Woke up at 3am, spent an hour and a half trying to preorder, but AT&T's site was screwed, so neither Apple or AT&T could get the necessary information to upgrade. Decided to call it a night.

Woke up at 830ish, placed my order without a hitch.

worldphone

Plus, you won't get 3G speed since T-Mobile uses a different frequency. The primary benefit of the unlocked model in the US is that you can use it overseas with a local SIM card instead of paying AT&T's outrageous data rates.

so, this was historically the case, with US phones from AT&T trying to operate on the t-mobile system in the USA. Question is, if this is now a truly world phone, then why wouldn't it work on the t-mobile freqs in the usa? Is t-mo international operating on a totally different frequency than t-mobile usa still for roaming?

Anyway, hesitated to get it unlocked straight from Apple as we do not have to wait here in Canada to get unlocked phones, unlike you yanks. :D

Yes, I'm a bit annoyed at that. They won't even tell us when in November we can order it. At least our sales taxes are lower than yours.

I put in an order last night around 3:45 am est. The order finished. I have a temp charge on my CC but never received the confirmation email.... I am a little worried. I tried going back but it already shows I renewed my contract so I have to buy the phone for the unsubsidized price. I cant check my order on apple.com because the order status pages are broken and I cant call because the lines are full. What do I do?

i am in the same boat as you. i don't know what to do either and to top it all off, apple took a $100 extra out of my account? i got the 32gb, so it was like $315 and that has a charge and then there is another charge for $100. don't understand what that is? how long will these charges be in the account? i thought you weren't charged until it shipped. will the amounts be held all week long or are they just a temporary hold? this is very frustrating. I'm starting to think waiting for hours in line like last year is looking like a better option than this mess. if i never receive the email, do i assume it isn't ordered? i have a confirmation number, but you can't call because it says the volume is too high. they really need to beef up their phone system or something during these launches!

Depending on Rogers' pricing, I might just cancel my reservation with them and go unlocked still. I have some time to think about it. I think I'll give them a call. They must be swamped.

Only a few carriers around the world use that spectrum so Apple didn't add it to the iPhone. It's quad-band UMTS and quad-band GSM, meaning that it will work on one of the two pretty much everywhere.

UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz);
GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz)

The annoying thing is that there are some penta-band phones (including T-Mobile's 1700MHz UMTS), but Apple doesn't use those chipsets.

If the T-Mobile/AT&T merger goes through (a big IF), AT&T has said they plan to use the 1700MHz spectrum for LTE. That could be another reason Apple decided not to add LTE yet. They are waiting to figure out which bands to support on day 1.

Also, yes, T-Mobile US uses a different frequency from T-Mobile in Europe.

That wont work.....its been tried...
You need to use a carrier who is not officially offering iPhone (hence the reason you would buy an unlocked in the first place)

Next you need that non-iPhone carrier to be using SIM cards (so no Virgin Mobile, etc.)

StraighTalk Nokia e71 from Walmart....it will cost you $200, but monthly is only $45

So would you be able to still have unlimited data on a GSM network?

Sigh...

Well the apple online store was not lagging for me but apparently my "account type is not supported"... and im trying to extend off another person in my family plans contract so this is gonna be a long day :apple:

incorrect, you will get 3G with Straight Talk's SIM card from Nokia E71 (you need to buy the Nokia E71, not the other cheaper Straight Talks)

You will get 3G, but there is Soft Cap of 2Gigs so you cant abuse it. (they have disconnected people for going over, even though its not techinically written anywhere...they advertise unlimited data, but there definietiley is that Soft Cap

Was hoping that Sprint would have some sort of program for existing customers to get the iPhone 4s (or 4) to get the phone at new customer price. Kind of like the program ATT did when the original iPhone came out since Sprint has never had the iPhone. But since the 2 phones i want would cost me around $1300 and says i can renew in june, guess ill have to pass for now. Sucks cause I've been an apple evangelist for a long time. I would hate to see how much apple stuff I've talked my friends and family into buying over the year. Still love apple, just frustrated can't get this phone now that its finally available on the carrier i use and that works where i work. Sprint told me it would cost me $100 per phone to early terminate. So they are willing to lose me as a customer over $200? Oh well....

I'm am confused on how this is done. (Preordering the iPhone)

I am currently in Contract with Verizon but I am eligible for an upgrade.. do I preorder the iPhone and then take it into my local verizon store and get it activated?

No trouble with Unlimited Data Plan! (Thank God they kept it!)

it wont let me click my unlimited data!

Thank God that option was there when I saw it! I was very happy! And I had no trouble clicking on it. Though I got all the way through to the "Add to Cart" at 3:57 AM EDT (24 minutes after store came back up). Then it crashed (their servers), so it took me ~20 more times on two Macs to order and get the "Your iPhone has been reserved." an hour later.

I got an email at 7:07 AM saying I should complete my order by 5 PM Saturday.

I finally bought it at 9:24 EDT (today, Friday), but I got it reserved at 4:58 AM EDT and Delivery said it would be on October 14th, not shipped on October 14th!

Apple Germany (rerouted to US servers) worked without a hitch. Not a single delay during ordering (around 10:30 a.m. local time) and the order screen was still available around 2 p.m. local time.

Seems Apple is better prepared this time around. Maybe one reason for the belated introduction even was that Apple wanted to ramp up stock in anticipation of the demand - to avoid month-long delays in delivery as happened with the iPhone 4...

iGot my iPhone 4S at iTime = 8 AM this morning.

Took me about 6 minutes to complete the transaction :D. But since then cant check the status of my order

no, you should be able to activate it on your own. I'm sure they'd be happy to do it for you, but it should be as simple as hooking it up to iTunes (or maybe you don't even have to do that with iOS5) and letting it guide you through the steps.

Do I keep my unlimited plan in AT&T?

Will I be able to keep my unlimited plan in AT&T if I upgrade my phone?

yeah, but they have national universal health insurance...I would pay more for my iPhone if Washington gave that to us....

Started my order though Verizon at 2:50EST, done by 3 and got my confirmation at 3:18 :D

Not sure why they let me start early, but I wasn't complaining!

They advertise unlimited but they have disconnnect people for abuse. The magic number seems to be 2 gigs...not written anywhere, but its a soft cap.

Thanks.

I have the bank to get an unlocked phone, but I was hoping for unlimited data. I'm on Verizon now, and their plans are just lame. The extra money I'd have to pay every month on the AT@T plan isn't worth the speeds to me.

Think I'll just go w/ Sprint.

Does anyone know if we preorder from AT&T if the phone will be delivered on the 14th? I remember apple setting up preorders that way in the past, but not sure if it is the same if ordered from AT&T.
