Hmm, nice idea... but surely blind users would be able to identify the location of the headphone socket due to it being a hole in the top of the phone?

If you have an iPhone, close your eyes, set it on a desk and spin it around. Now find the headphone socket. You have a 50% chance of trying to insert your headphone pug into the speaker hole or the screw hole next to it.

On the new model, run your nail down the short edge, as soon as you catch on the 'seam' you know the socket is about 5mm beyond that.

I know it could just be ornamental, but Apple's DNA seems to only include design elements that have a function, ie. Dieter Rams 2nd rule of good design.

The 'seams' as everyone is refering to them are simply design elements to help determine orientation without looking at the device. No sliding panels, its a sealed unit.

The Break at the top helps you to identify the location of the headphone socket by touch alone, useful in the dark and for blind users.

The 30-pin connector, the mic & speaker recesses, the Home button, the camera lens recess, the ear mic, the headphone port, the sleep button, and the volume buttons are all much easier to find than a <1mm x 4mm severance in the aluminium frame.

the phone comes out in a month, the new iPhone has already been manufactured and produced in mass quantities. they aren't still playing with designs and prototypes.

Well, duh. That doesn't mean that there are no prototypes. It's not liked they arranged a big fire to burn all the old prototypes.

That's probably the most cost-effective marketing campaign that Apple's ever done: Simply "lose" two prototypes and get weeks of free press coverage. Still, despite their boring and out-dated 1990's catch phrases, I found the "I'm a Mac" ads more entertaining.

i imagine blind users are not high on the demographic list seeing as its nigh impossible for them to use a touch screen device with no tactile respone

Actually Apple's behaviour when it comes to disabled users is incredibly enlightened. The iPhone is the only touchscreen phone that gives full and unrestricted access to blind users with voiceover. see the following reviews: http://www.actionforblindpeople.org.uk/news/podcasts/iphone-review,184,SNS.html

Also every ipod and iphone has necessitated a new dock, why should this be any different?

Not true - 3G and 3GS fit into the same dock. I'm actually using the 3GS in an active 3G cradle in my car :) And with the docking port unchanged you might only need a new inlet/adapter for your dock (if you have a dock with this feature).

I find it hard to believe Apple would really leak an actual model; a blurry picture maybe or hints about functions etc but an actual model can be stripped and parts examined by competition also it removes the control and the impact of Hi-Res promo photos

The competition has never been tougher. Android is bigger, awesome phones from Motorola and HTC ect.

Now, Apple want's people to not buy the HTC phones, they want people to wait till July and buy the new iPhone, right? When people know all the new awesome features the new iPhone will have, they'll wait. Not when they see some blurry pictures.

I just compared the printing on the chip with the one from the iFixIt teardown of the iPad:

New iPhone:
33950084 K4X2G643GE YN602473 APL0398 BSA1AO6A

iPad:
N26CGM0T 1007 APL0398 33950084 YNL184A2 1004 K4X2G643GE

I formatted the identical parts. Maybe this is the same SOAC that is in the iPad?!

Your Correct. It is the same A4 chip that powers the iPad.

perhaps; i still think this is perhaps too extereme even for apple...this latest 'leak' shows the processor...still however it came about its making for an interesting June! and great news if they still use the full sim!!

and great news if they still use the full sim!!

1) The breakdown and tray clearly show space for a Micro SIM.

2) No one uses a "full SIM". Mini SIM is the norm these days.

3) You can make any Mini SIM a Micro SIM with a pair of scissors and 90 seconds of your time so wanting the larger SIM card makes no sense.

Good spot. I suspect though that it'll be underclocked for the iPhone maybe circa 800MHz.
