If Apple upgrade program customers start getting preferential treatment like this maybe it'll warrant the credit check.....

It was very upsetting that I couldn't get into the queue for a phone. I called, held 40 min, lady took info, held 30 minutes, new guy verified that same info(!). Today I got an Email about the added appointment hours, and I quick got on the Apple Store app and made an appointment to upgrade at one of the Long Island stores. So I'll end up with a first day phone, but the issue wasn't about getting a phone fast. It was about not being able to order the phone. I've been made happy, but this was not a very good Apple Experience. Next year should be real fun, since iPhone 8 will be in big demand to say the least.

Why would I have to cancel to see new stock? I'm able to access the portal by putting in my serial number and last 4 of my IMEI. I get the pop-up saying congratulations you are eligible and then it takes me to the website where I select state, store, model, color.
I don't know why, but that's how it works. I was skeptical too. but I bit the bullet and got the phone I wanted. And once I made the new reservation all the additional stock disappeared again. YMMV.

Eeek.. I don't know how I feel about that. I think I may just wait and see what happens on launch day. I have an 8:00AM reservation, so if they have additional options I can ask then. I rather have a device than the one I really want.

Do you have an existing reservation? If so you won't see any additional stock... you have to cancel first (no guarantee you'll get what you want but that's how you see the additional stock)
I don't have current reservation, no ... Not sure why it's not working for me.

Another thing to consider, I canceled a res for a 32gb plus, made a new res for a 128gb plus after new reservation all the additional stock disappeared however I could see the 32gb I canceled as available.

Amazing how apple found all that extra stock for launch day!.
Why do I have a feeling that some poor country like Latvia will have no stock because some got diverted?

I'd think instead of a many-country release, they could roll out a bit slower, for example release in U.S., Canada, UK, then bring in other countries as units stream in.

For upgraders, put them in the standard queue for phone shipment, deliver to the home, send the phone back. Gazelle does a beautiful, Apple-worthy job of this.

Finally, I found the upgrade phones, advertised on the Apple site as unlocked, are not. I asked the phone person why I have to specify carrier, I expect to change mine at year end. She said the phones are locked.

I'm not a risky taking person lol. I think I'm gonna stick it out. Worst case scenario, its a year.

The URLs are even different. The 'good' URL is the reserve-us.apple.com one. That's what you see when you are upgrading and you do NOT have a reservation. There you see the new stock.

If you already have a reservation, you get the 'cdn' URL and you do not see all the new stock (the new 7 pluses). Been there, tried it. It's the way it works. We've proved it.

As others suggested I cancelled my iPhone 7 reservation to try to get a 7+, sadly even though they added a bunch of 7+'s there are no Black 256GB ATT 7+'s in northern california. I have a reservation for a 128GB 7+, we'll see if either they come through in the next day or so, or I get lucky in store. What a mess.

Yeah, but how does the system know if you have a "backup" reservation or not? These Urls's seem to be randomly generated regardless of Phone or apple account.

EDIT: Nevermind, post above seems to explain the difference in Url's.

They are not locked. But there are radio band differences. The phones are different between carriers. Look at the tech specs fine details.

Yep I just canceled my iPhone 7+ 256GB Gold. I decided to wait until I can get the Color i want. Maybe I'll get Luck on Saturday. But this just means I have to keep checking all day. With the iPhone being water proof I really don't need a Lifeproof Case anymore. I can get just a normal one to protect against drops. I can even go clear;)

Can you post the full URL for the reserve-us?

Wonder if there will be a class action suit filed on behalf of all those not in the iUP? Why should you get preferential treatment? Go Block and Leviton!!!

Not any longer. :) I made a res, so I'm in the same boat as you all. Sorry, should have saved it, but it may be passing parms and not work in any case.

Maybe it's in your browser history?

I kept getting redirected to cdn-apple despite I don't have a reservation ... _sigh_.

I want a 7 plus in black, all they previously had available was the 7 in black which I reserved

Contacted the upgrade program number they said they'll search for me. The reservation page specifically states you can switch your choice to something else as long as stock is available. However some say if you cancel your reservation you'll see more in store options (not sure why this is the case). Having said that I'm afraid to cancel what I have now with the option of switching in store to instead hope that cancelling will show more in stock phones with the chance nothing extra shows up and I am left with no appointment and no option to switch

I am in a similar situation. I was able to originally secure a Silver 128 GB 7 Plus during pre-orders but I really wanted the black. When I got the email this morning, I was able to get a reservation for the black but a different store.

I am now trying to figure out the best way to cancel the Silver and get the Black without screwing anything up since I already went through loan process with the original order and was approved.

I was told by Apple Support that I could pick up the Silver phone and then exchange for the Black model at the other store. My business contact at the second store said I would have to cancel the original order and start from scratch with the black phone. So confused.

Finally said:

Like others are saying it's the Cellular bands they operate on. Read MacRumors post on it. https://www.macrumors.com/2016/09/08/att-and-tmobile-iphone-7-models-lack-cdma/
AT&T and T-Mobile phones have the new Intel chip. These won't work on Verizon. I was able to switch to Verizon from AT&T last year without switching phones with the iPhone 6s+. You would be able to do the with the iPhone 7

I canceled my 7+ Silver 128 reservation to try to get a 7+ Silver 256. No luck, but thankfully, after a few minutes, my canceled phone appeared as available to reserve. So I'm back where I started.

For anyone in the Memphis, TN area... The Germantown store has 7+ Black 128 in Verion, 7+ Gold 128 in ATT. Don't remember what else I saw. No 7+ Silver or 256 at all.
