This. Working for any company is an unspoken social contract: You provide the workplace, I provide the work. If you don't like my work, you will complain. If I don't like your workplace, I will complain. If either crosses a threshold of tolerability, you may fire me, or I may quit.

Neither side should somehow pretend this agreement doesn't exist.

Sometimes though, it seems that employees forget they have the power to quit, just like some MacRumors members are on their second decade of complaining about non-repairable Macs instead of just quitting.

Good, I hope they get to work from home as much as they want. Apple just wants to justify its stupid overpriced campus, that’s the only reason they’re pushing back because loss of productivity ain’t it.

everyone in here being like “poor babies” and making fun of the people who wrote the software you’re using right now… I hope you never become team leaders because everyone will quit with that garbage attitude

Those people wouldn’t quit. I’d have them fired 🔥🔥🔥.

Some people want to permanently work from the office. I'm one of them. And it's a huge hassle to sync up with everyone and make sure everyone understands what they're doing when a few members of the team are working from home. It's just a lot of extra work to communicate with them. Once in a while WFH is ok. 2 -3 days of working from home per week is straight up not ok. Your teammates are making an effort to go to the office, why can't you?

And no, you're not getting more work done when you're at home. Even if you are, you're missing out on team innovation, not available to other members who might need your help or input which slows other people down.

You mean when a few members of the team are a bunch of self entitled self centered whiny brats 😫😫😫

It’s not unspoken at all. At least in the US you sign a contract outlining your job role and how much you’ll get paid for servicing that role. It’s all spelled out ;)

It absolutely is how it works in an employment-at-will state, which includes most states in the U.S. (I believe there are only one or two that are not). Some states have specific exemptions that further employee protections vs. employers, but most do not:
Employers cannot treat employees poorly, even in an at will arrangement. They are many laws that protect at will employees from employer indiscretions. Being at will does not mean "take it or leave it." E.g., you cannot sexually harass an at will employee and then just say "leave if you don't like it." The at will employee has the right to a safe workplace and due respect.

Apple bashing is free real estate for news outlets so any complaint (whether it has merit or not) coming out of this new “speak up” era will be further amplified.
I find it funny that these employees are feeling safer with Slack yet they’re don’t realize the power of bots and certain implementations of Slack make it so these employees are MORE focused upon and easily watched.

anyone that’s properly used slack before knows this.

I love that good improvements have been made. There should be a new channel called #Pay-Equality4Work

I can’t imagine anybody disliking working in that expensive spaceship campus Apple built.

They only hurting themselves! They need to sell the spaceship and move to North Carolina! We love working here!

My office doesn't have windows either. But they do give me a paycheck and that's why I'm there.
So you have the option of getting a new job

No matter how nice a campus is at the end of the day it becomes just another office. Yeah it looks nice but lets see you still have to drive to the office. You still have drive to the office. You still have to walk from the parking lot into the building. You still have to be around other humans.
New buildings honesty are only cool for a little while then it just becomes another office.

A lot of boomers writing a lot of pro-work propaganda in this thread. Remember, if the top talent is leaving because they aren't happy with the work conditions, then a lot of people with knowledge and experience in the company will leave and your products will be made by cheaper juniors. If that happens, the the quality will deteriorate. Employees have shown that they are able to produce stuff remotely and would like to continue to do so, I don't see any problem with that. Seriously if you'd get your heads out of your asses, you'd see that the world is always changing.

Pathetic to see so many people on these forums in support of a multi-billion dollar corporation over their fellow man who just want a better company culture and better working conditions.

All I read about was a bunch of malcontent employees throwing accusations around and generally whining. I highly doubt that Apple is actually abusing/mistreating their employees in any way.

A friend of mine didn't like the company culture where he worked a few years back. You know what he did? He quit and worked somewhere else. He didn't stay there and whine. It's called growing up and acting like an adult.

you're whining right now! Be an example for them, log off right now like the adult you are!

Uh...we're talking about whining incessantly about your JOB (especially when you're supposed to be working), not a non-work-related discussion on an internet forum 🤦‍♂️

Apple reaps what they sow: entitlement and out of touch culture.

The chickens have come home (literally with WFH) to roost, and I won't shed a tear. I hope the dumpster fire of disgruntled ness continues to snowball.

Their HQ is a space ship: out of this world, perspective wise, detached from reality. While also grounded.
Until its the greatest thing since sliced bread. But let the employees leave...I'm guessing others will fill their collective spots.

Oh yes, whining on a forum is very adult-like

First of all, I was hardly "whining" about anything. I was pointing out my observations about what I read and gave an example of somebody who handled discontent at their workplace in a far more productive way.

Secondly, there is a HUGE difference between bad-mouthing your workplace or employers on work-related communication channels and complaining about things in general on a forum.

Pathetic to see so many people on these forums in support of a multi-billion dollar corporation over their fellow man who just want a better company culture and better working conditions. You are the same people who hate that apple will start scanning your photos....yet you defend the corporation over fellow human beings with actual lives and who want privacy. Some of you need to really take a look in the mirror and re-define your priorities. You are no different then someone who hates the removal of a feature like a headphone jack, yet then turns around and buys the latest product supporting the companies decision with your hard earned money.

I have never in my life seen such staunch emotional defenses for the company of mass manufactured products, not even the products themselves people hunkered down a lot of cash for.

People should look themselves in the mirror and wonder what they've become, and how they've gotten there. imo.
What's "pathetic" is the entitlement in this thread. If you and your employer don't see eye to eye, and it's come to the point of no return...the employee is free to find employment elsewhere. The company can be Apple, Citigroup, Exxon or whomever...if the job no longer suits one, then leave.

This has nothing to do with CSAM scanning. Just some generalized, unprovable false equivalency internet tactic.

I'm sure there would be many that would welcome to chance to work at Apple at the spot you (the royal you) just vacated. Now maybe Apple will come around, but who knows.
