Apple Homepage Now Redirecting to Event Countdown Ahead of Tomorrow's Announcements

And so the excessive, self-serving drama queening has officially begun...

Take oneself offline? I think I shall.

Really shock the hell out of me Apple by taking down your store at the start of the presentation and end it with Tim saying "..and everything we talked about today is available for preorder starting now at the Apple Store online."

It's quite logical really. Only so many people can be on the stream before it crashes, so Apple needs to limit the audience somehow. Given that there's an upper limit to people who can view it, how would you select your audience if you were in that position? Limit it to people on your services because that's your core audience. Id rather exclude PC users who are "meh" on my brand in order ensure that the true fans are satisfied. Trying to satisfy everyone satisfies no one.

Businesses purposefully limit their audience all the time so that their resources aren't overwhelmed. Think Nigerian prince schemes made to sound ridiculous as a way to exclude anyone even remotely internet savvy from wasting the scammer's time. It's related to the economic concept called Adverse Selection.

"Behaving like a child" - what, you mean because they're sensible by not wasting time, money and resources trying to test their streams on every conceivable platform and/or device known to mankind? That's not childish, that's common sense - they want to sell Apple products, and they aren't OBLIGED to stream on non-Apple products... or have I missed something?

Deal with it, and watch it on iTunes/elsewhere, after the fact.

Because there will be enough iOS/OSX devices trying to watch it there won't be the bandwidth :D

No need to be weird with the reply, it was a genuine question.

Apple I assume has no REAL need to preach to the converted, and it wishes to attract users that own other products, to join with them and convert to Apple.

Hence it seemed odd saying "you must already be in the Apple club to view a new Apple device"

I don't have to "deal with it" as I can watch it fine.

As I said, if Microsoft said only PC users running Internet explorer could watch an even that many on all platforms would be interested in, then everyone on these forums would be up in arms about how arrogant, petty and childish Microsoft was being.

I will admit, I do not understand how streams work. I would of thought Apple could just stream to a selection of major sites, and those sites would in turn, seconds later stream the feed to others like a web. Not all coming from Apple direct.

85% of people around the world are using Windows PC's
Under 7% of people are using Mac's

Just seems strange in 2014 to be this way. That's all.

To me the big news about this announcement is Apple is trying to redirect viewing traffic to its own devices and website rather than MacRumors and Engadget and whoever else.

It has a mobile friendly site that adds the event to your mobile device calendar and everything.

That's the news to me in all this.

Rocketman

Anyone else get the inside joke?

We're talking iWatch and it's got a big countdown timer with hours minutes and seconds on the main page of Apple.com

No, because it's just a ticker - means nothing. I think you're maybe over-analysing it :)

If they are going to be talking everything we think they will then its going to be pushing 2 hours.

Depends what you think they will talk about. I think it's the iPhone and the iWatch. For that, two hours is just fine.

Don't expect Macs, Yosemite, Apple TV, iPads, iPods, Newton, etc.

That post was a great example of self-serving drama queening.

Apple has created a culture of exclusivity. You're either with Apple or not, so it makes sense for the live stream to work with Apple products only.

People who don't have Apple products are like outsiders intrigued and enticed by the Apple culture.

I disagree. Apple realizes not everyone will be interested in the keynote. Makes no sense to waste the resources. Especially when blow by blow coverage will be handled by multiple websites. People can peek at a category and still maintain a productive day. Count me in that group.

People who don't have Apple products are normal people. I'm going to go out on a limb and say most of them don't care one way or another about the Apple culture. Heck I have Apple products and don't care about the Apple culture either. Truth be told, I have no idea what Apple culture means.

All that being said, the keynote should result in a ton of page clicks for tech websites for the rest of the week.

While I think this event will be huge from the perspective of Apple and Apple fans (myself included), why do I have the feeling that if Apple unveils let's say an iWatch, that it will be a big letdown?

6-inch iPhone 6!

In order to keep products exquisitely :apple:pple-esquely simple, a 6-inch iPhone 6 will be announced ;)

Either that or they've figured a way to make it stretchably user-adjustable from 5"-7"

Now I know they're just messing with us. :p Stick a timer right in front of your face to speed the nail-biting process.

It's very unlike of apple to make as big a deal about an event as they have with this one. I'm hoping the hype matches reality.

Hopes high, expectations low.

I'm still stuck in Steve Jobs-era Apple, where surprises were HUGE and the keynote was highly entertaining. Lately I've only caught the highlights of keynotes, not watch them end-to-end.

I just can't stand Tim's painfully.slow.delivery.either.

That said, all the high-end secrecy has me wondering if I should watch it this time...

I don't care for iDevices; that ship has sailed.

Buuuuut....

I'm still wishing for a new Retina 17" MBP and xMac, however unlikely! :p

Indeed.

After doing some thinking and research, the only times that hype appeared to match reality was the original Macintosh unveiling and the original iPhone unveiling.

As big as an Apple fan as I am, I can actually see them falling flat on this one.

Wait, nobody mentioned that yet. You are a genius!
And did you got the "other", level over 9000, inside joke?

Hours (1 word) + minutes + seconds = 3 words. 3. We knows what this means.

Still being more lucrative than every OEM combined?
