Hey guys, I put my pre-order in this morning and have since received a confirmation email.

However, I went over to Verizon and checked my account and it still shows my number as being up for an upgrade. I haven't ordered a phone through Apple before, is this normal? Will it ever show up on Verizon until I get the phone?

Verizon

I had luck on Verizon's website. I've been waiting to use my upgrade credit for the iPhone launch. I set my alarm for 1:50 am (Central Time) and got on to Verizon with no issues. By 2:11 am I had the form done and order in. Went back to bed and had the confirmation email in my inbox at 5:30 am. With my upgrade credit I got the phone for $175 and it's saying it should ship by October 14th. I'm hoping the ship date stands as I'd like to have my new phone by the time I leave for Denver the following week. My husband has an iPhone 4 with AT&T but he's not upgrading this time around. My Verizon phone has been slowly dying and I'm ready to finally get the iPhone (already have an iPad, iMac, Mac Mini, Apple TV - so we are Apple Centric household).

Same for me with my VISA CC. Normally Apple does not charge your CC until they ship, so this tells me they are shipping right away. I suspect some of us will get phones a day or so early like last time.

They aren't charged, the charge is pending. Like at a restaurant when they pend the charges before putting in the final amount that you add a tip to. It's not finalized until they enter the tip amount and finalize the charge. We'll have to see if these "pending" charges go through in the next 2 or 3 days or if they remain pending until they actually ship.

Agreed. But in the past they have not even put the amount in pending until it is ready to ship.

Got my 32GB 4S pre-order from Sprint in at 3:30am EST. Was able to use a link someone posted here yesterday to Sprints referral program shoppers private store and got the $69.99/mo 'Everything Data' plan for $59.99/mo! :)

Sorry - didn't explain it well. Not if they would be "opened" or not. But, if Apple would still be taking pre-orders for shipment on the 14th? Sometimes their shipment slips when you don't order early enough.

I would check it myself but when I went to check it it told me that I already had one on order (through AT&T) and would have to cancel that one first. I didn't want to cancel through AT&T and then go to the Apple online store to pre-order and then get a message saying "4-6 weeks shipment" or something like that if they have sold out already.

Oooh; I get what you're saying now. I think they'll take preorders up until.. well technically, it depends on what they mean by pre-order.

One example is that it stays like this all the way through the 13th, and then they stop. If you preorder, you get yoru device as it ships BUT they only have so many preorders READY. Once it reaches that magic number, you get put on the list and yoru phone ships when it's made.

The OTHER large set of devices is at the carrier stores and Apple Stores, so people can rush in and buy them.

At that point, when the online reserve and in store reserve is gone, they will be funneled out and you can order online or try and get lucky like with the iPad 2. You could walk in and get lucky or just order online and wait for a few weeks.

I think that, for online, if you ordered before say, 8am today, you should be good. As the day goes on people are going to get online and order and then the numbers start shooting up. Although people love Apple products, not many people on the East coast will stay up till 4 to preorder, especially when a lot of people are still in contract and the phone looks exactly the same as before.

Looks carry a LOT of weight in the mobile phone market, and the average consumer is just looking at this and wondering what's so different than their 4S. Remember, we are quick to say that "specs don't matter", but then also quick to assume people will eat this thing up when it's just A SPEC BUMP with SIRI.

The last bit was me getting off my rocker, but yea, I think the orders will go about like that. OR they'll just stop when they run out of online stock, seeing as they might not want people thinking they will get the phone on launch when ordering at 1pm today.

Ordered the White 16gig on Apple and finally after a few hours received the order email. Plus I'm wearing my black turtleneck even though it was pushed to next week.

I was able to hop right onto AT&T and go through the process just now, but I bailed ... I just don't think I can spend the extra $250 to have it a few months sooner (even though my current Android device is totally flaky).

$100, maybe $150, but at $250 it's almost doubling the cost of the phone. For that much, I'd probably be better off going unlocked then I can just do what I want.

Haven't received confirmation email

Hi all, I got my order number after purchasing the 4S two hours ago, but still have not received a confirmation email. Anybody else having this issue?

So I had to go to an AT&T store to do it because my upgrade on my family plan needed to be switched (already discussed with a rep). When I got there, 20 min after they opened, the rep told me the ship time was now 14-21 days :)mad:). I said Apple's site still said delivered by the 14th, he said they just got a pop-up with the new dates. So I ordered anyway.

Got home after and went to Apple AND AT&T sites still say Oct. 14th, so Im hoping I get it by then. 2-3 weeks just doesn't make sense

I ordered my iPhone 4S successfully, money was taken from my account and I got an confirmation from Apple about the order. On the Apple site it shows "Ships: Ships by October 14th", does anybody know what does that exactly mean? Will the phone be shipped on the 14th or will it arrive on the 14th?

I called and threatened to change to Verizon because I got the iPhone 4 on launch day and it would be cheaper to pay their $175 ETF vs. the $250 additional upgrade fee for an iPhone 4S. They sent me to "client retention" and she told be that she would call me today with an option I could not refuse. Well she called be today and offered to put the new iPhoneS on a new line for only $9.99 additional per month and give me the upgrade price on the phone. So, in 6 months when my "old" contract is up I can cancel that line and continue with "new" line. So basically she let me upgrade for only $70.

this trick has always been there as a work around, the number porting when you get both devices can be a little bit of a headache. It doesn't really make sense that they would allow this option/solution and yet wouldn't allow one to simply pay the money upfront (which is sort of why the ETF gets smaller over time), but it works. You DO have to stay ontop of it though, to cancel the line, etc., in a timely fashion and nothing is really only 9.99$ you know, taxes, fees, sub charges all will apply

I just got a charge from AT&T for 256 dollars. First of all, I thought it said it was only going to be 200, and second, I thought we didn't get charged until it shipped?

Address Change

FYI, I the delivery address was set to my ATT billing address this morning when I ordered at Apple.com. I couldn't change it. I was just now able to log in and edit the order and change the shipping address. I saw others had this issue as well.

So here is what I found with my two AT&T lines that both have $5 messaging plans for 200 messages on a family plan. I upgraded last night (receiving reservation numbers) through the Apple Store and went back to complete the orders this morning....

1) One line allowed me to pick unlimited data, but only showed options for "Pay per Use" or "Unlimited" messaging. I called AT&T and the CSR was very helpful. He offered to do the order through AT&T, promising an Oct. 14th shipment (I told him I did not trust that given the volume of orders with AT&T that preceded mine). Instead, he put a note in my account with the exact messaging plan identifier saying that if the upgrade somehow removed my messaging plan (I was to choose "Pay per Use" in the Apple Online Store) that AT&T would still grandfather the messaging plan after the fact.

2) The other line did not even give me options to change my plan, it just carried everything through as it was. It showed $5 for 200 monthly messages and unlimited data. I simply submitted the order with Apple.

So apparently, only either the "primary" or "secondary" numbers are having trouble with the online upgrade process at Apple's online store. Not sure which was which, but I *think* it was my primary line that was having issues, though they switched which line on my account was primary at one point (to accommodate my FAN discount) and every once in a while their system is confused about which is the primary line.

Anyway, my advice is to call AT&T. I've been a customer with them for about 12 or 13 years now and they were very friendly on the phone with me and very helpful.

I keep getting errors when I try to go to the store to check my order, but the confirmation email I received from Apple says "DELIVERS Oct 14 by standard shipping".

YMMV.

FWIW, my bank account has already been withdrawn for my iPhone 4s order. Last year, my account didn't get debited until the phone was marked as shipped for delivery. I take this as a good sign.

full value

I just got a charge from AT&T for 256 dollars. First of all, I thought it said it was only going to be 200, and second, I thought we didn't get charged until it shipped?

you get charged tax on the full value of the device, which is either 500$/600$/700$ dollars, not the subsidized price. Seems you are in about a 10.5% tax market.

Well.........

I just received a call from my credit card company. They noticed that AT&T submitted two temporary charges for $1.00 on my account, followed by the two charges for the two iPhones that I wanted to purchase. My credit card denied the charges, suspecting fraud.

AT&T tried to run the charges at least two more times thereafter. Not to be deterred, my credit card company denied those as well. My credit card company said this is sometimes how entities try to submit fraudulent charges. I said its AT&T, not Joe's Corner Store.

I think I just lost my pre-orders. What the heck?

Call them back and tell them explicitly to let the charge go through.

Slightly OT, but is it a Chase card? They seem the most trigger happy of all my cards.

The $200 phone is really $649, so that would be about 8.6%.

im pretty sure u can buy it before 1 yr ends.
thats what sales rep told me for mba purchase

They changed things with the new AppleCare+. You still have until the warranty runs out on other products (like Macs).

I'm talking about the price to AT&T, not the unlocked price of the iphone 4gs. I THINK they are 500$ for the 16gb, which is the 300$ subsidy that AT&T gives.

I know what you mean. Chase is a headache if God forbid you need to use your card in a slightly different pattern or for a company in a different country even if it is a huge conglomerate.
