Apple Lost Another 4th Generation iPhone? New Photos of Prototype iPhone

All this talk About Apple intentionally leaking info this way is getting totally prepostorous. do you really think Apple would intentionally let the authorities ransack Gizmodo offices or lose iphones in Vietnam to market the iPhone?

It's time some people get a bit in touch with how the real world works.. These things were lost or smuggled out of a factory and someone found them. Nothing more than that.

I'm looking forward to the WWDC just to see how Steve handles the iPhone reveal. It's going to be impossible to build suspense and everybody is going to be laughing when they make the reveal (that is, unless, Apple is about to fool everybody).

Either way, I think the design is very attractive and I can't wait to get the white 64GB version for myself ;).

As mentioned earlier (when the 'Gizmodo' phone was taken apart) the borders around the LCD panel are slightly larger, in all directions (like 1 mm). As you may notice when comparing a 3G/S iPhone to this one, the spacing above and beneath the speaker grill is also slightly larger. The phone itself has approximately the same dimensions however. This leads to my assumption the LCD panel is a 3.4" one. The only reason for using a smaller panel is that production facilities in China already pump out these parts in volume. Common pixel count for the 3.4" size is currently 720x480. Apple would be crazy not to use this option, and save a boat load of money at the same time (word in the street is the part is 30% cheaper than the 3GS LCD). The Meizu display is a low-quality (specced at 16k colors) one, but I see no problems for Apple having a high-quality (65k or 262k colors) part produced with further identical specs. Apart from that, the 'competition' uses displays up to 960x480. Sticking with 480x320 for the 4th generation will look like a step back...

Thank you for the thoughtful insight. If you're right that's too bad - I was hoping for that "double" resolution screen previously rumored...but this 720x480 rez makes more sense for a 3.4" screen.

You wanna know if it's that new chip which can do all 4 network types at once?

Sure, why not. Inquiring minds what to know.

Do the radios work? Anyone have a spectrum analyzer laying around to do some testing? Do any of the chips have a big Q on them?

Slide

If it is possible to slide the bottom of, my guess would be that it is only used for the prototype iPhone, simply to be able to change the internals for different tests.

Front faced camera

My guess is that the final version will have subtle changes. Ex. the front facing camera will not be as visible. I mean its possible to hide the camera behind the dark glass of both MacBooks and iMacs, so why should it be visible on the iPhone?

The camera isn't hidden behind dark glass on the laptops. There is clear glass in front of the camera lens, and in direct light you can see it very clearly.

the individual who submitted the images to us stated a Vietnamese businessman had bought it in the U.S.

Bought it from some guy who 'found' it in a bar. ;)

The seams could simply be clip points to secure addons such as game controllers or even (gasp) keyboards.

I predict Jobs will show off addons such as a glucose analyzer.

The docking port is the primary feature that the iPhone has over other devices.

Now that would open up a whole new world of endless possibilities of third party attachments. A diabetes monitor is something I would never have thought of.

Thats my thought. Maybe the two black lines are some sort of antenna?

What sort of antenna?

Maybe the sides are squeeze buttons, you squeeze the entire side and it goes in. The breaks are to give room for the side to move in.

Breaks on side= camera application in landscape.
Breaks on both sides= Both ways (wasn't Jobs going on about how every app should function no matter what orientation).

"You've lost ANOTHER submarine?" comes to mind here. :)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

This prototype has already been floating around in the wild for awhile. Pictures of it appeared online around the same time as Gizmodo was launching thier now famous piece. In fact I believe photos of this phone showed up first and discounted as fake but then were later revisited after the whole Gizmodo thing. Just like now, the phone was almost identical to the one Gizmodo got thier hands on in every way except it lacked the screws on the bottom. I can't remember off hand which site I read this on but I remember looking at side by side comparison shots of the two devices. If anyone can find a link, please share.

Mission Impossible iPhone

Apple must have planted a self destruct bomb, some how it didn't manage to explode in the Viet's hand after the message...
:D

Apple publicity stunt.

16GB model? Seriously?
The new standard should be 32 and 64, but they know what they're doing, they know there are suckers that will buy these up at 16G base models.

I guess they want people to keep up with the Jones' every 6 months or so and pay for a newer phone, not me, no thanks. Savin' my coin for awhile.

My thoughts exactly! Especially if it's a guy I find it kind of scary :S One I had a colleague who had a really long nail on his pinky, and he used that to push the tabacco down while rolling a cigarette... We (both my male as well as my female colleagues) were constantly complaining about his really long nail and that he really ought to clip it off, but he just smiled and never did... Good on him then, with his scary long nail

In Greece, educated men used to maintain one long fingernail, usually the pinky, to show they were not blue collar workers. Who can dig ditches with a long fingernail.
