I agree. Phones are on 2 year contracts because the phone companies expect you to be able to get 2 years out of them before you have to get another one.
Yet rather than be happy your phone isn't outdated for a year and a half (in the case of the iPhone 4) which brings you closer to your upgrade eligibility, people are clamoring to upgrade every year or sooner! Crazy indeed.
no, the phones will just appear at AT&T stores one day with no warning.

I really need a new phone and fast, just hoping it's a redesign. The iPhone 4 is the only one I'm not feeling at all.
Good lord, you expect a drop from $400 to below $360?!? And enough of a drop to "pay off huge"!!! Yes, there will probably be a drop in Apple stock with the announcement of the 4S. Then there will be an increase in Apple stock as the mind crushing profits of the last quarter (selling the 4) begin to leak in advance of the late October report. I think it is almost at the level of predictable at this stage that the analysts and Apple stock watchers don't get it when Apple displays its new equipment.
But seriously, it would take a market crash of epic proportions to have Apple drop significantly below $360 and if that drop happened, your put might not be to an actually liquid company capable of satisfying the put obligation.
Basically, I think you just tossed some money in the bin.

Pretty sure I been doing turn by turn on my iPhone since the 3G iPhone came out...
If it were only a year since iP4 came out, then I would probably agree with your logic. But, since it will have been about 17 months by the time the next handset makes it to stores, there is a good chance for a redesign. And, with the issues of breaking glass back panels and antenna issues (both real and perceived), it increases the chances even more. We'll see in a week.
But I'm not an Android fanboy or any brand fanboy. I like many Apple products. I just tend to counter the Apple can do no wrong Steve is god mentality that is so prevalent here. I actually enjoy discussions with the rational members here, and there are many who fit that description.
I hope they do focus on the other products, I at least want a iPod Touch 5G with 512mb Ram and A5.
I'm thinking now they plan to release the GM on the day, and then 2 weeks later it'll ship to devices. Otherwise would it not be out by now?

Nope, at the moment, I only own the Android phone. Since I got it I've gone totally Apple though (iMac, MacBook Pro, iPad,
TV, iPod Touch). It'd be madness for me to get anything but this upcoming phone.While I've had some frustrations with my Apple products, I think that Android phone has given me more issues than all my Apple stuff combined. It goes back to HTC Heaven within a month, if I have anything to say about it.
Maybe you just go about it wrong. Like I said I'm just stating my observations based on your posts. I probably just haven't seen the post where you've had healthy discussions and don't sound like a ten year old, or maybe the ten year old-esque posts overshadow when you actually do have healthy discussions.
I don't consider myself an Apple fanboy either, in fact I don't even have an iPhone, I'm still trudging along with my original Droid and come upgrade time I will be getting another android phone.
I tend to counter those who feel the need to register for an Apple board and then insult people who actually like Apple. While I hate android fanboys more then anything, I don't have any accounts at any droid site where I'm there to tell them how stupid their OS is, and how stupid Google is. It just screams...dumb.
I don't think so. I think there WILL be two phones discussed... there has to be two phones sold. I think to take the iPhone 4 and drop the price to $99 would still be big news. I still think they're going to have a 4S and here's why --> the iPhone 4 is selling well for a reason. It is a gorgeous phone and is lightning fast. I think they want to still appeal to those who love that form factor but won't be turned off by buying last years tech. By still offering it but with soup-up innards, Apple will sell many of those who just won't quite like the look of the newest model. Case in point, many who bought the first iPhone stuck with it for quite a long time just because the 3G and 3GS just weren't as sexy. I was one of them.
About the invitation,... I think it was more like "We want to show 4 icons for Date Time and Place, but we need to draw the eye to the PHONE since that is the most important part of the message... it actually is all very clever, going from out to in --> Date first; Time of that date; Place to be (so to speak) and finally the What... the iPhone.
Simple but gets the job done.
To me most of your posting here really reminds me of this quote from Jay and Silent Bob strike back:

In a week we will all know. One of the biggest issues with society today is the need for immediacy. Life will go on if we don't know what Apple does for another week. At least I hope it will.
Next week at this time, we will all know and can buy it or not.
I am certainly looking forward to upgrading to a new iPhone, but the suspense isn't going to kill me.
If this is the most important thing in a person's life, that's pretty sad.
