This is incorrect, or at least misleading.
In those States that allow gays to be fired there is no protection for gender and/or sexual orientation at all. In other words, a straight individual can be fired for being straight. The law (or lack thereof) does not favor one orientation over another.

Ridiculous. Straight people are not a minority that require protection from discrimination. Gay people are a minority and are frequently discriminated against in many places.....including the work place. There was a time when you could not obtain a security clearance if you where gay. You couldn’t service in the military. Even now, the present Administration is trying to ban transgender people from military service.

Cool of Apple I say. For anybody questioning why there are Pride parades? Just read the odd comment here and understand it still gets far too much criticism. The very reason this thread has to be put into PRSI means this sort of event is important.

Uh, no. The reason it gets a lot of criticism – and I say this as a gay guy – is because it does not promote equality at all. It promotes identitarianism and "my group vs your group". How can being gay be normalised to the public when gay pride only helps to assert the impression that gay people like to march on the street half naked with makeup on their face?

You don't speak for me.
Lmao what? You can easily find examples of LGBTQ+ murder in a minute.

Educate yourself.

The most murders and executions of gay men and women happen in the Middle East.

How about you educate yourself first.

Nothing ridiculous. You can't make laws to protect a subclass ("male") but only a class ("sex") if you want to see it implemented.

It's LGBTIQCAPGNGFNBA. Yes, even as a gay guy, I find it as pathetic as the rest. Along with gay pride. Hey, did you know Facebook has 71 genders you can choose from?

I refuse to go to gay pride because it's an identitarianism march, nothing more. A lot of the people that go to these events like to show you just how gay they are by staring at the world half naked with lipstick on their face, as if it's normal. Unfortunately, all they demonstrate is how out of shape, unattractive and mentally incapacitated they are.

And before the lefties start with their chronic outrage culture: I'm gay and I don't care about your feelings.

Being gay myself, I've only ever been to one pride parade. I know, I'm a bad gay, haha. As for why Pride is a month long, I chalk it up to the fact that gays love a good party. Why have just one day when you can have thirty? :)

Wrong again. You can make such laws. There are states that protect against discrimination based on sexual orientation, and these laws are constitutional and enforced. It is just most red states do not provide these protections because it would be bad politics with the right wing base.

So, if you are an unfortunate soul that lives in one of these ruby red states with no protection, then you damn well can be discriminated against for your sexual orientation, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Of course you’re entitled to your opinion like I am and I was not speaking on your behalf but for myself. I like that pride events highlight that homophobia still exists and is a shot at the people who either hate homosexuality or claim to not have a problem with it as long as it’s hidden. Not everybody at pride events march half naked and wear makeup either despite the stereotypes. Feel feel to disagree and enjoy the rest of your day.

Cant help but wonder why a man in such a powerful and protected position as Tim Cook, only publicly came out as gay in late 2014?

Ask all the leading CEOs, because I guarantee you, we was the first CEO to come out. Is he the only gay CEO? I doubt it. It's almost as though gay people have to be very careful about who knows about their sexuality, because people can be quickly expelled from polite society and will have to sacrifice to be themselves.

I'm really getting sick and tired of it. I can't wait until July so I can get on with my ****ing totally gay life in peace without having rainbow colours in my face everywhere I go.

Not everybody at pride events march half naked and wear makeup either

I know that, but many of them do. And it does not help.

There is a difference between homophobia and disliking a lifestyle. It is inappropriate to become intolerant to different points of view. I don't find camp guys attractive. Does that make me hateful? No, it means I don't like certain lifestyles but that does not mean I can't be friends with people who have different lifestyles to me. I have gay, camp, straight and Christian friends with different lifestyles and of course different views on this very subject. If someone starts physically hurting others because of their sexuality, then you and I will be in agreement. But people should be entitled to peacefully hold and express different and unpopular views that you and I might disagree with.

She comes in colors everywhere
She combs her hair
She's like a rainbow
Coming, colors in the air
Oh, everywhere

She comes in colors
She comes in colors everywhere

She's like a rainbow
Coming, colors in the air...

I know, my feelings are so hurt, bud! I need to go and see if the Government can step in for me and make everyone else to agree and approve my pathetic life. Can you please massage my little ego for a bit, that will surely make me feel better, please?

Careful, if you go around asking men to massage your little ego to make you feel better they might get the wrong impression.

You realize that you have just proven my point, right?

Ugh! So you agree there is discrimination against gay people and only those that live in states that afford protection have recourse. And if you live in a red state without protection, you are screwed. How does that prove your point? It means that gay people can still be discriminated against in the work place for many states in our union. This is simply not an issue that straight people face. Which is the reason we need to maintain awareness.....e.g. Pride events.

I'll be the last person to deny the existence of discrimination (obviously not only for gays).

only those that live in states that afford protection have recourse.

Generally, this is correct (then we'd have to go case-by-case, but in general yeah).

And if you live in a red state without protection, you are screwed.

If there is no protection, there is no protection.

How does that prove your point?

Re-read what I wrote.

It means that gay people can still be discriminated against in the work place for many states in our union.

As straight individuals (in the same states).

This is simply not an issue that straight people face. Which is the reason we need to maintain awareness.....e.g. Pride events.

And that is a statement on cultural behavior, which is not what I pointed out.

Personally, one day is enough. You don't join for rcognition, but to serve. That was reward enough in itself.

"For it'sTommy this, and Tommy that, and chuck him out the brute,
But he's the savior of the country when the guns begin to shoot..."
Almost all of these types of celebrations (for whichever group or subgroup) are about recognition in one form or another. I haven’t found too many people in life who don’t feel the need to be recognized or appreciated.

I like to have a angry Mac user Day. Just an hour would be fine. We have real work to do.
That’s every day in MacRumors.

I love how he's so "proud" but couldn't come out til a few years ago & is now suddenly injecting "Pride" at every opportunity.

His greandstanding and virtue signaling is pathetic.

Man. I seen the headine of Apple joining the march, and I seen the photos of those happy people out wearing their t-shirts and I thought "Aw, that's nice. They're having a good time and everyone is happy. Look! Selfies with Tim! Very nice!".

And then I read the comments. Dear lord. This is why we can't have nice things.

I really don’t hate you because you all LGBTQ community choose being something that was never classified as a gender at all.

People having sex with same gender today or thousands of years back doesn’t make it right!

Even in all Abrahamic religions same gender sex was never OK. It is a huge sin you like it or not.

Do you think being a guy marrying another guy then thinking we want to have kids then decide to get eggs from sister and plant it into mother is something natural?

https://www.cnn.com/2019/03/30/us/woman-gives-birth-to-granddaughter/index.html

If you think that is normal and healthy relationship will come out of this, then I really hope you find peace someday.

God who created everything would’ve done much better than this chaos in human relations.

In short, relationships are mend to be between men and women shaded by marriage.
