I’d bet quite a bit that this will be pulled after the same amount of time - these are ‘Special Edition’, after all, and will be gone when the 8/8+ is replaced by the 8s (or whatever they decide to call it).

Glass isn’t anodized.

The whole phone is made of glass? Yes, the glass parts are painted internally, again a final step before assembly.

That's my personal favorite iPhone 8 as far as looks. Love the black bezel. Very nice phone.

Who cares? No one is forced to buy this. Why do people have to be negative and cynical about everything these days?

I think it's because there are a lot of very angry people in the world. And for those who are into tech and participate in tech forums, it's a quick way to deal with and release some of that pent-up anger. It's only a temporary fix, though.

Vigorous exercise is a much better way to deal with that.

I don't understand the appeal of having this as a color, since most everyone uses a case and can just get a red case. I like that it supports [RED] but other than that, what's the appeal?

I always purchase clear TPU cases for all my iPhones and iPads. They let the true Apple color I have chosen to shine through.

Well, maybe a collectible? Since the 6S is *still* being sold new, I imagine that we'll see the 8 for sale for at least a few years. Unless Apple really surprises us with a TouchID iPhone 9? That doesn't seem likely given the talk from Apple senior execs about FaceID, though I'd like to be wrong about that.

APPLE: you clearly listened to fans regarding (RED) with the black front. Now, please listen again: we love this phone, and the cause, but it makes no sense for us to wait 7 months for it. For the next iPhone release, please release (RED) alongside the other colors!

But introducing a premium-priced product mid-cycle doesn't seem like a strategy that would ever generate a lot of sales, regardless of the bezel color.

I’d add that the TouchID rim should be red too, but at least I’m happy the front is black. I might grab one.

Never used a case on my 6S +. It was a tough phone.

The 6S+ didn’t have a glass back though.

I think these phones look great. I don't understand why Apple would make someone wait 7 months after the new model comes out to get a red version. I feel like a lot of people would be happy to support the cause and buy red models if they were available at the same time as the new release. I know I would.

Apple has done this release schedule many times which means they understand exactly how many they will sell. If they released this phone the same as their new phones, they wouldn't be able to properly forecast demand and it would lead to many unhappy customers waiting longer for phones than usual.

I've been waiting for the red 8 plus. Was going to go with an X last fall but decided against it because it's crazy expensive, even with the trade in deals it doesn't put much of a dent in the cost!!!!!! I love the black on red!!!!! slap a clear rhino shield modular case on it..... beautiful.

Because most americans have health insurance? You don't have to support this, no one is making you. But it's a nice thing to do.

Who you care about is up to you, and how you spend or donate your money is also your choosing entirely. If you're concerned that AIDS charities in the US don't get enough donations, you could maybe promote local causes and donate your money to them rather than posting statements that get nobody anywhere.

BINGO! Despite what Tim Cook said, he lied. iPhone X sales were disappointing and there will be no iPhone X (RED) because it will be discontinued within a few months.

Mid cycle sales. They do this half way through cycles to get a few more sales before a new release. Oddly enough, a new color usually works, especially one that people wanted from the start. Some people are okay waiting a few more months on a color.

I don't mind waiting.....sometimes you can get really good carrier deals too because they are offloading the other models before fall product comes out

But dang, I was hoping for a red iPhone X Still, my 6S is on its last legs in terms of battery and I've been getting "S" phones ever since I first had an iPhone and the 8 is basically a 7S, so this could an excuse to upgrade my phone...

Inventory as in remaining mobos and cases. The case color is just anodizing, one of the final steps before assembly.

Ridiculous. The iPhone 8 will be on sale until Sep 2018 for sure, and likely for one more year afterwards (as Apple typically does).
