Maybe the "1" stands for the one and only...Steve Jobs, who will make a surprise appearance and announce the new iPhone.

That is the worst signal you can give to the people. Steve left, get used to it. Time for Time Cook to show his magic.

I'm still holding out for the PowerBook G5.

I heard it's coming in April.

A PowerBook G5 never really made sense, though. Even at 90 nm, it still generated a great deal of heat@1.5 GHz... and wasn't really any faster than the G4, unfortunately. That includes with the much faster FSB, memory controller and everything else. Plus the bus architecture was too power-hungry for a laptop application :(

I realize you were kidding, but I wanted to vent. I really wish there'd been a 2 GHz PB G5, lol. TOTALLY could have happened if they'd dropped to 65 nm

HOWEVER the Octo in October suggests that they're releasing EIGHT new models! :D

Dood, you're on the right track, but Oct. 4th means FOUR times EIGHT, which is like.... that's like 25 or even 30 different models!

OMG, I'm gonna die from overdose of anticipation!!!

And they could very well talk about:

4.) A New iTunes
5.) New iPods
6.) An additional New iPhone

They have to at least release a new version of iTunes (which has been in beta for a while now) to deal with iCloud/Wireless Sync. They will for sure talk about this.

Also, they will likely show off the new Music app on iPad during the iOS 5 portion.

talking iPhones (hello siri + nuance)!

and turn-by-turn navigation! (map icon!!!)

Don't read too much into the Map icon. If you notice that icon always depicted the Apple HQ location in Cupertino and it basically saying that the event is at Apple HQ Town Hall. I though wish they do include turn-by-turn navigation.

really people?

clock shows 10AM = events at 10AM
calendar shows Oct 4 = events on Oct 4
the map shows Apple's location = where the event is
the phone icon = they're talking about phone.

Don't you see! If you multiply the 4, the 10, and the 8 from Octo, then divide it by 5 from the 5th iteration of iPhone, then factor it into the following equation:

iPhone 5 specs = x

x =

(x / 42)
_______
10*(n)

where N is the number of BS iPhone 5 rumours you'll get the iPhone 5 specs.

Then you take the result and plug it into this equation:

lol = wtf x rofl / x

And you get the design of the iPhone 5.

Well seeing that the event is @10am im pretty sure thats Pacific time and not Eastern. So that means (for me at least , because im on Central Time), I will be watching the media event @ 12pm and it will be 1pm for those on Eastern Time. If the media event was 10am Eastern time, then they would be hosting the event in California @ 7am, which I think is highly unlikely, but you never know with Apple! Glad to be able to roll on to the next technology!

I think the '1' is a reference to Curly from City Slickers.
"Do you know what the secret of iPhone is?"
(holds up one finger)
"This"
"Your finger?"
"One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don't mean squat"
"But what is that 'one thing'?"
"That's what YOU have to find out"
