a new, distinct form factor, new materials, an even more robust design. the 5 was a stretched 4s, just like the x evolves the design from the 7. but it‘s the same basic design language, not like the changes between the 3gs and the 4 or between the 5s and 6. personally I prefer the period in the middle. Not as huge as nowadays, no camera bumps, and a design that shows personality. Since the 6, they are still perfectionist, good looking phones, but a bit bland, imho. to bring out the old car analogy: the 4-5s were deloreans, the 6 is a tesla model 3 - curves, but no edges.
What does distinct form factor mean? There’s only so many ways to go with a smartphone which is why they all kind of look similar now. Apple did try colored plastic and people hated it. The tech press hated it because they’ve decided anything not metal isn’t premium. Apple has used aluminum, stainless steel, glass and plastic. What other materials are there to use?

You're exaggerating. However, garbage sound quality, limited battery life, limited range and having to remember to charge batteries for HEADPHONES is a real problem.

I don't know how some of you put up with all of that.
I would have been with you, right up until I tried airpods.

I thought all bluetooth headphones audio stunk. I thought the airpods had a terrible look and were pricey. I thought they'd fall out, and that I'd lose them.

But I got frustrated always getting headphone wires caught on something and yanking the earphones out of my ears. All the other bluetooth sets I've used, including those popular LG ones with the band that goes around your neck. Audio terrible, battery life terrible.

Tried the airpods and now when I occasionally have to use wired headphones because I left the airpods at home or something it feels like a major step backwards. The audio is just as good as wired earpods, they don't fall out of my ears, and I've not misplaced them once. Ive never had a situation where I needed to use them and they weren't charged, thanks to the charging case.

You mentioned range? I've left my phone in the house and gone out into the backyard without losing signal. Just the fact that I can wander away from the phone at all sets it apart from wired headphones.

I may sound like a commercial here, but I'm just saying I was as skeptical as you, but now I don't ever want wired headphones again, and hence, have zero need of a headphone jack.

Not sure I want a phone called iPhone XS. Tacky. I'll probably go for the X if the price drops significantly.

Rubbish!! BeatsX have the best sound in ears can offer. I’ve never heard so high quality audio from cabled in ears like Shure and the like...See specialists’ reviews to learn something yourself...8 hours battery non stop and with half an hour charge you are back to 100% battery!!! Unbelievable range, no hiccups in a 3 floor house ALL around!!! You write rubbish without knowing anything! You are stuck to 80s with your cables in pocket!! Enjoy!!..
ill stick with my jaybird freedoms :p the sound quality is amazing. with the app you can change the eq. but ya. bluetooth is a game changer especially if you do anything physical. Wired is ok for laying in bed I guess.

they will more than likely discontinue the X. Get it while you can.
If you are choosing a phone because of the name then I have no words

This is a good naming system, starting of next year they would release iPhone 11 and 11s then year after 12 and 12s and so on. the s version is the premium device while the other one is the budget phone.

You would not buy a phone because of the name? Remember, it's not the iPhone "exe", it's the iPhone "Ten". So it would be "iPhone Ten S". That isn't very weird strange.

Yes the name was poorly chosen. They should keep it simple and call it X 6.5'' and X 5.8'' as they do with the iPad Pros. XS sounds tacky and is prone to mispronunciations and jokes. If no major innovations are coming with the new models I rather get the X.

The X will likely be discontinued just like the 5 was when the 5S came out. Assuming Ming's prices are accurate and the Xs will start between $800 and $900 then I don't think there will be a niche for a carryover X to fill. It would need to be priced between $700 and $800 which would put it right in the cross-hairs of the new 6.1" LCD device.

Basically a $750 X would cannibalize sales of both the new Xs and the LCD devices.

Right? I never understand the people that are "disappointed in the form factor..." after each release. It's a rectangle you hold. That's it. Probably always will be.

Well look how much talk it has generated just on this site. And we'll all still tune in two weeks from now as well.

Really the talk here and elsewhere is miniscule compared to the number of units they expect to sell. Most people don't give a hoot about a few images. They want to know specs and costs.

Fully agree. Biggest benefit for me is doing conference calls whilst not having got carry the phone with me. I walk around my office, type on my computer, lie down, whatever without having to worry. I’ve bought them as presents for other people and they love them as much as myself. I then bought a pair for my cleaning lady, she loves them because she can now clean talk on the phone at the same time. I left mine in a hotel once when travelling, I had to go back to wired until they were sent back. Like you say it was like going back in time.

Yes, they did!!

It was a pet peeve of mine to hear people say "Mac OS Ex" -- and I heard it plenty, so in that way, it was good they finally ditched it and went with simple macOS.

Same for "iPhone X"- I hear it called "iPhone Ex" more often than you might imagine.

Hey, at least it's not "iTouch" or "iWatch".

I think the next iPhone i buy will have to have USB C, they'll have to make the change sooner or later, plus it makes sense when you look at the macbook, macbook pro, and imac pro..

USB-C makes absolutely no sense as a Lightning replacement. It's an inferior connector. It makes absolute sense as a replacement for both USB-A and Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort.

I wonder what compelling feature it will have. I have no reason to updated my X it's awesome.

Good for you. I have every reason to update my 6.

'XS' = Excess. Which I would interpret as the phone will cost a lot more $$$$$
Absolutely, guess they didn't think of this when beginning the "S" naming years ago. Ironically, the X should be getting a lower price this year, so I guess the Plus model will be the new excess.

People are living a good life when 90% of the posts in this thread consists of complains about how stupid the naming schemes is in a post about leaked images of the new iPhone models.

When you read through these comments it almost seems like the name of the phone is massively important for most people and some kind of deal-breaker...

Who cares about the name? It's not even displayed on the phone itself, the back only says iPhone... Why take this so personally? Does it even matter in the end? Will it affect your desire to get the phone, will it affect the total amount of sales? Not at all....
Totally agree with you on this!!!!

"Leaked" yet no details on how it leaked. Apple intentionally does this stuff all the time.
Without any evidence myself, I absolutely believe they periodically leak news/future plans, but in visual form and so close to their event, this looks like an employee-level leak. Steve would not have been happy.
