I gave my CC info over the phone yesterday evening, but no charge yet. Have you checked your repair status on mysupport.apple.com Mine just says "no status available".
I've read on reddit it'll say that until you pick it up. That was about a week ago I read that.

I had exactly the same worded work authorization as you created for me yesterday, at about 5.15 EST, in California. What region are you in? Did the apple store call you directly, or was it apple care?

It was my local Apple Store that called in Indianapolis. Try calling and let us know what they say

Why would I care?

I see they've stopped doing the exchange now, surprising no one with sense. Enjoy your needlessly weakened battery XD

People can still get their battery replaced... I was lucky enough to get the 2017 though :D

So semi good news: Over 2 days later I received a call from the store today asking for my CC. The genius said that they're not supposed to give replacement units out but they will still try to get me one. He prefaced it by saying there's a chance it might not happen but they're gonna give it a go and it should be a week before the machine comes in. He also mentioned that I'll get charged as soon as it ships.

I'll keep checking my bank website

This is really great news for me. I have yet to be charged, but got a phone call last night around 5:30 asking for my CC info. I'll keep a close eye on my bank account and see if the charge goes through.

Grats then :) Welcome to the 2017 club, the dongle grumbles are way overblown.

Those who have been hammering their batteries super hard just for this might be kicking themselves now, but it's probably good that they've pulled the plug now rather than wait until a bunch of people have had time to do lots of unnecessary wear (cycle death on a battery that probably lasts a couple of hours at full load would probably take a few weeks at least)

I have been following this thread since Monday (7/24), and after realizing i most likely for this criteria I rushed to get a 1:30pm appt yesterday (7/25) for my 2012 rMBP, as the service battery has been a constant warning for months and i’ve ignored the message until i saw this post. Brought to genius yesterday (7/25) and sure enough the battery max was 74% and under 600 cycles so he immediatey got excited and offered a 2015 refurb but that i would have to wait a day until the admin could process but I had to leave my laptop there.

Today (7/26) I read about the policy change and freaked out knowing the process was logged but not actually started so I was worried that they would call and cancel my new system and just offer a battery replacement. However the admin finally called around 4pm and asked for my CC and said they will have to process the new system after 7-10 business days and he would keep me in the loop on the process but it could be 7 days before I hear anything.

Thanks for the posts about watching my bank statement for a charge, I’d be so lucky to just make the cut if I could get any newer model system I would be very pleased!

I will also respond with any news if anyone is interested.

I did tell them to go ahead and put the order through, thinking that maybe on the off chance something good would happen. He didn't actually tell me I could decide whether or not I want it once the part arrived, but I just assumed that to be the case since they didn't take my CC details at the time.
Did you got any service report/work authorisation afterward? I got nothing till now.

I find it interesting how some people are upset they didn't get a free new laptop when they went to get their battery replaced. Something they previously didn't know was even a possibility is suddenly their "right".

This truly is the age of entitlement. It's a bit sickening, really.

I am wondering what people think might happen in my situation. For the record I don’t feel entitled - just felt excited that I might also be fortunate enough to receive apples kind customer service. I brought my computer in on 7/24. They said they would call in 3-5 days for cc info. They haven’t called yet, but the policy change sounded like it was only for new orders. Do I have reason to worry that they might back out on their commitment to replace my computer? My screens anti glare coating is coming off and the screen hinge is loose. They wanted 1200 to repair. I am not looking for handouts... I just have never had a Mac do this with the screen and I’m pretty bummed. Also my battery was at only 56% with 820 cycles. I just feel like this Mac was really substandard from their usual quality. Did I miss out on this unreal opportunity?
