I really wish MacRumors had split notifications for iOS blog, Mac stuff etc.

I find the iPhone rumours tediously dull. I'd enjoy the iPhone reveal a lot more not knowing what was going to be in it, but ever year we've basically seen every single part of it leak first - no wonder it's not a surprise.

But hey, it's a rumours site, that's cool, I know people like this sort of stuff - I just wish the brilliant notifications could be split up so I can see when new Mac hardware is due, macOS updates launch and all that jazz without every iPhone part and rumour too.

(P.S. I also find all the iPhone rumours painfully obvious anyway. If Touch ID is removed with an in-screen solution then obviously a software animation will direct you to where you press your finger when touch ID input is required. The lightning to USB-C cable is now a no brainer too.)

As Im reading this Im imaging you shaking your fist in the air and stamping your feet. It's a lot more enjoyable that way.

If they can't put it in the display I'm all for it on the back like the pixel and likely the S8. But put it in the top corner opposite the camera. That is a more natural spot to reach than the middle.

It'll be centered in the bottom bezel err "function area" along with a 'camera area" at the top the actual useable area will be <5.1"

No bezels = i'm in.

Now maybe they can copy my 10 year old Nokia and make a phone that doesn't sound like that caller is underwater.

IPhone released pushed back tbh

It would make sense for Apple to introduce the 7S first and then a few months later the 8. It would keep things exciting and sell a lot of phones. You'd have a lot of people that would get the 7S and then turn around and get an 8. That could be huge for profits.

If that is true, society is in serious trouble

Me thinks Surface Pocket (and Galaxy Note) will severely mute Iphone 7s adoption and by the late time 8 comes out it'll be the same reception as 2016 MacBook pro and jokes about the function area. I highly doubt anyone will buy a 7s and want an 8 by that point. Perhaps the 9 will catch up.

This September 2017 iPhone8/pro start production deal will be problematic for Apl so will the "year of expectations" train. See the 4 yo mac expectation train for details.

These "wishful adoption" rumors of 160M screens..expect cutbacks reminds me of when they ordered 90M 6s's and had to severely cut production...Apl needs to realize Iphone is not desired nearly as much anymore in 2017. Where is their new "must have" device product line?

You might also see people saying "why get the 7S when the 8 is right around the corner, and the rumors make it out to be awesome", and then Apple can't sell enough of the 7S to satisfy the press and Street (IOW, they only sell 3x the previous phone instead of 5x).

The real question is if the display runs across the entire front, will there still be a recessed circle like current touch ID or will they go totally sleek and use the screen UI to show the location.

My guess is they need a recess to make positioning accurate. I personally however do not want a divot and would love an entirely flat front panel.

I don't think anything about the fingerprint sensor being on the back is convenient or natural. There are literally thousands of times I have unlocked my phone using touch ID while it is sitting on my desk or a table, something not possible with the sensor on the back. The front is the way to go, in my opinion.
My Xperia XZ has it on the side and I find that an acceptable alternative to the front, if the bezel size needs to be reduced.
The back is a no go for me also...

That's a good point. If they needed to make the divot, then hopefully it is center, small, and as low as possible. It would look odd to the left or right of the phone. However, if they can manage edge to edge display on most of the phone then I guess I could get used to whatever they decide to do with the finger print divot.

Don't worry there will be a completely totally obvious "seen from space" "Touch HERE to unlock" verbiage with a big arrow.. why is it only apl users need cluttered instructions to touch or swipe?

It seems apple is moving up the release dates. I hope the " regular" 7s and 7s+ will get more upgrades than just a new color and newer soc and cams. Perhaps a small design upgrade, with glass backs and alu sides and better ips/lcd displays? Higher res? Perhaps replacing the 5.5 inch display of the 7+ wirh a 5.7 inch , with smaller bezels and chins? Just like they are doing with the ipad pro 9.7 inch in a fee months. I would definitely go for that one, and wait if the iphone 8 is up to the challenge.
But the iphone 8? Seems you won' t be able to get one until january 2018 , a few could be available in november , but demand will surely be very high and not enough supply.

I can' t help thinking there are a lot of mix ups in all these rumours and we have been put on the wrong foot. Something isn' t right...
I think a new se has put rumors off.
Will there be se models based on the 7 and 7+ designs? And will there be a 8+ besides the rumored 8?

So 2 se models and 2 new models?

I am really reaching here , i know, but somerhing is off about alle these rumors.

i can see apple introducing an entire se line that is in essence in the same price range as high end from other brands and an ultra high end line, that have the highest prices around, same as the huawei porsche design or the xioami mimix. Only apple will sell millions instead of a few thousand.

The best way to create demand for the ultra high end is introducing a " value" line , that has distinct features and is very recognizable and is known in the public as the iphone for the " poor or less fortunate" . The ultra high end will be the ultimate status symbol for iphone users.

Or something like that. Don' t know yet.

This is looking more and more like a limited edition phone to make wonders to Apple's margins
$ 969 64GB and 1069 $ 256GB

iphone 7 and 7s to justeify the primium price of the REAL new phone, not that 4 YEARS iphone design with the 720p display! ,
just like the macbook pro without the touch bar that is for the peaple who "NEED" a macbook air, a trick to make tou belive that the macbook pro start at 1299, while the REAL one with the toch bar start AT 1499!
insted of selling the touch bar from 1299 like thay should be from the start,

lets procced,
32 to 128 gb on all devices, 150$ to 450$!!! watch bands,
seperated ipad cover that cost more than 100$ both, and cancel the 69 leather ones,
apple pencil 100$ and magic trackped 129$ up from 79$,
and icloud, from 200gb to 1tb, what ABOUT 500gb option?!

there is NOTHING in the middle anymore with that company, trying to sqeeze every single pany from you by manipulaiting you to upgrade every single time on everything!!!

steve jobs was so SIMPLE... ipad - 499,599,699 ---- 16,32,64
iphone - 199,299,399---16,32,64
and so on on everything

in this days, apple makes a polish black iphone and sells it ONLY in 128, why?! why not give all the optins to every costumer??? why trying to sqeeze the penny from each and every one of your costumers while you have 250 billion in cash?? where is the --- "lets try to answer every need of ALL of our costumers and lower the product price as much as we can without affecting the quality, and i dont care how you will do it" approach?? NOW, it all about the money with them!
You keep asking the same question in different ways but that doesn't change the answer. Apple knows their customers have the money and will accept artificial limitations to a point. In order to keep their ASPs and profits high, they continue to offer the best but also most expensive products. But things really weren't much different with Jobs. The only difference was there was no smartphone competition when Jobs was with Apple. Now there is a lot of competition in different forms. Apple has 2 choices, lower prices and deliver less or find new ways to justify price increases. Keeping prices and products the same will not work when competition continually delivers more for less or more for more (like Apple).

^THIS very well put. Will people figure this out?

"More for more" should be "Same/less for More" FYI
More expensive = Veblen Good

I think both ways work but Apple has been training users to use the front for the past 4 years and it works well. Changing that now would be a mistake whereas Android phones have no continuity and seem to change things like that with every release cycle so it doesn't matter how many times they change.

I think it should have voice, retina, facial and fingerprint recognition, a 5k screen, be completely water proof to 20 meters and have expandable memory. And headphone jacks. I also think I should be given one and not have to pay for it.

You can get this by becoming the next CEO of Apple. Then you can give everyone here on the forum a free iphone

Right but as you describe above it would depend on the sensor being in multiple locations. We don't really know anything about the sensor at this point. In my post I described w/ and w/o sensor location flexibility.

Yes, the "button" would have to be the sensor. If that sensor can be made movable within the grid overlay it would eliminate all left hand/right hand and stretch issues.

Steady innovation, not radical.

Amazing how many people refuse to understand the big difference between the two.
