Did you guys notice? (maybe I'm dumb)...

There is also $50 dollars off all Macs bought with this offer.

Seems good! :D [although I don't live in the US :p]

EDIT: You actually get good discounts depending on the products you buy!! Great! - 2.4GHz MB = $100 off.

Did they do this last year?

For all those that recently ordered their Mac computer on the education discount sans promo, there is hope! My sister just ordered hers several days ago, so I decided to call Apple and see what they could do for me. I spoke with a representative and after about 5 minutes he came back on the phone with me and told me he could offer me the iPod Nano 16gb or the iPod Touch, completely waived of any costs under the exception policy. I <3 Apple.

Already have a Classic that I Still love.......what should I do?

I'd REALLY like a touch, but I'd hate to give up my 80 gigs. I hate to seem selfish and keep both......even though I want to very much. Would it be worth it to fork up an additional $170 for the 32 gig and then part with my Classic?

Anyone that purchased during the BTS last year could you tell me if it was a mail in rebate or instant rebate please. I wanna go there today but not sure if i have enough to actually purchase the ipod and do a mail in rebate...any help is appreciated thanks!

I got the Macbook/touch at the Apple store last year. The rebate check in came in the mail, maybe 10 days later. But I didn't have to mail anything in; they took care of it at the store.

It's better than last year as last year they did not include the iPod classic in the promo at all.

I meant not as good as last year in terms of the rebate amount.

Retarded being, I could've gotten a free iPod, if I waited one more month.

Retarded being, you didn't do the research.

Who are you again?

Not the retarded one, obviously.

My grad school student ID for a participating school expires in 2010 (however I no longer have access to school email address). If you purchase in the store do you just need a student ID (if so I'm ok)?

Basically, how do they validate that you're a student? Is it possible without a school email address? I'd like to just buy online but not sure if that will happen if I need a school email address.

And naturally I won't be able to take advantage of it because my financial aid won't be dispersed until at least Sep 20th or so. Come on Apple, you know colleges aren't that fast to give you you check!

Ah well. I'll just wait, save up, and get the third gen Touch instead.

i am actually excited for a different reason-Apple has made my decision to wait on buying an ipod Touch a no-brainier. I was planning on getting one fairly soon but now that this deal has come and that it appears that they are gonna try and get rid of as many ipods as possible is a fairly good indication to me that I should definitely wait on getting one untill September.

They're not losing $229. That's the retail price, not what it costs them to make it.

What he means is that Apple can afford to loose out upto $229 on the sale because they aren't making money off it. So therefore, the profit of the Mac covers the cost of the iPod.

Obviously, you can also make money back because you can sell the iPod too if you need to. Everyone's a winner. Apple in alot of ways because they get to clear out stock and technically, still make money, just not as much.

and the iphone 4g?

back2school? u mean summer school? cuz i just got out

they typically start it in late may so recent college grads can have one last chance. I think they said your 'student' status would be good until May 31 if you were a senior in college.

and I don't get why anyone expected the phone to be included. it never is on any discounts cause of the ATT thing.

No announcements here in Mexico for back to school promotions. At least not so far.
Hope during the next weeks...
I don't recall when they had the promotions starting here last year, though...

The actual discount on the hardware exists year round. It is actually a reduced % discount than in years past.

To add to this:
Apple also uses the iPod Promo to get rid of old stock so in reality the price to make the product is much lower than it was at the price they started. (So the profit hit they take isn't that much considering the profit they make on selling older computer hardware plus the whole notion of the rebate and incentive probably sells more computers than they would normally to college students).

Just purchased mac

I just recently purchased a 24 inch iMac from the educational store about 2 weeks ago. I JUST got my mac today and when I opened up Safari, obviously the page that it was opening up to was the main apple page. I saw the free ipod touch offer with a purchase of a mac so I decided to give customer support a call. I spoke with a representative and he said that he wouldn't honor me the free ipod touch BUT he offered me a one time exception to receive a iPod nano of any color and any size free of charge. So he placed an order for a 16 GB blue ipod nano. I just wanted to let those of you know about this if you ordered a mac recently from apple. Hey its better than nothing!:)

I am planning on getting a new Mac this summer, and am in college, so I'll totally take advantage of this... however I have an iPhone so I don't want the iPod. Do you think Apple will let me just take $229 off of the computer purchase? Or can I just sell it back to them and still get the mail-in rebate?

Is it possible to use the 229 dollar rebate to get the 32 gig touch for 229 dollars off?
(I know this is probably a silly question)

The deal isn't a discount on a computer. It's a rebate on an iPod if you buy a computer. Your best bet is to sell the iPod and keep the money.

That's the education discount. It is always going on. Not just during this promo.

well, yeah, no iphone. they'd have to go through too much red tape b.s. with at&t over it. but any deal to get a better price on the computers is a great one. eat it up, kiddos!

sell it on craig's list or ebay, use the $$ to buy the iphone.

So, I have been waiting all spring for this Back to School Promotion to buy my first MacBook. Now that it is so close to the WWDC, should I wait a few more weeks to see if the MacBooks get a bump in their specs? Should I finally reward myself now with a new computer? What do you all think?

any guesses when this campaign will hit the UK? schools don't start until sept and colleges late august but the big question is how long to apple start this before that time?

That is great that they let you use the discount on all the models. I was going to make a post asking this question yesterday-- good thing I waited. It is a moot point anyways seeing as my next Macbook will be bought with the ACD Student Discount... haha. Was still curious!

What's the time frame on this back-to-school special?

I just bought a house, but the closing date isn't until July 14, therefore, I can't spend large amounts of money until that date...
