No one is forced to work at Apple. Don't like it, leave. All these complaints are just so stupid. Thousands of people would like to work at Apple almost for free. Throw them in jail for breaking their NDAs.

What happened to good old fashioned company loyalty? Especially for something as great as Apple.
Employees owe the same loyalty to a company as the company shows them. In today's world that is zero. Demanding loyalty while demanding the right to fire employees at will is attempt at corporate serfdom.

The more the years pass the more I feel that working at Apple is bureaucratic and boring. Their low glassdoor ratings compared to other big tech companies says that. Gone away are the feelings of a cool company. It seems they are freaks about controlling what their employee is doing and very strict about that.People don't seem to have any work freedom.
I can’t comment for certain on this but I do think that this is somewhat true, but part of it is public perception.

Let’s be honest, pre-iPhone Apple was the underdog, and that carries a positive perception along with it. David is the hero, Goliath is the villain.

Now that Apple is a dominant power, they are now “Goliath”, and have the negative perception that comes with it.

everyone in here being like “poor babies” and making fun of the people who wrote the software you’re using right now… I hope you never become team leaders because everyone will quit with that garbage attitude
Oh yeah the software that I paid for which gave those self-entitled brats a job to create. Hilarious that you think people here should be greatfull to engineers who create the software we pay for. SMH 🙄

The people that say “don’t like it, leave” need to be responded with the employees leaving.

This is starting to sound like the beginnings of unionization at Apple. Yikes. No wonder they wanted everyone back in the office. It doesn't seem like this can be reversed though.

Still, this isn't Walmart or McDonald's and these people aren't fighting for a few dollars over minimum wage. These are privileged, well paid individuals so the bar is a *lot* higher for them before I start to feel sympathy.
You have no idea what you’re talking about. Even if all employees were well compensated (they’re not), why should anyone anywhere have to suffer discrimination or bullying at work? You come across as extremely entitled and lacking in real-world experience with nonsense like this.

I’d sleep better knowing the people who write the software I pay (out the nose) for are satisfied in their job. In fact I believe that satisfied employees write better software, which enhances my experience.

And they can write the software inside the building the were originally working at in the first place. They weren’t hired to work from home so they have no right demanding to remain at home just because they got a taste of being at home due to COVID.
Telling people to act grateful to software engineers for writing software that they paid for is far worse than people complaining about others siding with Apple. I’ll be damned to kiss up to a software engineer that got paid from money out of my pocket. He/she should be grateful that customers are paying for it otherwise those engineer brats wouldn’t have a job. Your stance on this makes no sense.

People who already don't like Apple will immediately believe negative allegations, and those who are fine with Apple tend to be in the "if you don't like it then leave" side. So ultimately not much changes for anyone.

I tend to side with not biting the hand that feeds you. I left a company where I was unappreciated and seriously underpaid for a direct competitor that fixed both problems. But never in a million years would I dream of getting online and bashing them by name on social media, during OR after working for them! It's just so unprofessional.

Because I haven't seen any accounts or verification of such behavior. This *all* started when Apple announced that people need to come back to the office and suddenly all these allegations came up which leads me to seriously question the credibility.

We're not going to back any claims just because people are saying so. Name names outside of discord and provide accounts and corroboration of what transpired. Otherwise, Apple employees are coming off as wealthy folks who are looking for any angle to keep working from home.

This goes a long way in explaining the current lack of QC in Apple's software. There must be an awful lot of unsatisfied software engineers at Apple.

Employees need to thread carefully on this. Don’t forget that you’re not the only engineer at work or even outside work. At the end of the day, they can easily replace you. For companies like Apple or Google, they have a pool of good developers. Unless you possess some great/unique skills, Try to negotiate first for a better working condition with your supervisor.
Don't be so sure about that. The flip side of that statement is even more true. Apple and Google are not the only companies on the block and not the only ones paying at that level. They also are not the only place with a pool of good developers. Sometimes for them to take notices is they need a large voice.
Apple also has to be very careful because they are not the only game in town. In the tech world software engineers are in short supply. It oddly enough is the employees that hold a lot more of the cards. My employer knows I am blatantly ignoring recruiters right now and I have been for over a year with several emails a week right now. They know that I can quickly find a new job if I want to. That is the current world we live it. They know keep me happy for I start putting feelers out and there is nothing they can really do to threaten me. This is pretty true for most of the software devs. We all have the power to find something new very easily. At the same time we are struggling to find people as well. The good ones tend to have options.

In all honestly in the Tech world Apple is not best employer. They push you hard. they pay well but they are not as great as everyone here thinks they are. For the FAANG companys Google, Netflix and Microsoft tend to be the better big dogs with Facebook and Amazon being the worse. Apple is middle of the road. Just Apple on your resume opens doors.

Totally agree. I mean, forget about loyalty, they’re getting paid handsomely so they can either s.t.f.u and keep working or quit and go somewhere else.

I’d ban Slack on App Store. It looks like an app that allows dangerous talk and ideas and radicalize people. Seems like a violation of Apple’s terms of service. I call for better censors.. ehm, moderation of speech there.

Not only that but also Apple does not pay that well compared to other big tech companies, so anyone that is talented enough to work for Apple can easily get another job paying significantly more.

Yeah, but is it so much "bashing" them? Or are we talking about constructive criticism because their employees can suddenly find out what other divisions are doing?

I can tell you I witnessed the same thing at another tech company with a name starting with "A". They started rolling out Slack and before long, you had groups creating private/hidden channels just to have discussions that their manager couldn't see or be part of, and you had all of this visibility into what other employees' days were like. There were many discussions just comparing expectations of teams led by different managers and a struggle to figure out what the "big picture" plan really was for a lot of projects.

The other unintended consequence is some of us learned how little actual work some of the higher paid managers really did. (They had a number of "hobby" type channels they made to discuss interests and you could go to, say, #cars, and see some of them concerned which of their 10 sports cars in their garage would be best to take out to a race later that day, etc. Others joining it, in support roles and the like, were more likely seeking advice on the best deal on a new tire for their 20 year old daily driver they relied on....)

Truth. Apple uses it reputations and name in getting engineers but they also are starting to lose the shine inside the tech workers. They pay less and treat their employees not as great as others.

Pathetic to see so many people on these forums in support of a multi-billion dollar corporation over their fellow man who just want a better company culture and better working conditions. You are the same people who hate that apple will start scanning your photos....yet you defend the corporation over fellow human beings with actual lives and who want privacy. Some of you need to really take a look in the mirror and re-define your priorities. You are no different then someone who hates the removal of a feature like a headphone jack, yet then turns around and buys the latest product supporting the companies decision with your hard earned money.
Better working conditions than at Apple’s offices?
sounds like some poor hipster cant fathom the thought of going back to what he did before Covid. After all, when enhanced privilege just plops into your lap, why would you want to give it up?
Human up, grab a week’s supply of the trendy food and drink of the moment, and get back in traffic, just like the rest of us.
if the job was good enough for you to commute then, it’s good enough for you to commute now.
