I still think that even with reduction in prices, customers are getting less for their money. For the same price, I am getting less in the box. Touting environmental benefits is fine if you were shaving off equivalent amount from the retail price of the phone, not when you’re charging regular and including less in the box.
There may be billions of adapters on the planet, but there is none for the guy who buys his first iPhone. That guy will have to pay more now. On top of that, if I have 3 iPhones in family, I want the ability to charge them at the same time. Again, if I am buying new, that’s 3 new adapters added to the billions. If I am new to iPhone and buying 3 for my family, again, 3 new adapters for each of them, unless I like to wait to charge mine while the other one charges. Where’s the environmental saving? In that regard, let’s just have one outhouse/ bathroom in the house since that’s saving water, among other things. It’s just how Apple chooses to market their greed, and people love falling for that somehow.
Not to say this won’t impact the environment positively, I’m only saying this could have been handled more gracefully for the person who wants the adapter and for the person who doesn’t. Like I said, shaving off retail price of adapter from the iPhone pricing for the one who doesn’t want an adapter would have been a good nudge to the guy who has spare adapters in the house, to save both his money and planet. That would be good. And not as greedy as possible.
