I hate heptic touch sooo much. Especially when i want to move the music slider on the lock screen to certain time. I can NEVER set it to desired time since i have to first press that crap really hard, slide it to desired time, and when i let go of it, the slider moves 30 seconds up or down because when you lift your finger, you always make a small "move", which phone registers as if you moved the slider a bit. ITS A NIGHTMARE!

The only thing i like about it is for opening the camera from lock screen. Other than that its total crapfest.
I even forgot about how I use it to activate the torch and open the camera from the lock screen. I use it all the time, even subconsciously.

This is sad news. We knew about this but nevertheless i am disappointed. I dont know why so many people dont give a crap about 3D touch i literally use it all the time. It is so convenient to do so many things with it. I really do not understand why they chose to abandon this feature (that is exclusive to apple phones) instead of trying to make people see the benefits of using it. Be it a tutorial, a guide, something.

3D touch is one of the few tech features apple could boast against its competitors these days...

Really won't miss it. Don't miss it all on my XR, long-pressing works as well in most instances and it was never clear where 3D Touch would and wouldn't work... it was mostly a guessing game. In all honesty, the biggest feature I enjoyed about the 3D Touch was pressing firmly on the keyboard to get a mouse-like cursor. That is still present on the XR by long-pressing the space bar.

It wasn't a bad feature, but was mostly a novelty.

Thats great to know!! As force touch in the keyboard sometimes dodnt work at first and few trys are necessary :(

So maybe even long press space bar would mean work always.

Instagram peek i.e. has work since the begining with long press in devices W/O 3DT and I find it almost as quick and more reliable than force touch , so maybe Apple also agrees with this and they save some money/space?/size and can male iPad similar feature

It never made it to the iPad, and they didn't bother to put it on the Xr which is maybe the most popular iPhone of 2019. 3D touch days are numbered, and I won't really miss it.
My main usage of 3d touch was on the keyboard, but it is possible to do the same by long pressing on the space bar. 3D touch isn't consistent across the system, and it is hard to discover. I hope they'll offer a different way to open apps shortcuts on the springboard, and I guess a long press could be ok. It could be the right time to fix the way you can arrange icons on the screen, now that we have taller phones I'd rather have my icons at the bottom of the screen instead of having them aligned to the top.

This is a feature mostly everyone on here calls a gimmick but I love using. I hope they keep a variation of it on the new iPhone.

It's not a gimmick, but the discoverability of 3D-touch enabled UI has always been a pain point. Once you discover something useful it's amazing.

3D Touch is as useful as the touchbar on the MBP. Both are rather gimmicks, and if they went I wouldn’t miss them!

But each to their own...

3D touch is cool tech. I really like the idea but in reality, rarely do you remember or need to use it. It's relegated to nothing 'pressing' and just another way. If apple had made it central to how you use the device it could have been great but also limited non touch and killed the os having an out. I feel like they really need to get rid of ALL the feature bloat in this next phone to really go all out on making it the best phone possible.

A full uninterrupted screen with touch ID under the screen, stereo front firing speakers, no ports at all (magnetic connectors) popup front facing camera (yes this is the best for now solution) a big battery, make it iphone 5 thick would be perfect.

It's not that people "don't give a crap" about it, it's that people don't generally know it even exists - and that's all on Apple. Like you, I use 3D Touch all the time and find it extremely useful. But if we are roaming around Mac forums, we can't be classed as your average iPhone user. Stop 10 iPhone users on the street, or ask 10 members of your friends or family, and I can guarantee 8/9 of them either won't know it exists, knew but forgot, or know but never use it. Two of my friends were in Control Center for about 20 minutes the other day because one of them wanted to turn AirDrop on, even when I told them it was a switch hidden by 3D Touch, they weren't force pressing the screen they, instinctively, were holding on to it and nothing was happening. So they first didn't know about it, and second when they did couldn't even activate it properly (which begs another questions why did they market it as "3D Touch", rather than "Force Touch", at least force touch suggests what you have to do).

Apple is so unreliable with its "features", time machine on the Apple watch was killed off in a single generation. All these animated wallpapers and 3D touch wall papers are all you get. Now 3D touch itself is going. So sick of apple release a selling point only to immediately stop supporting it the moment it is released. We are only NOW getting airplay 2.0, since v1 was in 2004!

There’s no reason for Apple to have introduced the delay in 3D Touch for app icons other than to try and cripple the technology. This is home button delay and animation speed crippling on older devices all over again and it’s disgusting. It’s not natural market forces at work but artificial manipulation.

I pretty much feel like selling this phone now and giving up on Apple. Not because this alone justifies giving up on a platform, but because it reinforces a pattern of behaviour and erodes my faith and confidence in the brand. I’m at breaking point in terms of whether I will buy Apple again and I think getting rid of or crippling 3D Touch is the straw that breaks the camel’s back.

The only 3D Touch feature I’m missing on my XR is the keyboard cursor. That needs to be implemented with haptic touch.

Shortcuts to flashlight and camera on my lock screen are terrible, I wish I could turn them off. Too many accidental triggers.

I don’t like the actions on the Control Center either, it makes for so many hidden UI elements... Just look at selecting an output for sound, they made it into a normal clickable icon in the last update because the Haptic Touch action is too much of a hassle.

“Peek and pop”; what does this improve to the experience? Just make it faster to open something and easier to return to your original location. Swiping from the right to go back in an app or swiping the “home bar” to move between apps does just that.

iPhone should be simplified IMO, removing 3D Touch could be the right move.

I have probably used it less than 10 times since the 6s. Just don’t care for it so not fussed that it is going!

I saw the writing on the wall as soon as it was launched among the many reasons, it wasn't a compelling feature.

This is the one rumour that will prevent me from upgrading. 3D touch is one of the better interaction additions since multi-touch.
They said the same thing to me about the 3.5mm jack on the phone.
Luckily phones are not getting compelling reasons to upgrade so was easy to hang back.
Its just a matter of time.

If they add all the 3D touch shortcuts as haptic touch, sure why not.

lol... People like their 3D touch... Feels like another "we need a headphone jack"

We got over that one with dongles,, and it'll be no different here.

In fact these reasons aside is NOT because i refuse to upgrade... My main concern is price point.. So i purchased another iPhone 6s Plus. The features are second.... like FaceID not need it

I really hope they don't, I use it all the type to move the typing cursor, to expand notifications and preview links.

3D Touch is a cool tech, hope they find a way to improve it, you don't know where you can right click either on a computer and that has been fine.

The lock screen shortcuts work perfectly fine with 3D Touch. No accidental activations because you need to apply a degree of force to use them.

I have an iPhone XR and I miss 3D Touch a lot. Haptic touch doesn’t work as well, it’s much slower and can’t replace all the shortcuts. Also, do the torch and camera are often activated by mistake with haptic touch (when you grab the phone from your pocket you can inadvertently touch the corner of the screen and activate them), but wouldn’t be activated with 3D Touch unless intended, as you need to deliberately apply pressure (and this also is useful when you quickly want to take a picture and don’t miss the moment).

Wel thats really stupid,3D Touch use it all the time and its really satisfying...havent tried haptic touch though and dont know if thats the same or even better...will give it a try someday
Spoiler: haptic touch is literally normal touch or long press with haptic feedback. Inferior in many ways.

I think that for Apple was problem that they can not make this function standard on all phones so it is mess as they are strict on seamless experience across the board.
HW difficulties and costs does not help either.
I would be surprised if they would remove it in iOS 13. They could face rebellion :) I hope they will extend haptic to the same level as 3D Touch. If they change way to organize home screen then they can use long tap for quick actions. Even on SE or other phones without 3D Touch. With rumored home screen redesign in iOS 13 it can be option.

As an 7+ owner, I was debating a iPhone XS vs. An iPhone XR because of 3D touch. I elected to go with the XR, not looking back - Haptic touch is good enough for me, even with the less than 3D touch performance. Minor compared to the price difference.
I upgraded from a 7 to an 8 for wireless charging and improved internals. I'm basically done, for now. I don't want to lose Touch ID and I don't want to lose 3D Touch. That leaves the iPhone 8 as the ultimate phone for me, at the moment.

I disagree, I use it every day and once you learn which apps have the function built in, it's extremely intuitive. Being able to quickly see how far an address is when someone messages it to me is much better than opening it in another app, then moving back to the messages app to respond, you don't even have to move your thumb! Removing 3 steps to do the same thing, tripling the total time to accomplish the same task
You’re using it. That clearly makes everyone else using it. If it wasn’t such a fail feature Apple wouldn’t even be thinking about removing it.
