Pity. I was hoping for a long time that there would be a space gray keyboard without the keypad, but it looks like they’re going the other way and killing the whole lineup.

The Logitech may be better to you but it's still not uniformly designed to blend in with a Mac. It's just a standard keyboard and mouse for any brand of computer. For many they want Apple accessories since they're designed to match perfectly with Apple's computers.
this isn't true. the logitech mx keys is specifically designed for mac users. it even has the same colors (space gray, black) as the magic keyboard that is the topic of this thread.

the same goes for the logitech mx master 3. it's black, space gray, and silver, the same colors you'd expect from a mac

if you do a quick google search and read threads of people comparing the logitech's mx set with the apple's magic set, it's pretty clear that the majority of people prefer the logitech mx set.

based on your comment, you only want the apple magic set because they're from apple and not because of any objective reasoning.

I just love posts like this calling a multi-trillion dollar corporation stupid. Apple knows how to run their business a whole lot better than people posting on forums.
The comment wasn’t calling the company stupid. the comment was calling the move stupid.

I have been using the MX master 3 keyboard and mouse for a year now and they are simply awesome to use. May not look as good as the Apple keyboard and mouse, but are certainly far nicer to use [especially the mouse].

RIP best colored Keyboard
Agreed - I think it looks great with a silver iMac. I bought one a year ago. Just bought a SG mouse - my white mouse is rthe only thing looking out of place. Probably should have bought two. Hold one until I could sell it and end up paying for both. The 2nd market price for these pieces are going to go trough the roof. I jjust want a space gray wireless keyboard with illuminated keys :)

I doubt you will see Touch ID on a trackpad - too much engineering for a peripheral. Changing a button? Sure. But making a portion of the glass pad recognize a fingerprint - I don't think so. They got rid of 3D touch - which I enjoy - still holding onto my XS-Max - almost 3 years old and 92% battery health...

Exactly my sentiment. I have no use for the numeric pad. The space gray keyboard/mouse would have gone great with my space-gray, (normally closed, under my external monitors) MBP.
Once I got used to having my mouse closer with a compact keyboard, it felt weird to use a full-sized one. If I had a ton of numbers to enter I suppose I’d haul out my full-sized board but it doesn’t make sense for daily use for me.

Glad I have these and decided to just use a beautiful monitor with the M1 Mac Mini... I worry too that we're moving to more colors with white bezels... I think those will be great for kids and education settings but not so much for pros. Hoping I'm wrong and the M2 iMacs are back in a variety of styles / ranges.

As a pro the iMac is just a tool If worst comes to worst and they're only going to be available in CandyApple colors, then just stick some matt black tape around the white bezel if its proving too much of a distraction and be done with it :)

Feels like this is in line with apples move back to colours. The white magic keyboard case for the iPad is telling too.

Remember the Mac Pro came in silver when it would have logically been assumed that it would be SG after the iMac Pro

For years we wanted black keyboard caps on external keyboards before space grey was even a thing and they stubbornly stuck with white. Same with AirPods, Apple Pencil…. I’m sure they were pressured into dark mode for software too.

The only hope is that they will get they rounded effects seen in the new 24” iMac. The keyboard is definitely a different design there (new short cuts too), but I think the trackpad is also rounded off? The Magic Mouse? Probably changing the black hue on the top. It’s still basically the same glass colour they used for the iPhone 8/X and HomePod indicator.

I have an older Magic Mouse with two pairs of rechargeable batteries and a universal charger. So there is always a charged pair of batteries ready to swap in. I have been doing this without issue since my 2011 21.5 was new.

This has nothing to do with what I was saying. Not a single word.

Don't throw words in my mouth. I didn' say I only want Apple products because of the name. Don't make up stuff like that. Also I did post objective reasoning. This is a Mac forum discussing Apple products. Oh how dare I or anyone prefer Apple's accessories to some 3rd party "clones". 🙄

Dang, RIP to the homie ✊😞

Off-topic: I sliced my ring finger on a tin can once and it has been incredibly sensitive ever since. I could never use the Magic Mouse ever again because it pressed right into the scar. I am glad trackpads are a thing.

It's fine for me. Zero issues. It needs to be charged once a month. I leave it overnight when it is getting low on battery.

I just don't get the hostility to this. How many of you have a dead mouse that you absolutely have to use while plugged in because you couldn't be an adult and charge your ****?

Because if you have connectivity issues then, unlike the keyboard, there's no fall back option of resorting to cabled use

Because it's an unnecessary restriction That the smallest interface connector of all current standards couldn't be placed at front of the product to allow conventional use whilst charging, isn't for any user benefit

Maybe they’re planning an NFC charged mouse. Then we’ll have to buy the $59 mouse charging storage tray or the $79 charging mouse pad that isn’t included with the mouse.

aye and whichever you choose they'll demand you place the mouse on it upside down :)

RIP best colored Keyboard
Satechi makes excellent keyboards and mice in space gray styled to match Macs & iPads...

Briljant move. They will now entirely move to white and coloured options. And then in a few years they’ll reintroduce space grey as the next best thing.

Don’t teach Apple about fashion trends.

Right. They make the accessories match the products they accompany. So the space grey keyboard matched the iMac Pro. If the new high-end iMac comes in space grey they will want it to match. Just how all the nee color keyboards match the M1 iMac.
You’re missing my point. The ones now don’t always “match” - it’s not an exact science apparently - so the idea they’re replacing them with some slightly different shade is unlikely to be the case.
