TBH, I don't care about the Pride Parades any more than I care about the Irish-American Parade or any other parade. I am not a fan of the current gender issues as I am a believer gender and sexuality are separate things and gender is biology and not negotiable. I don't care what you identify with, what potty you use is purely a hardware issue. I've had close friends that were gay and monogamous for many decades and it's a crime that they were never married before one of them passed away. I actually see the current circus around gender issues to be detrimental to the cause, because I do believe that there is a good bit being done for attention, shock value, fame, etc.

All that said, this thread is about Apple's participation. As a shareholder it does bother me that they participate in this just as it would if they sponsored the NRA convention (yes I'm an NRA supporter - big surprise). It just doesn't have anything to do with making and selling their products and I am one that wishes corporations would stay out of politics.

With being inundated every year during the month of June, I have decided every year going forward to shut-down every social media account I have during that month. There use to be a time when gays said what they did in their bedroom was nobody's business. Now, they demand that you approve of it in every town square or you're labeled with every SJW slur they can think of.

Employee engagement and satisfaction has nothing to do with making products? LOL

I'm a Christian and I'm more offended by the prideful behavior than I am about their lifestyle. Pride isn't a good trait. Be it proud about your foot size, hair color, skin color (any color) or weight, it's annoying to tell everyone about how PROUD you are of something you have no control over for no reason. Imagine walking around touting how awesome you are for having longer second toes than your big toes? It's obnoxious AF and nobody likes it. I want a flag for my rhythmic movement disorder! I demand it... I was made fun of at camps because of my rocking at night. People NEED to know how proud I am of my RMD....
Do you feel the same way about patriotic pride? Or family pride? You didn't choose who you are related to, and you didn't have any control over where you were born. Do you cringe when you hear that Lee Greenwood song?

This makes me sick. Why do brands pander to those that live in sin?
If you have any faith in G-d you would know that homosexuality is an abomination.
They do this to normalize the sin.
It is still sin. Don’t do it. Pray for forgiveness. Open your heart and pray for redemption.
I’ll be praying for them.

when is straight month? JK

What an overused false equivalence. Gay people can be fired from their job in most states just because of who they are. Gay people face violence and homophobia every day. Gay people just won the right to marry the person they love....and there are officials in some states that still resist this basic human right.

As a straight man, I face none of these issues. As a father of a gay son, I am very concerned about these issues. Pride month helps maintain our awareness.

Man, why are people always butthurt that Apple is an ultra-liberal company? All your hard earned money is going to support liberals and their lifestyles. Deal with it. Oh and pride is a thing because these people are stigmatized worldwide, as noted in these comments.
It's almost as if Apple was founded by a couple of Bay Area hippies...

Apple's been a very liberal company since its founding. It must be difficult for conservative devotees to accept.

My favorite part of homophobia is that most of its practitioners believe that an unmarried 34 year old middle eastern jewish liberal man who liked sandals, famous last dinner parties, and traveled with an exclusively male entourage his entire life, has taught them that homosexuality is wrong.

Actually that rule came way, WAY before that Guy showed up. In reality, that Guy actually told people to not throw stones in glass houses. But ignorance is rampant everywhere, within and without.

And I take issue with that term: homophobia.

Homosexual behavior is counter to many religious doctrines, not to mention philosophical inclinations (not necessarilly religious in nature).

It is not ALWAYS rooted in fear or hatred. An individual should be able to disagree with the acceptability of a particular behaviour, whatever it may be, so long that is the extent of it (i.e. violence goes beyond a mere disagreement).

Morality is a subjective thing.

Who is stopping the employees from participating without the corporate presence? Do they support causes that other employees want supported. When companies start these practices it can not help but be endearing to some and alienating to others. That's not a corporations purpose.

If only Tim Cook marched in a Jony Ive parade, ie took an interest in his design work at Apple, then perhaps he wouldn't have left the company.

I'm having a problem convincing my three-year-old girl that she'll only make a mess if she tries to use the urinal, but my three-year-old boys can sit on the potty just as well as she can.

They all use the same bathroom at home. The existence of separate facilities in most public restroom is more related to social norms than hardware.

I think you're missing the point. Pride is literally the opposite of exclusionary, it's a festival for inclusion of all ages, races, genders, sexual identities, etc. The idea is acceptance and most Bay Area people know this. In the same way that Black Lives Matter doesn't mean White Lives Don't Matter, it's just pinpointing a civil rights issue. I've worked at a few startups and the overwhelming majority of talent is accepting, if not liberal. If some pissed off engineer wants to leave, there's plenty to take his spot - I imagine Apple weighed the pros and cons, they are a near-trillion dollar company after all.

Cant help but wonder why a man in such a powerful and protected position as Tim Cook, only publicly came out as gay in late 2014?

Everyone's journey through life is different.

I'm gay and I came out at 20 during college, although I wanted to come out earlier but felt pressure not to. I know people who are older than I am now (34) who still haven't come out and likely won't.

And speaking generally here, plenty of gays never go to a pride parade. I've only ever been to one. And June passes by just like any other month for me.

Couldn’t be more wrong. Ask random women you don’t know if they are happy to share toilets with strange men, and also ask vice versus, I think you’ll find the majority think differently to you and it won’t be because of ‘social norms’...

I sure hope you follow everything in the Bible, if not your living in sin too and need to pray for yourself; don't bother praying for me, I'm good.

Gay people can be fired from their job in most states just because of who they are.

This is incorrect, or at least misleading.
In those States that allow gays to be fired there is no protection for gender and/or sexual orientation at all. In other words, a straight individual can be fired for being straight. The law (or lack thereof) does not favor one orientation over another.

I can’t wait until we no longer have to celebrate any of these theme months. That’s when we have truly accepted each other.

You don’t HAVE to celebrate anything at all.
Not even your own birthday if you don’t want to.
However, it would be nice if you didn’t have any issue with other people celebrating that they are not afraid of being who they are, in spite of widespread discrimination.
