I'm hoping that we're going to get these announcements weekly so they'll have time to update all of their kit before the end of the year.

You're missing the big issue: Each of those were replaced with a better replacement. The only logical replacement of the 3.5mm jack is USB-C, not Lightning or Bluetooth.

Something missing from that list is Ethernet. At one point WiFi became good enough and more convenient as a wireless solution to avoid having another wire to use. I honestly just think that's the angle Apple is going to go with.

Also, why can't lightning or bluetooth be a better replacement? Maybe it's subjective what "better" is. I'd say my bluetooth headphones are better than wired headphones.

Bill Graham Civic auditorium is a big venue that seats 7000. Previous Apple events here:
  • WWDC 16
  • September 2015 "Hey Siri" Event
Big venue = a lot to cover. Last year's keynote clocked in at nearly 2.5 hours (including One Republic's set).

With iPhone as the only confirmed product, everything else is up in the air. Granted, I think they'll spend a huge chunk of time on the iPhone and its integration with iOS 10. Gruber has a great piece on the Apple Watch 2, highlighting the fact that Apple needs to get it out before the holiday shopping season. Apple Watch is like the new iPod when it comes to gifts. So, I think we'll see it next week.

I don't think that's enough to warrant Bill Graham. If they announce the release date for Sierra, wouldn't it be great to showcase it on some new hardware?

What a blurry photo. Terrible.
Here's the full version of the graphic. Much better when seen in full view.

CDs/DVDs were cheaper and offered more storage than floppy disks. People got over it quickly.

The touch keyboard was more versatile, durable, and allowed for faster typing. People got over it quickly.

The dock connector left when the main product that used it, the iPod, was dying. Lightning connectors were reversible and easier to insert and they retained the same price point so it wasn't a big deal to gradually (or even quickly) replace your old cables. People got over it quickly.

The thing about removing the headphone jack is that that's an interface used by people almost everyday and doesn't offer alternatives that aren't cumbersome or expensive. People will have to always carry around an adapter, or shell out the cash for two or three hundred dollar headphones. All the other examples you listed did not have this problem, or if it did the technology and pricing juxtaposition was balanced and made it an easier pill to swallow for people. But not so with wireless headphones. I have probably a half-dozen or so pairs of 3.5 mm headphones, but just one pair of bluetooth.

The thing is, the majority of iPhone (and smartphone) users are probably just using what was included in the box. If the new iPhone had lightning headphones in the box they'll just start using those. It's likely a very small slice of users that will be annoyed by needing an adapter to use their more expensive 3.5mm headphones with.

I have 1 pair of 3.5mm headphones myself, but 3 different types of bluetooth headphones I always use.

This is a honest question to everybody on this forum and not meant to troll, nor defend Apple:
What would your reaction be if Mr. Cook, or Ive, or the lady that manages all things environmental at Apple explains at this upcoming keynote that the design upgrade cycle will be taking longer because of Apple's new policies regarding recycling and not taking away more natural resources than what they are already taking? That they rather upgrade internals and prefer to use re-processed packagings, device casings, already tried/proven and working production lines, so they can keep up responsible production of iDevices? Same design for maybe... 5 or 6 years? Upgraded and up-to-date internals every year. What's your stance on that? Would you think it's greedy on their part, or a responsible commitment? Would you rather see them as a separate "Recycled Line" of products (not remanufactured, but a line completely focused on environmental issues and recycling.)
Is it worth it? Credible, even? Do you think Apple might/should be heading that way?

I hope I am wrong, but I fully expect this to be the bad day for Apple and Tim Cook.

Surely the most underwhelming iPhone launch in history. Clearly a plan B device as whatever they had actually wanted to ship was delayed. This isn't going to help stop the decline of iPhone sales, quite the opposite I'd say.

Getting rid of the wire and going wireless.
Why can't you do that, and at the same time keep the 3.5mm jack? Also, it seems like Apple won't be shipping wireless headphones with the iPhone 7.

You forgot to mention the following disadvantages of wireless headphones:
- Less user friendly
- Needs to be charged
- Heavier
- Reduced sound quality
- More expensive
- Not a universal standard that can be used with billions of appliances all over the world.

What benefit does removing the 3.5mm jack give us again? I can't think of any. Why is an iPhone without a 3.5mm jack better than one that does have a 3.5mm jack?

Having used bluetooth headphones for nearly 10 years, I must say that with multiple different pairs over the past 4 years, I've had no issue with delay and sound quality has been the same as inexpensive wired headphones.

So you can buy expensive headphones to rival the sound quality of inexpensive wired headphones.

Or you can, I don't know, spend the money on more expensive wired headphones with better sound quality, no batteries to charge, no pairing issues, and get a light more comfortable device.

The $250 Jaybird wireless headphones my brother in law uses for running sound like s**t compared to my $70 Bose SoundSports. Mine are also lighter, more comfortable, and stay in my ears better when running. I'd give up Apple before I'd give up my headphones.

I think you totally forgot that Apple supports wireless headphones for more than 6 years already.

Can't make it if you are being serious or sarcastic (gave up trying to figure it out around here) But yeah, bokeh of the image above is achieved by profesional cameras and obviously Apple is using purposely as a message of improved cameras. Not that I would expect phone cameras to achieve bokeh like that anytime soon.

I hope they introduce the iPhone upgrade program to the UK. That's the only way I see me getting this phone. I'm ready to embrace wirelessness.
