I just compared the printing on the chip with the one from the iFixIt teardown of the iPad:

New iPhone:
33950084 K4X2G643GE YN602473 APL0398 BSA1AO6A

iPad:
N26CGM0T 1007 APL0398 33950084 YNL184A2 1004 K4X2G643GE

I formatted the identical parts. Maybe this is the same SOAC that is in the iPad?!

Excellent work.

Good spot. I suspect though that it'll be underclocked for the iPhone maybe circa 800MHz.

M.

That is what I'm expecting. No need to ramp it up to best the Nexus One when it's all about the user experience. They might not even advertise the clockspeed, just the 'A4' itself and let customers draw their own conclusions based on the experience.

What would the implications be with the new phone having the A4 chip as opposed to the one thats in there now?

Battery life.

But that's going to improve anyway, as it looks like Apple has just shoved all of the brains of the device to one side leaving the rest for the battery.

The current 3GS battery is 3.7V @ 4.51Whr, it looks like the new one is 5.00WHr?

If you have an iPhone, close your eyes, set it on a desk and spin it around. Now find the headphone socket. You have a 50% chance of trying to insert your headphone pug into the speaker hole or the screw hole next to it.

On the new model, run your nail down the short edge, as soon as you catch on the 'seam' you know the socket is about 5mm beyond that.

I know it could just be ornamental, but Apple's DNA seems to only include design elements that have a function, ie. Dieter Rams 2nd rule of good design.

Surely the volume buttons do just as good a job of letting you know which way up your phone is in the dark?

16GB huh? So we might see another 16 and 32 GB iphone instead of 32 and 64?

Exactly, this makes me sad. If I want to fit all my music on my phone I need a 64 gig! Im fed up of having to juggle playlists and apps.

If they were keeping a 16 gig model, you would HOPE they are retaining the 3GS at 16 gig (like they do now with the 3G at 8gig) and have the HD at 32 and 64.

But since this is a pre-production model, naturally Apple could just be testing the waters to see what capacities they can deliver to remain on a par with the competition for the next 12 months. I wonder what other phones are offering 64 gig capacities right now? If no-one else is, I can well imagine Apple holding back on the 64 gig until Christmas or next June.

With a powerful apple chip and a better battery we will see a huge improvement - look at the difference a better proccessor has made to the 3GS - my friends 3G's battery life is awful!

Its pinky nail being that long is 1 of 4 things I'm aware of;
1) Coke Nail ( as in the powdered version)
2) In the old days in the Far east (china), long fingernails were a sign you were rich and didn't do manual labor. It has now been 'modernized' to just the pink finger
3) Plays a stringed instrument
4) Better 'Cleaning' of various body orifices

A lot of men I know/see here in SE Asia have a long fingernail or two (usually the pinky). The common reasoning is Number 2 that Flhusky mentioned. This still holds true, especially with rural, agrarian men who have migrated to the city to study/teach at universities or work in office jobs. But some of the folks I know give simpler reasons such as a "handy" tool or fashion.

The hand in the photo is very likely a man because he only has two long nails.

That does look like 5.00 WHr. The gizmodo one is 5.7 WHr. Also, I see a difference in the internal details.

The one from gizmodo has the chips covered. Also, the plastic that helps you remove the battery is different. I'll say this one looks like an earlier prototype (or preproduction model) as the gizmodo one does look a lot more like a retail item.

Looks sexy.

It certainly does and its amazing that the amount of people have changed their tune about the new form factor. There was so much whinging from the anorexic fanboys saying 'Ewwww they better round of the edges or else im not getting it'

Now the forums are awash at how beautiful it is. LOL!

Truth is this is certainly going to fly of the shelves once it hits this year. Apple seem to have cracked all the flaws associated with the previous phones. Looks the business in my view, cant wait for it.

Display specs...

When looking at size and shape of the display, it looks like the LCD panel is slightly smaller than the iPhone 3G/S one, but still has the 3:2 aspect ratio. My hunch: the new panel is (more or less) identical to the Meizu M8 (http://en.meizu.com/m/m8.html), which means a 3.4" 720x480 (non-OLED) panel as opposed to the 3.5" 480x320 in the current iPhone. I think the much talked about "960x640" is just overkill for the physical dimensions (at the moment).

Our Chinese supplier has promised us 2010 iPhone parts within 2 weeks. We'll see...

This is nothing.

Tomorrow I will be releasing photos of the upcoming super-secret new Android phone, the "HTC Aight"

So you mean the bottom screws are here to stay?

The 30-pin connector, the mic & speaker recesses, the Home button, the camera lens recess, the ear mic, the headphone port, the sleep button, and the volume buttons are all much easier to find than a <1mm x 4mm severance in the aluminium frame.

Haha.... yes, thank you. People are just dying to come up with any reason to explain the seams.

Hey Apple! We wanted the iPhone with Verizon, not Vietnam :p

Im kind of liking the design, its definitely a step aways form the previous models.
Id wonder what a aluminum back casing would look like...unless itd be like the nickel plated original iPhone?

Resolution

From the pics with the boot-up text, the screen resolution doesn't seem much higher (if any) from the original 480x320 of the iphone, even though it's supposed to be called "HD"

Thoughts?

Don't know about the resolution, but I hope it's an OLED screen.

Could be, judging by the blacks in this picture.

Man my life is getting more and more complicated!

I just pre-ordered my i pad which will ship on May 28th (in 16 days Loooong Time) and the new i phone will be out shortly after that. I have no money left!

I love the design of this new i Phone HD. It does look more mature!

The Best parts of the new i Phone HD:

1. Camera: I ll love to have a HD-Cam
2. Back: if it is a scratch resistant as it looks case will not be applied be me this time
3. Dock-Connector: this part surrounded by metal just makes it much more reliable. Mine wore out and cracked on the 3GS

As for the "Apple loosing all them i Phones"-> clearly on purpose!
