They're just names. Regardless of what's stuck at the end, you'll all still call it your iPhone at the end of the day so less of the moaning please.

I remember many years ago, at the very start of the iPhone craze when everyone was looking for the "iPhone killer" there was an android phone(s) that used the word "max" in their titles...must of been when large phones were still often referred to as phablets.

For me, these are what the names should have been

iPhone Xc
iPhone X
iPhone X Max

No way C - the 5c was a truly embarrassment for Apple - old technology & spec based on the year before iPhone, cheap plastic, poor seller. Why repeat that. C was a very poor product. People were not impressed with it. Drop that name and bury it!

I don't care what they come up with as long as we don't have to listen to Jonny talking design rubbish at 50% speed.

Not a fan of the naming scheme.

I though iPhone X was only cause of the 10 years anyways ?
I suspect Apple may start to use the term "iphone X" to denote the iPhone with the notch design. Moving forward, subsequent iterations of this design would use "iPhone X" as a base, rather than just "iPhone".

So in subsequent years, we might see something like iPhone X2, X2S, X3 and so on.

Like how up to the phone 8, it was really just iterations of the basic iPhone design. Display, home button, etc.

Get over it guys. Today you are being offered a very very nice range of iPhones. Be grateful in life! Why bitch over product names when YOU have ZERO control over them??? Maybe study for a Masters in Marketing, get five years experience in the field and then offer your CV to Apple? Until then, just enjoy today!
Shame that some people are never satisfied.

What? All iPhones have retina displays. Apple has never used ‘r’ before to indicate retina. Xs Max sounds like some Verizon exclusive Droid phone. These names are dumb. Clearly Apple marketing is overthinking this. I’ll be interested to hear Ken Segall’s take.
Well, starting with last year, Apple referred to the iPhone X as having a super-retina display.

So it seems that any LCD display used by Apple is technically a retina display, while any OLED display would be considered a super-retina display.

And since the iPhone Xr uses a glass LCD display, it seems to fit. So what I guess Apple will do is first introduce the iPhone Xr, then position the iphone Xs and Xs Max as premium alternatives to the Xr (boy, that was a handful to type!).
