What's the time frame on this back-to-school special?

I just bought a house, but the closing date isn't until July 14, therefore, I can't spend large amounts of money until that date...

It ends September 8. Even if you didn't want to wait until July you could surely use a credit card to hold the balance until you have the cash to pay it off in July without losing a dime.

So... no MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac or iPod refreshes until at least 14 days (Apple's return/exchange policy) after Sept. 8?
Making the earliest one could expect a refresh to those products Sept. 23?

Hmmm.

I'm not sure if this has been answered or not, but I did this promo last year in late-june and I'm looking to get another Mac here in a week or so.

My question is do I need to wait for 365 from my last purchase with promotion or is it one purchase per promotion? If that made any sense.

I've heard that you can have one purchase per year, I'm just not sure if that is a 365 day "year" to the date of last purchase with promo or if it per academic year (like say one for the 2008-2009 and one for the 2009-2010, but within 265 days).

Any clarification on this? Thanks!

Good way for Apple to get rid of inventory before an impending update and get college students using ipods while on campus (can't imagine they dont already have one at this point)

On another note, where are all the anti-rebate folks who were up in arms about the Pre offering a rebate? Apple could just hand these out without having buyers go through an online rebate completion or are they too hoping many dont bother with completing the process?

Is it possible to use the 229 dollar rebate to get the 32 gig touch for 229 dollars off?
(I know this is probably a silly question)

Last year I got a macbook pro and did that to get the 16gb itouch - and just had to pay the difference between the rebate and the itouch.

By the way, last year, the educational discounts were much better. $200 off the macbookpros, $100 off the macbooks.

So, I have been waiting all spring for this Back to School Promotion to buy my first MacBook. Now that it is so close to the WWDC, should I wait a few more weeks to see if the MacBooks get a bump in their specs? Should I finally reward myself now with a new computer? What do you all think?

they won't update the macbooks, so you should go ahead and buy it now. this typically is one of the ways for apple to clear out current stock as they look forward to updating in sept/oct/nov in time for xmas sales. buy now and you'll get the longest life out of the computer you buy possible.

iPod Touch or 120 Classic

It seems as though I have the same thinking as many others do, in wanting to get the free iPod, then sell it on e-bay or Craigslist or something.

With how many touches that will soon be flooding the resell market might I be better getting a Classic and trying to sell that? What is the resellability of a 120 Classic? Do they sell well/quickly/easily? Or would I be better off competing against a bunch of touches?

I received my mac just 28 days ago, any chance they would allow me the deal? It was an education store purchase (legit).

Same boat as you my friend. Bought my first iMac (new ones with ATi 4850) and I told myself to wait after seeing the original iPhone users get screwed (major price drop after their 30 day warranty was up) and I didn't listen to myself and got myself screwed out of a free iPod. Gotta love how Apple treats early adopters. But then again, this one was my own damn fault in a way because I sort of expected this from Apple and didn't listen to my conscience.

apple will include the "new" iphones in the deal when they are released. right now apple is already clearing inventory for the new ones. if they announced back to school with the current iphones they would probably run dry with all the increased sales from the promo. apple doesn't want to run out of inventory and have nothing to sell... so when the new iphones are released they will be included in the promo. i remember working during back to school season at the apple stores and man was it painful. you would constantly miss your goals for applecare, one-to-one, procare, etc. there is no time to talk to customers because it is so busy, so if you bring this stuff up the customer would think you are just trying to "add it on" which we were, because apple expects you to sell it. because the stores were so busy the customers would like to just get in and get out. some customers wouldnt even enter the stores because they were so busy. advice, come early in the morning. weekends are a no-no. seriously, back to school season was aweful. same with holiday seasons. dont miss those days. like i said, new iphone will be included in promo.

Just brought a MacBook a week ago, so I call the Apple store and they said as long as it was within the 14 day return period I can still get the deal. I'm happy I tried :).

30 days!

IF you are a college student and you purcahsed a Mac within the last 30 days, you can go back to the store and still get the free ipod. This goes for ALL Apple promo's, btw. :)

That and the iPod Touch 8GB was $299 at the time. I got the high-end White Macbook in June last year (bumped to a 250 GB HD, which I just bought a 500 GB to replace) and it only ended up costing me ~$1600 with Apple Care, the Touch and All-in-one printer. ($400 worth of stuff for free after getting the Mac I was going to buy anyway, can't beat that!)

Rebate checks were sent less than a week after I received the items and filled out the online forms, and it was only a few days later that I got them. I wish all rebates were like that :)

How do you know this? My campus store directed me to Apple and I'm calling Apple tomorrow. I'm just over the 30 days, but the sales guy at the campus store said the promo would start in August. Thats why I rushed it. I'll keep everyone posted.

Interesting....

I have taken advantage of this promotion before. In the past, the list of qualifying products always included specific model numbers of computers and ipods......I noticed that this time it is much more general and has the names of the products only. I wonder why the change in fine print??

Any computer but the Mac Mini and refurbs qualifies and I think it has always been that way (though with the addition of the 17" iMac last year also not being eligible). Even computers that come out during the promo are eligible. It is just the iPods that are limited to old versions even if they are updated near the end of the promo.

If you want to check the old pdf take a look here.

As opposed to years in the past, they have started the promo in Europe now as well. Roughly 185€ rebate on an iPod.

This is the same great deal from last year. That is how I got my iTouch.

Only complaint of course, is the newer iTouch will come out after the BTS deal is over (like last year). :(
