The thing looks like a brick compared to the lines of the older phones. I wonder if that's only on the prototype models, as I would think they are working on functionality more than aesthetics in a prototype.
I doubt it.

After all, we're talking about Steve Jobs and Apple.

You can't leave your toys out Apple, some other kid might pick them up and start playing with them

jesus...when will people accept that this is what the new iPhone will look like?

the phone comes out in a month, the new iPhone has already been manufactured and produced in mass quantities. they aren't still playing with designs and prototypes.

Yes, I agree!

The exciting thing about this phone announcement is that it might be available immediately. The production must cause major security problems, as opposed to withholding availability until months after the announcement.

So to me this looks pretty awesome. I know people dont like the seam etc

How are Apple going to top it in the future feature wise i.e. next year??

Bumping up memory is one thing but what else can we expect?? It does look pretty much a great and complete phone to me

Honestly, it looks pretty clunky to me. I was expecting something more sleek than this. If Verizon gets them then I will get one. If not, looks like its the Droid incredible for me.

The 'seams' as everyone is refering to them are simply design elements to help determine orientation without looking at the device. No sliding panels, its a sealed unit.

The Break at the top helps you to identify the location of the headphone socket by touch alone, useful in the dark and for blind users.

LOL I don't think blind folks will be interested in a touchscreen device!

Can't they post some uber-macro of the screen? I bet we can make pictures of some screen so we can count pixels and measure the length with some ruler and do the math... Come ooooon!

Funny

What would be hilarious is if these were prototype models that Apple didnt like and they leaked them on purpose and the new iPhone 4 is really completely different. So at WWDC he unveils a completely different phone and everybody is blown away.

Now if a professional hacker will change Apple's homepage to say "iPhone, coming in the middle of June 2010," and then immediately call all the media companies and tell them to look at Apple's homepage, Steve Jobs will ... :D ;)

Wasn't too impressed with the redesign until I saw these pictures of the 4G phone next to the 3GS. Had no idea it was that thin.

Don't know about the resolution, but I hope it's an OLED screen.

Could be, judging by the blacks in this picture.

let's hope to hell it's not then.

super amoled on the other hand i hope, but judging from the color alone, it's safe to say it looks like a tried and true led backlit lcd.

How long after the WWDC does the iphone usually take to hit the shelves?
On average, a couple of weeks, I believe.

Last year, it was unveiled at the keynote address on Monday 8 June 2009. It did not ship until the following Friday 19 June 2009.

There were some rumors speculating that the new iPhone would go on sale the same week of the WWDC (Monday June 7 is the keynote), but this would be different from Apple's previous history.

Frankly, I think Friday the 18th or the 25th would be more likely ship dates.

from the beginning

I have believed this from the beginning…its all been strategically planned.
I think Apple has been letting stuff out to draw attention from the possible BIGGER Surprise @ WWDC, that its going to be on Verizon here at the end of the year. Some people might not agree with me on this, but it's a classic misdirection strategy, so they have everyone so focused on the pics of the 4th Gen iPhone, that it seems less credible that anything will happen with Verizon yet…But thats just my 2 cents.

I personally think there is a place for a 16GB model. If the cost of flash wasn't so low I'd say an 8gb model could even work... but there's no sense since 8gb and 16gb chips are probably the same price these days. I say this because the iPhone has become more mainstream and you're seeing mothers and even grandparents owning them these days. I saw a guy at a restaurant about 2 weeks ago that had to be pushing 80 on one. The point I'm trying to make is these people are unlikely to ever put mp3's, let alone video on their iphone. For this "market" of people having a lower capacity phone and the lower price that comes with it may bring these people through the doors. For the rest of us we'll gladly pay a bit extra for the capacity.

The other reason for the 16gb (IMO) is due to it being a subsidized phone tied to a contract they can use a "cheaper" phone and advertise "FREE IPHONE" with contract. Almost as a loss leader which they may try to upsell a higher capacity phone when you walk in the door.

This looks perfectly in tune with the iPad design and the naming "iPhone HD": It is sharper and more clear.

The sharp corners of the USB cable that comes with the iPad gave away their design direction ;).

I personally dig the clear cuts and the chrome bezel going away.

No disrespect but are you an idiot.

Its easy to find the headphone socket, even with your eyes closed.

Feel for the home button. "Its on the front"

The headphone socket is at the other end.

"No disrespect". and then you have the balls to call me an idiot.... Not everyone has the same manual dexterity. They are making a positive design choice that makes it very clear which way up the device is and where the headphone jack should go.

It's lovely that you like stroking your phone so much you can insert your tiny jack in the headphone socket without looking. Quite frankly i'd rather go blind that entertain your rhetoric any longer.

Still could be a big publicity stunt from Apple. They are drawing all attention to this leaked phone and backing it up with letters from lawyers etc demanding it back so everyone assumes it is legit.

I would love it if Steve pulled out this exact phone at WWDC and then said ...hang on....just ONE MORE THING, this isnt the real iPhone 4G and whips out something totally different lol :D

Either way I love the look of this phone and if it is the real deal I hope that it comes with a colour choice. I've had the black 3G and I have the white 3GS at the moment and I love the white :)
