Really?? Not a single iPhone came with USB-C. What makes Apple think that customers would have a USB-C Power Adapter?? If I'm only an iPhone user... then I would have never had a device that would include a USB-C Power Adapater

Yeah I'm surprised the editor said most people. I think our house has only 1 USB-C adapter, and trying to find it in the drawers would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

"Most people likely have several USB-C power adapters on hand from past device purchases." - In one sentence, why most people are broke all the time. Buy it when you need it. Not when you want it.

So the irony is - your USB A chargers are plentiful and Apple doesn't see a need to include one in the box, but we'll obsolete them by shipping you a cable that requires a USB C charger.

I'm OK if they do that, but don't say it's to save the environment. The environment will soon swallow those 2 billion, now obsolete, USB A chargers.
They're also assuming you have plenty of USB-A to Lightening cables. I probably have 10 in the house. I honestly won't use the USB-C cable until I get the MagSafe wireless charger for Christmas or something and I have a JBL USB-C wall wart already.

You may not, but many people do. I have a work computer with a USB C port, and my Nintendo device uses USB C. A lot of other things and devices use them and have power adapters for it. You are the center of your world, but not Apple's or everyone else's.

This shouldn't sell well. Buy one that has dual female ports, folding prongs, etc.

you mean if you have no other tech besides your iPhone? Quite a number of devices are now powered by USB-C (my computer, my mouse, my hard drive...). USB-C is clearly where the industry is standardizing on. This is a good thing. What pain one may feel today if they are this island you speak of, will be offset by the ease they will experience tomorrow. I know I carry far fewer chargers these days when I travel. One charger to rule them all.

Amazing how many people at Apple decided to go nuts over this on a 1500 phone by not giving us this and not reducing the price and then uttering their magic spell "good for the environment".

Plot twist... the additional cost of putting magnets in an iPhone is the exact same as the cost of including a charger in the box.

You're not getting a charger... but you're getting magnets instead!

So it's a wash... even-steven! :p

For clarity (and honesty), I feel like there should be a disclaimer when articles say "most people already have adapters" because most people, I assure you, don't have the 20W or above variants. They most likely have the older 3-5W adapters, which will take a lot longer to charge the newer phones or to take advantage of the quick charging feature.

Apple even markets the iPhone 12 models as being able to be charged 50% in 30 minutes, if you're using a 20W adapter. And they make sure to put a little * after it.

Every human on Earth who owns or has owned a smartphone or any other rechargeable device manufactured in the past 10 years has a USB port that can be used to charge a new iPhone. As does anyone who owns a computer or car.

End of story.

I couldn't find this charger anywhere
I think they said that's a Belkin one which they referred to as "being developed" or something similar i.e. implying it's a future release... looks like it could be a good option for those of us with both a phone and watch though, so I hope it comes soon and the price is not too steep.

While I am a MacOS die hard, I have been away from iOS for a while. And I'm a van of the new./old square edges. I was tempted to come back with iOS14 - however, my biggest gripe with these phones is:

Why still have a lightening connection? I have an iPad Pro, Macbook - all of which, including my headphones (Sony) charge from one cable. All I need to take anywhere is my macbook charger and I can charge any of my devices.

I'm not fussed about buying the brick (even though I understand the comments). At this point, I don't want to have a special cable just to charge my phone.

If the new iPhone was USB C I would have jumped on it right away. I know this may seem small, but it would drastically by annoying to have to rely on the one cable. I've heavily invested in USBC thanks to the Macbook/Ipad and Pixel phone I've been on.

Agreed, seems like a money grab. Take into account that buying the adapter doesn’t even include the cable.

seems safe to assume about the headphones, but not the adapter.

Forgive me if I’m wrong. But the iPhone 12 charges at a maximum of 12W, and the only USB C power adaptor Apple sells is 20w. Is it wise to use it, especially long term?

This is very annoying... sure I have some USB A chargers, but they are all being used in different areas of my house/office and are not in the garbage. Now I will need to buy new chargers.

If this were all about the environment, Apple would have either provided a voucher for a free adapter for those who actually needed one, to limit the distribution, or would have kept the included cable as USB A so I could practically recycle my old chargers. What's really going to happen is the new cable will get tossed in a drawer in my case.

Mind boggling at how many people will go nuts over $19 when purchasing a $700-1500 phone... especially since most of us here have an abundance of power adapters (which is the whole idea... less e-waste).
That’s because they can’t afford the phone in the first place.

That extra $19 is their food money for the week
