Truth is that all the other large phones are plastic and plastic is more resisting to bending than aluminium. Has nothing to do with 'truth' but simple facts. I love the 6+ and actually ordered one 5 minutes ago. Still, don't like to pretend that all of this is a non-issue, just because the Apple PR machine tells me so. Aluminium bends more easily than plastic or glass and I obviously have to adjust the way I handle my new phone. Period.

I am not saying that iPhone is a perfect phone to use for all circumstances. Obviously it's quite delicate but not fragile for day to day use. Obviously you won't bring your iPhone to warzone. But to say that all iPhone 6 has bending problem just by a slight force, is... really? That's way out of proportion and that's what media want us choose to believe.

I like that they use Windows XP still :p

Let's admit it—we're a really dumb society constantly in need of stimulation so we sensationalize all these lies. And the Internet (especially Facebook) amplifies everything.

The same argument could be made in support of those who argue here that Apple is without fault and this entire subject was created by a Samsung conspiracy.

My point being, it goes both ways.

On this forum, if something supports Apple then it's quite simply... FACT.

But if it in any way disparages Apple then it's a huge conspiracy perpetuated by stupid fat people and the media.

Seriously, the level of hypocrisy here is nuts.

I think it's great that Apple's doing this and trying to get ahead of the story but how much will it matter in the end? Those making a "gate" out of this will claim Apple's tests are flawed, standards aren't good enough, or they're not telling the truth, etc. and everyone will become an engineer overnight explaining all the things wrong with Apple's testing process.

I've worked in a calibration lab myself and bendboy trying to exert the same pressure to all the phones just won't cut it.

Agreed.

Whilst it was clear by his reaction the moto x was very solid in comparison, and plastic will bend and spring back whereas aluminium will generally bend and stay bent, link dinging a MacBook, it was totally unscientific and a shame, as even with household objects, he could of demonstrated a more repeatable test comparison.

It seems basically just 2 bars to rest te phone on, perhaps 10 or 15mm from the ends, and apply a force to the centre of the phone with a pad.

Screen up and screen down I would say.

If nothing else this should prove good for all of us consumers in te long run.

Even more so if they know someone is going to test thm after release and publish the results against oter phones they have tested.

Good news for us all. Well, apart from apple right now, as due to their case and cutouts, it looks like they might have one easiest to bend large phones, at that point on the case right now.

For those that trusts Apple's testing on the matter. Can the same be said for their software testing on 8.0.1 update?

It was about time someone talked about actual engineering procedures. The usual data-less verbal diarrhea was driving me nuts.

I'm a reliability engineer and this type of highly accelerated life testing is at the absolute top of the list in any engineer's design checklist. Design for reliability is up there with design for assembly and manufacturability.

From my perspective, this gives Apple an easy way to boast about their ridiculously well thought out product design.

'Bend-gate' - an easily fixed with just a good dose of honesty. Only if Apple released their warranty Pareto charts...

Thank you! I am not a reliability engineer but I desire the same thing. Give me the research, let me see the numbers and equations (stats stuff) and let me interpret the stats myself. I am quite capable. I am a firm believer of honest research where the conclusion of the hypothesis does not lie.

I sent this email to RIM CEO Jason Chen. Ill report back if he responds.

I should add that it if I can't bend it with my bare hands, I will switch from my iPhone to Passport for a year and blog about how great is is at least once a week.

Lol! Don't be surprised if you get a reply with the signature "Sent from my iPhone" :D :D

P.S.: Feels good to see Minneapolis :)

The problem is obvious. The test is inadequate.
They should have tested it in Rosie O'Donnell's back pocket.

If they do all this testing, why do they bend so easily? I guess the key assumption in Apple's argument would have to be that a very small number are defective and bend. Otherwise this doesn't make sense and inviting them to the facility was useless.

Isn't it obvious? People are either highly motivated to lie about what really happened or they simply do not recall. Do you remember every bend, squat, lean througout the course of a day? I bet not.

The whining from all the people who haven't even experienced the issue is ridiculous. Some are even returning their phones (or so they say). Give me a break.

As someone already said, time to put on the big boy pants and act like an adult.

Meanwhile, all the "journalists" are quietly preparing their back-pedalling stories, so as not to "lose face".

Apple has NEVER gone into damage control like this, they must be panicking hard at Cupertino

Back in 2010 social media and the internet in general was nothing like it is today. Heck The Verge didn't even exist in 2010. Apple can't just sit back and think this is going to go away.

Hah, dream on.

The world doesn't revolve around Apple, or how pliable the iPhone 6 is. It was reported, and well, turns out, the phone can indeed bend.

Will it happen to you? Or me? Likely not... but, there's no back peddling to do here, it's all fact. The rest of up to public perception.

In a week Kim Kardashian will slip and twist an ankle or something and before you know it, nobody will remember any of this.

I feel sorry for Apple, genuinely:

Do the wrong thing: Seen as "losing"

Do the right thing: Seen as "losing"

Have independent engineers run controlled tests.

And people will immediately accuse Apple of cherry-picking testers. Then the accusations become lies which become "facts" and some guy with a hat turned backwards will post a video on YouTube to rally all the bored, jaded people in the world.
