Is everyone forgetting about the fact that the 10 year anniversary of the iPod is coming up? I wonder if that'll be covered in this event.

Since Jobs returned, Apple has been pretty much ignoring company and product anniversaries (or only mentioning them lightly). Does anyone think that this will change under Cook?

Read this:

Is Apple going to sell the iPhone 4 at $99 and the “iPhone 4S” at $199 alongside it? Nearly identical phones in terms of physical appearance? Someone walking into a store is going to have to choose between the iPhone with the faster processor and better camera and one with a slower processor and a still-great camera? Hardly. If there even is an actual iPhone 4S — one that’s sole purpose hasn’t been just for high-profile iOS developers to use a test sled for Apple’s new hardware that’s coming in the iPhone 5 — my bet is that it will replace the iPhone 4, but the iPhone 4S will still be the entry-level iPhone.

I think they have a point

Maybe there will be a holographic Steve, who says that he made the Apple campus for a reason none of us can understand yet. Apples task is to make great products, and Steve has pre-recorded keynotes for the next 10,000 years that will appear when the time is right to help guide us.

The one on the phone means

A single combined multi-carrier iphone -- no separate CDMA or GSM versions.

talking iPhones (hello siri + nuance)!

and turn-by-turn navigation! (map icon!!!)
Something Android has had for years and still has.

I am satisfied with my choice in electronics which at the moment means iOS for my mobile and I have NEVER been to an android related website which tells me that if you were indeed so happy with your choice of device you wouldn't feel the uncontrollable urge to troll in the competition's related forums.

Enjoy ur misery dbag. =)

The 1 badge has nothing to do with there being just one iPhone. They want everyone to think that this is the case so that when the true 5 is introduced, people will be even more excited about it because their expectations were lower.

This is what the phone icon with badge will end up meaning:

They do the presentation, introduce the iPhone 5 and the 4S. At the end, just before they are about to wrap up, everyone will hear the new voicemail alert sound. Whoever is presenting will play the voicemail, and it will be a quick recording from Jobs saying 'Just wanted to remind you to tell them about the amazing new Assistant feature'.

Only one phone. They can't make it much more obvious than the "1" indicator right above the phone. Anything else is just wishful thinking.

WS is NOT liking this invite as this it hints at reduced expectations re the HW.

WS doesn't like this invite because they cannot figure it out :D

I would have sent out a message "You're invited" with the four icons only. Anyone too stupid to attend would be left out.

I think the 1 probably means nothing - just some Apple designer enjoying watching us all trying to interpret it.

If anything, I think it just represents a notification - e.g., "you've got a message" which is what this invite is after all...

You guys are reading it all wrong:

Interstate (280) +

Tuesday (4) +

Ten AM Hour hand (10) +

Phone Notification (1) = 295

295 / Ten AM minute hand (12) = 24.6

24.6 / Ten AM second hand (12) = 2.0

So this means that there will be 2.0 Models released. The iPhone 4s and the iPhone 5.

Now this is a stretch...but, the 1 badge on the phone icon could mean....wait for it. 1 missed phone call. :)

The 1 in the phone icon is for a "missed" call ... so it represents the number of "missing" iPhone 5s by Apple employees. :)

4S or 5, I'm buying either way but I'm looking forward to hear when it'll come to Canada. Hopefully it'll be released by late October or early Nov by the latest and otherwise I'll may have to lineup in the snow.
