certain vertical uses, and some individuals prefer that size as well. And anyone who thinks an iPhone plus makes a 7.9” mini unnecessary has probably never seen them side by side. There’s really no comparison—the mini has more than twice the screen real estate (2.3x) and the 4:3 aspect ratio is just better in iPad-sized devices.

If the volume isn't there, it's because Apple has let the mini become legacy, with all the frills going to the Pro.

Time after time, I read people say the mini is their preferred format, but if Apple isn't pushing all the new, fast chips into the mini, then many will not buy it, hence, volume appears to be low. I love the mini format and refuse to buy a full-sized iPad. As a matter of fact, BB had a sale today and I picked up a couple mini's. Price ($275 for 128GB) was too good to pass on!

Plus, just the fact that people DO want a new "Pro" mini pretty much guarantees Apple won't do it. It seems Apple gives people features they don't necessarily want/need/ask for, but ignores products that people BEG them to upgrade.

How are they going to overcome the fact that Face ID only works in portrait orientation?

Doubtful. Even though I really do like 3D Touch, I think it would be a lot more difficult to manufacture in an iPad with a display of that size. Tim Cook commented on the difficulty even implementing 3D Touch when the 6S launched.
The new implementation of 3D touch in the iPhone X doesn’t rely on a separate layer, so might be more feasible for iPads.

What does Apple’s cash hoard have to do with profit margins on products?

Why would anyone buy an iPad anymore - so lame
It seems you have no idea. I have at home and my office an iMac 27", and an iPad Air when I'm moving, And believe me, on iOS 11, when you work with office, email, etc. It's what you need in general !! Unless you are coding or something like that, its the perfect "mobile computer".

Too bad Apple doesn't consider any technology where they can't make 60% profit. Somehow, Samsung manages to make and sell tablets with OLED displays.

No button = children cannot use. They understand the button. Gestures will be mysterious.

I was going to upgrade my air to a new Pro over Black Friday.. but after reading this, I think my air can tough out another year. It's starting to feel really clunky.. thank god I didn't put IOS11 on it.

And I thought that current iPad Pro 10.5 would be the standard iPad design for a few years. I don’t mind if the internals or random specs/“features” are added, but I do like to stay up to date on the physical design.

This would be pretty slick looking if the renders are any indication.

1) There’s nothing that competes with it.

2) I can do all my work on it.

3) I can do all my home work on it (think Masters Degree).

The real question is, “why does anyone buy an iPhone anymore.” To call people, I use my Apple watch. To watch a movie I use my iPad. To check time, Apple Watch. To access devices on a network, the iPad. To write docs, ipad. To track my meetings all day, Apple Watch. If the Watch app was on the iPad, I’d no longer need an iPhone.

Exactly, that's why they are the most profitable company in the world, because they refuse to make products people want. LeSigh.
