Perhaps other retail firms do it, but I just have to say: Only Apple has the balls to sell discontinued items as its original over-priced full price.

No sir-ree, bub! No closeouts from Apple! No "Everything Must Go"! No "Our Loss Is Your Gain"!
No one is forcing anyone to go out and buy it if they think it’s too high on price.

I just love posts like this calling a multi-trillion dollar corporation stupid. Apple knows how to run their business a whole lot better than people posting on forums.
Right. They should buy enough AAPL do a hostile takeover oust Tim Cook and Co. put whatever plan they have in their head into place and see if they can do better. Put up or shut up, right?

Is there any loss buying the discontinued trackpad? Is there any way that an updated one gets Touch ID?
I would expect Touch ID to only be on the keyboard, not the trackpad. The new iMac keyboards have Touch ID in the spot the old eject button was, top right. There's not a lot of description about the new trackpads though. At the moment you can't buy the new iMac keyboard or trackpad separately.

I guess that mean we are not getting the bigger iMac in SG?
What makes you think that? The M1 iMacs have redesigned keyboards and trackpads with more rounded edges. The keyboards have Touch ID.

These discontinued space gray options are the older, squared off edges. It makes sense to get rid of these before the new ‘pro’ iMac is released. That new model might well be in a space gray option, and will have the updated keyboards in the new style and with Touch ID.

Ugg, that probably means no space grey pro desktops with black bezels in the future? I prefer space grey over silver. I don't want a party decoration as my work machine....
Don't worry, you will get your black accessories and computers in late 2021 or beginning of 2022.

I think maybe the space gray version has lower sales than many other versions because it may not be very popular. I hope Apple will come up with a better color

Hold on to those Mac Pro's , in the future they will be one of hose rarities like G4 Cube

I predict and hope to hear the same about these new god awful colorful iMacs.
one of the worst Apple designs next to iPhone 5X,and hunch iPhone battery case..

Bit of a downer if you own any Space Grey Mac and want a replacement keyboard/mouse/trackpad at any time in the future. Hopefully they will introduce new models soon enough. RE: TouchID in the new keyboards - that's all very well and good, and welcome of course, but why on earth did they not put FaceID in the new iMacs? Bizarre.

Following the discontinuation of the iMac Pro, Apple also appears to be discontinuing Space Gray "Magic" accessories that it sold separately alongside the iMac Pro. The iMac Pro was the only Space Gray Mac, and Apple designed special matching accessories for it.

The Space Gray Magic Mouse 2, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad all now say "While supplies last" in small wording at the bottom of each product listing, which means that these accessories will be available for a limited time.

When existing supplies of the Space Gray Magic Mouse 2, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad are exhausted, Apple will only have these accessories available in a silver color option.

Following the 2017 release of the iMac Pro, Apple began offering standalone versions of the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse 2, and Magic Trackpad 2 for customers who purchased the iMac Pro and wanted matching accessory options. Now that there is no longer a Space Gray iMac Pro available, Apple apparently does not plan to continue making the Space Gray peripherals.

The new M1 iMac comes in seven different colors, complete with matching trackpads, mice, and keyboards, and right now, those accessories are only available when purchasing one of the new iMacs. It is not known if Apple eventually plans to sell the colorful Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Keyboards on a standalone basis, but it's a future possibility. The iMac Pro accessories did not become available for purchase separately until several months after that machine was released, so we could see colored accessory options in the coming months.

The Mac Mini came in space gray too. I have a keyboard and trackpad that matches. But no space gray m1 Minis. Too bad.

You’ve got that right. The overreactions around here is ridiculous.

has he? Overreactions to what exactly? Simply pointing out that the mouse is unusable while connected to its charging cable cos of a design decision is an overreaction now? Still stuck if you have a comms issue - easily sorted by plugging in the lead when keyboard or trackpad are having the problem - no luck if its occurring with the mouse

so if he wants to get petty and insulting then looks more like 'any justified criticism is just a red rag to the roasters'

Apple goes colourful = bitch, bitch, bitch…
iMac doesn’t go chinless = bitch, bitch, bitch…
No Space Gray = bitch, bitch, bitch…
White bezels = bitch, bitch, bitch..
Magic Mouse (used for years) = bitch, bitch, bitch…
Apple didn’t do what we wanted = bitch, bitch, bitch…

Apple makes mistakes, but they get far more right than they get wrong. Yet to listen to supposed fans everything Apple does is wrong.

Some things deserves criticism and fair disagreement, but the over-the-top whining is ridiculously childish.

Yes, if aesthetics were the issue (personally I never look at the back of my mouse!), you could imagine a magnetic solution (maybe covered by an Apple logo). And if the base socket has advantages, why it not also done for the keyboard and trackpad. A "convertible" corded/cordless mouse would actually be a nice design touch!

Because if you have connectivity issues then, unlike the keyboard, there's no fall back option of resorting to cabled use

Because it's an unnecessary restriction That the smallest interface connector of all current standards couldn't be placed at front of the product to allow conventional use whilst charging, isn't for any user benefit
1. Applies to ANY pure bluetooth peripheral.

2. That's just a whiny opinion.

Have bluetooth issues with peripherals (Lord knows, I have)? Buy a str8 wired mouse.
