Why are people thinking that there's not going to be a 64GB model because there's a 16GB model out there? It makes sense for Apple to have more options for the people that don't want to spend more money. I think they will have 16/32/64 GB models at 199/299/399 (subsidized) price points.

Also, there more that thing is sitting next to a 3GS, the more I like it. That thing is super sleek looking. I like. :D

Well, it's not JUST the fact that the prototype has only 16 GB. I was already doubtful since it's almost impossible to find 64 GB flash modules and the ones that DO exist are outrageously priced - well over $200+ retail. I knew that there was no way that Apple is going to put a $200+ flash module in their iPhone, so I was hoping that the new phone would have TWO flash slots like the Touch, but it doesn't look like it has. So I can pretty much guarantee no 64 GB phone in June. If 64 GB flash prices come down during the year, we may see one before year end, but Apple has not put out any increased capacity models at interim dates in the last few years, so even that's doubtful. But I hope I'm WRONG! :)

This also implies no 128 GB Touch this year unless the 64 GB prices come down, but that's still a way off. I know that Apple is DYING to dump the Classic, so they might push for this a little harder, so maybe we will see it in the fall. If so, there would be a chance that they release a 64 GB iPhone in the fall as well.

Still don't like how square and rectangular it is. I also don't like the back. We all know how this will look in a month. I thought we were done with candy bar phones?!?!? Or is that not what we call it anymore? It has seams, just isn't right. Maybe a really early generation iphone 3GS. I was hoping for the same back as the iPad because the one I saw at BestBuy seemed impossible to scratch.

the back camera is different

iphone3.jpg

Thought I was the only one that noticed obviously not though...

Glad I'm not the only one who noticed. The camera on the back is definitely different/larger in this new Vietnamese prototype.

So that's were Gray Powell was send to... vietnam.

LOL!

I just compared the printing on the chip with the one from the iFixIt teardown of the iPad:

New iPhone:
33950084 K4X2G643GE YN602473 APL0398 BSA1AO6A

iPad:
N26CGM0T 1007 APL0398 33950084 YNL184A2 1004 K4X2G643GE

I formatted the identical parts. Maybe this is the same SOAC that is in the iPad?!

Yea, I am pretty sure that is referring to the Chip.

Controlled Releases

I am starting to think these are all controlled releases. Just building more hype and getting us ready to show off new Apple products at the WWDC.

We all know what the iPhone looks like and what it can do (after seeing OS 4)so why hide it anymore?

I think it is interetsing that AT&T is letting people upgrade early. While they make up the lost money on each iPhone after the first 2 to 3 months of service. The remaing contract is all gravy to line AT&T's pockets (and not fix the network).

I would love if later this year (November) the iPhone was on Verizon and all the people who bought the new iPhone on AT&T are stuck in a contract or how many people jump ship.

Do the people that think this is a secret Apple publicity stunt also think that the government faked the moon landing? Or that 9/11 was a government conspiracy? Or that Obama is a secret Muslim operative?

Surely the nice, big sleep button on the top of the phone is easier to 'feel out' than a tiny gap in the bodywork? That's how I handle it when the phone's in my pocket right now, works like a charm.

Sure it is, but you risk accidentally pressing it and it also happens to be at the opposite end of the device. When adding textured reference points, it's helpful if they are on top or right beside the feature you are trying to emphasize. Check out the buttons of a typical lift next time your in one. You'll find on many of them a raised border around the button panel to make it easier for the blind to understand over what range the control interface is distributed.

Does the double resolution will make current iphone apps will go blurry? And devs need to adjust the res for each of the iphone 3g, iphone HD and ipad? Damn that is really a hassle.

Give the 'controlled leak' crap a rest people. Ever since that article came out, everyone claims everything is a controlled leak. It got old a long time ago.

I'm excited. I'm pretty sure they're gonna do something along the lines of 16GB for $99, 32GB for $199 or 64GB for $299. If not, it's either gonna add $100 to all those prices or just be 16 for $199 and 32 for $299. Either way, 32 is all I need. I still have quite a bit of room on mine. :) June 7th is only 26 days away.

And why the grip on a gun is shaped the way it is ... so the blind know what way they are shooting. :p

I literally Laughed out Loud with that.

And yes, it is true that the blind have found the iPhone to be useful. But to suggest that a seam is a deliberate design feature so as to know which way you are holding the phone "seems" to be a stretch. I doubt that was the intention.

I think it's more likely to be useful to prevent all the glass from shattering if the phone is dropped on its edge. Crumple zones :)

Maybe the seams are for clamping to the Mr Fusion for unlimited talk time?

HAHAHA I love it.

Almost as much as I love the comment ratio on the new iPhone vs. The Scary Long Pinky Nail. It's funny to see it evoke some serious research.

Exactly double the resolution will not make the current iPhone apps look blurry as one pixel from the game can be displayed on 4 (2 x 2) on the new screen. However, devs will probably have to adjust any graphics to take advantage of the new resolution to take advantage of the new screens to be competitive. Anything using the standard iPhone UI such as fonts should be OK.

3 different screen sizes will make for more work (iPhone generations 1-3, iPhone generation 4, and iPad).

I do not see 3 "seams" I see three indentations that will be used for attaching peripherals such as the credit card scanning device and other 3rd party accessories like gaming controlers. These indentations will assist in locking external devices on the iPhone without putting additional stress on the 30 pin connector and/or headphone plug in.

There has been major talk/discussions about being able to use the iPhone as a credit card scanner and attaching gaming controls, having lock depressions would make these attachments more stable and functional. These are lock depressions not "seams" as in two pieces coming together. You can see that in the Gizmodo photos when they broke it down...it is ONE piece, not 3 pieces joined at those depression marks.

These are NOT spring buttons...how in the hell would you use the friggin phone if you grasped it by the edges and were always depressing these so called buttons. And it a user was afraid to depress the buttons and grasped the phone in a lighter grip...We would see thousands of screaming threads about broken glass...front and back...from dropped phones. That is a totally stupid guess.

Look at the attached picture...those indentations are reinforced and thicker to support attachments. They are not hinged and even Gizmodo's report he stated that there was not a removable battery and that the edge is one piece, not three.

Nah. There is probably enough in the phone that is secret that Apple doesn't want to confirm yet. Let HTC, Motorola and the other phonemakers guess about what really is under the hood. Apple doesn't want to give the competition too much in designing iPhone killer 2010.

People would be sh¡tting bricks today saying that the back was soooo un-Apple like that the AL didn't cover the whole back.

Actually, people were griping about this at the time. Unfortunately you can't really transmit/receive cellular radio signals through solid aluminum, hence the plastic end (which you also see on the iPad 3G, BTW).

I thought we were done with candy bar phones?!?!?

Done? Most touchscreen phones are candy bar phones (and will continue to be).

You have your candybar/slate phones (iPhone and most other touchscreen phones), your flip/clamshell phones, and your sliders (Droid, Pre).

What happens if we were ALL wrong! What happens if there's not going to be a new iPhone this summer?

Funniest comment ever.

I sure hope that guy is a left handed classical guitar player, or he needs nail clippers more than any kind of phone.

You just made my day man.

This is the funniest comment. This guy indeed needs a nail clippers. Being the last finger, might be also for nose picking.
