So to save the planet, Apple wants more money. Love the spin at that "event" today. It's not about saving the environment. It's about charging for the things that came free when you bought that overpriced Iphone to begin with.

Stock traded companies interested in making profit? I think you’re onto something big there!

It’s mine blowing honestly how you don’t care. Lol. It’s the idea is it. Apple constantly takes takes takes.

Not including is not taking. They offer a reasonably priced option for those few in need.
My new phone will charge on the exact same chargers my household has charged the last couple of devices with. Could not care for another crap set of EarPods or chargers I don’t get to use.

I'll bet it comes in it's own packaging, not as environmentally friendly as it would have been to include it with the phone.

Yup and only a fraction will be made that way compared to the old free distribution. So still a gain for the environment. Plus what’s not made doesn’t end up in the bin.

that's fine, but have the option of getting one free if you need one. to add $19 on top of your phone purchase is ridiculous.

They could have added a voucher for those of us that needed one. I feel as if they did this move one year too early. Most people don’t have USB-C power adapters.

About as useful as firewire cables, or the original 30 pin connector on the iPods. Or wooden wheels. I could go on and on. Technology moves forward. Feel free to complain but it won't stop the tide. Would it have been better if they made they change in 2019 or 2021? What makes 2020 so special that no changes should be allowed? (rhetorical question, I know 2020 sucked).
You keep repeating the same thing. Everything moves forward. Apple claims that people have chargers laying around everywhere. Which is true. However, those are the old 5w chargers. They only started putting USB-C chargers with the iPhone Pros last year. Those who bought a Pro last year, will have an extra charger if they trade it in for a new iPhone. There are A LOT of people who didn't buy a Pro last year. So, where are all these USB-C chargers that you, and Apple claim most people have lying around? What would they be left from? I have only had iPhones since the 3G. I've upgraded almost every year. I've had several iPads. On my 4th Apple TV, 4th Apple Watch, 2nd iMac. I have one USB-C charger. That is for my iPad Pro, that I still have. So I need that one for my iPad. I will buy another iPhone. And the MagSafe charger. But, after all that...the fact that I will have to buy a charging adapter...is ridiculous. Yes, I can afford it. For once, it is about the point. I am extremely loyal to Apple. Now, they are taking advantage of people like me. They know I'll buy one. But, their bit about "the environment" is untrue. They know that a lot of people will need one of these chargers, because the piles of old 5w chargers are useless. It's just greed. Plain and simple. They could at least be honest. They are being disloyal to their customers.

20W is a weird number, I wonder what the specs are. Usually chargers are 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V, etc @ 2-3 A so coming up with 20W is bit odd. Maybe 9V @ 2.2 A?
Probably 5v 4 amp (USB-C supports up to 5A)
Mind boggling at how many people will go nuts over $19 when purchasing a $700-1500 phone... especially since most of us here have an abundance of power adapters (which is the whole idea... less e-waste).
Whats boggling is you spend $1500 for a battery operated device and they don't supply you a way to charge it!

That would kind of defeat the purpose. If it's free, many (most?) people would select the option for the free charger, even if they didn't need it. People take things that are free and they don't need all the time. It has to have a price for a person to consider whether they need it or not. Does that price need to be $19? No. At the same time, if you need a charger, you don't need to buy it from Apple. There are both better and cheaper options available.

It’s disappointing. Apple is going to save billions.

“Environment” my a—.

Why do you feel OBLIGED to buy a new power adaptor every time you buy a new phone, even though you’ve already had multiple of them at home and in the office?

Exactly right.

I’ll be coming from an iPhone 7. I will absolutely need the new adapter; I’m not going to charge an iPhone 12 Pro that’s meant to be charged with a 20W adapter with an old 5W adapter. And the old 5Ws are USB-A. Meaning, I wouldn’t be able to use the USB-C Lightning cable that comes in the box.
The old USB-A to Lighting cable from your iPhone 7 would technically work since they kept the Lightning port, AFAIK. But the charging would be agonizingly slow.

I'm upgrading from a 6s Plus and am actually glad they kept the Lightning port so I at least have the option to use my existing dock with it. Doesn't seem like I can use the full speed charging without upgrading the adapter, though I'm not sure since it's a third-party one.

While you're telling others what they have and don't have, I'm wondering if you could tell me how many adaptors do I have and where ... I can't seem to find them.

Garmin makes devices that cost as much as a phone, and they don't include the charging brick. If you're spending $1500 on a phone, you're probably an adult who can figure out how to best satisfy your charging needs. No point in giving others something they don't need just because some people might want the charger. It's wasteful and there's a vibrant market for chargers better than what Apple offers anyway, let the user choose what works best for them.
