Smaller screen (don't care even if it's higher resolution, I don't need more eye strain and smaller screen means less room period) and no 64 gig (which honestly, I'm in the camp that if that is a real prototype and 16 gig it strongly points to probably no 64 gig).

I'm starting to think I may be very disappointed. So far haven't seen any new features that I think are super great over the 3Gs and it looks like there is at least one thing *worse* (smaller screen) and one thing they won't upgrade I was hoping they would (memory size).

I really hope they do surprise me with a 64gig cause the smaller screen is already a minus and I was hoping they'd have enough other snazzy stuff to make up for it. It appears I may be smarter to hold off on this one even though I really am ready for a new toy :(. I was kinda excited about getting video and a better camera but neither of those are really enough to justify a new phone especially if it has a smaller screen.

Not really...

Look at the 1st Gen iPhone from the side:
original_iphone_set_2t.jpg

People would be sh¡tting bricks today saying that the back was soooo un-Apple like that the AL didn't cover the whole back.

I kinda like the seam on the sides of the 4th Gen... It's a little bit of a nod to the original IMO. I do not like the seam on the top though....

Seeing this pic makes me wonder, is all the RF in that end? Or just the antennas? Just the cell front end in the 'seamed' section? (and I mean in the new one)

I'd like if the final product looked like this mock up. Similar but more refined looking IMO.

If we count the four "."s and three ":"s as only two "real" characters (i.e. characters of decent width) then that's a total of 24 "real" characters rendered in 40% of the screen width, i.e. about 61 characters across the whole screen. If this was the old 320 pixel screen width then that's about 5.25 pixels per "real" character and to me, looking at the numbers, there's no way it's that few pixels per character. At 480 pixel width it's about 8 pixels per "real" character and at 640 pixel width it would be about 10.5 pixels per "real" character.

Good lord, you can see the bloody serifs on the text! It's a higher res screen, no doubt about it.

I will not buy a new iPhone until it has at least 64 GB of flash installed. Like many of you, I was hoping that this would happen with the June model, but at this point it seems HIGHLY unlikely. :( We've now seen a 16 GB model which implies a 16 / 32 GB only offering. It also appears that the new phone still only has one flash memory slot, and since 64 GB flash prices have remained high and even gone UP the last year or so, I cannot see Apple offering a very high price 64 GB model. It would just be too expensive in today's market.

I'll keep my fingers crossed here, but Apple has always tried to keep the prices of their high / low end models similar between years, and 64 GB modules are not even close to the cost that 32 GB modules were last year, so to me the odds are very slim we'll see a 64 GB model, since it would probably cost $1000 unsubsidized.

Why are people thinking that there's not going to be a 64GB model because there's a 16GB model out there? It makes sense for Apple to have more options for the people that don't want to spend more money. I think they will have 16/32/64 GB models at 199/299/399 (subsidized) price points.

Also, there more that thing is sitting next to a 3GS, the more I like it. That thing is super sleek looking. I like. :D

It is not about looking like "on its own". The photos so far of the iPhone HD make it fall inline perfectly with the general aesthetic of the other products Apple currently offers; The unibody MacBooks, the iPad, and now the iPhone HD.

Heads will roll!

I need those secrets fresh and protected! If not, everything else is anti-climatic. I will not be surprised if Jobs doesn't have a "special" room just to beat the violators of company policy.

I can't believe people are bitching about this "smaller screen" have you guys seen the side by side with the 3GS? if it is smaller it's not even noticeable!

I am pretty sure the iPhone 4G has a screen resolution higher than the current iPhone's 320x480.

I tried to get text looking as sharp as the text from the Vietnamese YouTube video and on a 320x480 canvas I couldn't do it.

The rumors suggest that the next iPhone will have a 640x960 resolution.

I don't know it y'all noticed but the sim card slot on the side didn't look flush to me......anyone see that? It could be that it wasn't pushed in all the way, maybe....

It starts at 1:16 into the video.....have a look

The 'seams' as everyone is refering to them are simply design elements to help determine orientation without looking at the device. No sliding panels, its a sealed unit.

The Break at the top helps you to identify the location of the headphone socket by touch alone, useful in the dark and for blind users.

M.

Agreed.

This is the exact same reason why steering wheels on cars are not perfectly circular. It's so the blind know when they are driving straight ahead.

I have a feeling this is going to feel really great in your hand - a bit like the touch V iPhone.

Looks like someone from Apple has contacted vBulletin / the host of that website to take down the forums.

"No disrespect". and then you have the balls to call me an idiot.... Not everyone has the same manual dexterity. They are making a positive design choice that makes it very clear which way up the device is and where the headphone jack should go.

It's lovely that you like stroking your phone so much you can insert your tiny jack in the headphone socket without looking. Quite frankly i'd rather go blind that entertain your rhetoric any longer.

Surely the nice, big sleep button on the top of the phone is easier to 'feel out' than a tiny gap in the bodywork? That's how I handle it when the phone's in my pocket right now, works like a charm.

sorry, but i'm with the other guy.

"not everyone has the manual dexterity" ... so they can feel tiny little smooth seams vs. a big honkin' round home button?

your entire argument doesn't make any sense at all. AT ALL.

the phone already has distinctive "feel" landmarks on all its sides... and yet somehow tiny little SEAMS are what people will feel?

yup, retarded.
