I find the iPhone rumours tediously dull. I'd enjoy the iPhone reveal a lot more not knowing what was going to be in it, but ever year we've basically seen every single part of it leak first - no wonder it's not a surprise.

Im sorry but. why read or even comment on them? I know how to skip lot of articles that don't interest me here. And as you may very well be aware, you can't have both, follow rumours and have surprise when stuff is unveiled.

Its everywhere though on all news outlets/podcasts , people are desperate to see Apl do something cool again. Its like trying to avoid air. It's their new Coke moment

This would suck. you would have to reach to high to get to touch ID. The below image shows where it gets tricky to reach in terms of just the screen. The problem increases with the size of the device. So even if this is device is the same as the 6, having touch ID higher than the actual screen would make the stretch far too great for the majority of users.

iphone-heatmap.jpg

Just tested with and iPhone 5s and it is just as hard to reach the upper left as with my regular 5.2 inch screen.
Seriously these pictures assume that people have super tiny hands or that they squeeze the sh*t out of the poor phones or that humans haven't developed fully opposable thumbs.

For me the areas on the graph for 5s are achieved if:
Green Natural = squeeze the sh*t out of the phone and tap around with my thumb
Yellow Stretch = how I would use it regularly, I am using a comfortable thumb opposing
OW (bottom right) = Can also simply be reached if hold comfortable
OW (left top) = uncomfortable to reach, requires change of grip

These images are just really narrow-sighted. It doesn't take into consideration:
  • Different size of hands
  • The way different people hold the same phone
  • The way same people hold different phones

Imagine if the whole display could be made into a fingerprint reader and it would not register a touch at all if it didn't recognize the finger. Law enforcement would have fun with that one...

Would be outlawed or restricted form import to US congrats ...Apl is not a government
Phones should NOT have personal info you want restricted form law enforcement

Amazing! All the engineering going into this phone, it's easily worth the money. Can't wait for release!!

Given the legal uncertainty in the states regarding what you know vs what you are and 5th amendment protections as well as the violation of 4th Amendment protections by DHS at up to IIRC 100 miles inland of USA border crossings, Apple desperately needs to introduce an authentication kill switch to quickly disable biometric authentication.

This keeps getting more and more exciting. iPhone 8 2017 - many doubted because they just assumed apple's two-year cycles would continue.

No bezels = i'm in.
And yet u put a case on it and destroy the design. Never understod why ppl r obsessed with design its whats under the Hood and iOS that makes an iPhone an iPhone...5.5 viewing screen with or without bezels WHO cares

I don't think anything about the fingerprint sensor being on the back is convenient or natural. There are literally thousands of times I have unlocked my phone using touch ID while it is sitting on my desk or a table, something not possible with the sensor on the back. The front is the way to go, in my opinion.
THIS. Putting the sensor on the back would be hell. As a developer I unlock my phone thousands of times a day with TouchID when I'm testing, and my phone is sitting there on the table. If fingerprint is on the back, that would be a terrible user experience.

Imaging if this means the whole display can register a fingerprint - this would mean you might be able to fingerprint protect apps from launching - or even part of apps being secured.

The whole display will not recognize prints. And I'm not really sure what benefit a full screen finger print reader would add to protecting apps from launching or being secure. You could still have all that with the haptic Touch ID button we have now. Unless I'm misreading something?

I love the way people get excited about a different way of doing what a phone already does. Once it's unlocked it's the same iPhone.
Well it's more because we can have a iPhone 7 Plus screen size in a iPhone 7 form factor. That's a big win for a lot of us who don't want to be forced to hold our phones with two hands all the time..

Case or no case, a bezel-less design is still going to be awesome. And the top and bottom bezels that currently reside on the iPhone are (IMO) the only thing that ruins the design of the 7. They look so tired and dated on an otherwise awesome looking phone.

I really wish MacRumors had split notifications for iOS blog, Mac stuff etc. [ ... ] I just wish the brilliant notifications could be split up so I can see when new Mac hardware is due, macOS updates launch and all that jazz without every iPhone part and rumour too.

Given Apple's pace of Mac updates, you'd be better off just turning off notifications and checking out the site a couple times a month instead. ;)

That being said, I find myself less amused by iPhone rumors (or new iPhone/iPad features) now than I used to be. It could be because the novelty wore off, or it could be because they've basically reached a point where it seems like they do about everything you might want and reasonably expect them to do, and at this point it's just minor upgrades (which, for some reason, I can't help but include an edge-to-edge screen and in-screen TouchID as part of--this iPhone 8 rumor barely even makes me excited).

Still, to anyone telling you not to read a rumors site if you don't like iPhone rumors many of us remember when this was truly more about Mac rumors, hence the site's name. Obviously, Apple's attention seems to have shifted to iDevices (besides the more or less annual now-mostly-minor macOS upgrades and refreshing hardware whenever they happen to think about it) and the site has followed suit. But the site now categorizes storeis, and perhaps it would be possible to offer different notifications for each "section" if that's something enough people wanted.

it's not about getting excited for a new way to unlock the phone (although the proposed rumor is very cool) and everything about gaining 7+ screen real-estate on the perfectly sized 7. THAT's what I'm pumped about!

Eh? Not sure about the other poster, but most people are talking about the top and bottom bezels, not the sides. Unless you're using cases that have some kind of giant overlap on the top & bottom ;). We're simply interested in a better usable screen to device size ratio.
