Can't say I've ever bought an ipod touch for the kiddos. Getting a used iphone, handing down one, etc was always the better deal.

People complain cos apple fans are getting tired of old spec upgrades and no design changes other companies are beating apple now days we won't even get 5g for another 18 months while others have it now
Considering the 5G rollout is still severely limited, if you don't live in or work in a few limited cities, not having 5G at this point is not an issue.

Oh please

Oh please. Outdated design, sub 720P display, no finger print sensor, single camera that probably same with last generation that is same camera from 2012. This price of crap worth $250 Canadian for 32GB.

On contray, you can buy an real phone with 1080P display, midrange processor, fingernpeinter sensor, dual camera for much less than $250. Slap a 128GB SD card, you get a devices much better than iPod Touch.

Apple is doing what they have done best, recycling old technology and charging premium.

I don’t care about face ID or touch ID. It is disappointing that they did not reduce the bezels given they clearly have the means to at this point, it is just an internals bump... also, why an A10? That’s an old processor considering they will release the A13 in a few weeks.

I still have my 5th Gen Video ipod with 2.5" screen and 30GB storage, had to look up when that was - 7 years ago.

I wonder how apple has improved the product 7 years later.

So has gone from 2.5" screen to a 4 inch screen - not too shabby

Has gone from 30GB of storage to 32GB storage - cheers from the audience.

Home button with no bio security - boo...

A 3.5mm headphone jack you say, wait are you sure this is 2019? - cheers from the audience

And yet..... you're on an Apple forum. And yet.... millions of these will sell. If people wanted a piece of crap Android for $250, they'd buy one - and there are people who do. For people who want better, Apple will be their choice.

Apple makes solid devices that last a long time that don't need bleeding edge technology to provide a far better user experience than most other devices, all the while not selling every action you do to every ad company willing to pay $.

This is a barebones product that they only updated so they could keep supporting it. They don't really care about the line but want to keep on selling it. Only cool part of this is that there is now an official 256GB flash iPod.

Greg Joswiak, Apple's Vice President of Product Marketing:
We're making the most affordable iOS device even better with performance that is twice as fast as before, Group FaceTime and augmented reality starting at just $199. The ultra-thin and lightweight design of iPod touch has always made it ideal for enjoying games, music and so much more wherever you go.

Apple's whole approach of making "affordable" products but taking some old components and putting them into even older containers. ( selling "last year's" XXX next to " the (couple ) year(s) before that" product with a reduced price and kneecapping a few features ). Is likely going to be bad long term.

The company's ability to sit down and say "let us make something good that is affordable over its whole Lifecycle" appears to be completely bankrupt. To ship out a 4 year old system (2015) with a 3 year old SoC ( 2016) really takes 2-3 years to get done ?

I've been thinking about iPods lately for the kids, as I don't want to have to spring for phones yet. The touch would have been perfect to get them for their needs. I just wish they could have introduced two features:

1) With the phones going to wireless charging capable, it would have been nice if the Touches went that way too. The kids charging their iPads have been the worst possible thing for our charging cords. There's probably cases available that offer it (I haven't looked) but would it have really killed Apple to include it in the Touch like in the Phones?

2) With the push into AR, it would have been nice to include a GPS. Apple only seems to include GPS in Cellular devices (except the Watch) so I assume it must be part of the cellular chip or antennas or something, and that's why they don't. But for the Watch, they had a standalone gps, so why can't the Touch support one? I'd love it for the "find the device my kid misplaced" to be a little more accurate than just "somewhere in range of this wifi network". Especially with something like the Touch, which isn't as easy to spot as say, their 9.7" iPads.

“New” is literally the first word in the press release.

This is Tim Cooke’s sad Apple. 3 year old processor slapped into a 10 year old design. Screen, Bluetooth, et al. are all from over half a decade ago.

Price remains the same.
This is not displayed on the website anywhere. It's a silent refresh to a product they don't sell many of. Put the pitchforks down, this isn't a big deal. This is basically a nothing product.

I should clarify, its not listed on the front page like every other new product. Its tucked away in the music section.

This product still makes sense for people with kids.
- Apple wants people to upgrade their iPhones with plans that involve taking their old iPhones back to the store. That leaves less phones to be passed down to kids
- most people now have Wi-Fi hotspot plans so their kids can get Wi-Fi away from home
- starting at 32 GB is not a problem for kids who, like my daughter, stream everything

for that price. Basically the same device with an older processor and $200 bucks for 32 go in 2019 sorry too much. $400 for 256gb in 2019, nope. About $100 too much at least, if the entry was $99 going to $299 maybe. C’mon Apple

Was hoping the ipod touch would get a true bezel less design with a larger screen & face ID and a much better camera...but this update is kinda what i realistically expected. Especially after the ipad mini update. A Speed bump and not much else.

Not everybody wants or needs an iphone. I think an ipod touch paired with a cellular ipad makes a great travel combo. I would have loved to see Apple really push the ipod touch update tho. In particular for travel photographers by giving it at least a two lens camera. But that would have been wishful thinking.

I imagine the ipod is not going to get another update for another 4 years if ever. This very well could be the last ipod we ever see again.

They could have improved the camera, a small bump not something huge, and used a more recent chip considering it won't be updated for long if ever.

Apple seems to be drawing a line in the sand with the A10. It appears that if you have an iDevice with an A10 or higher, you should be good for the next 3 years (maybe more).
