Really?? Not a single iPhone came with USB-C. What makes Apple think that customers would have a USB-C Power Adapter?? If I'm only an iPhone user... then I would have never had a device that would include a USB-C Power Adapater

The iPhone 11 Pro came with a Lightning > USB-C cable and 18W USB-C power adapter...

Not many people have USB C adapters, I have an iPhone 7, now if I buy the new iPhone, I would need to buy an adapter, it is just not me, there are so many like me who would need to get it, what about the environment then?

The place where I am from, the phones are 40% more expensive, this same adapter would cost me more than $35.

For me every penny counts, my freaking $1500 2017 macbook pro's screen is messed up and gets blurry but they are only replacing the 2016 model, what about 2017 and later?

I won't be surprised if they remove the wire next year, in 2025 they will even remove the camera. I only use this cause of IOS, I don't like android, if the new Galaxy phones or other brands had IOS then that would have been the best thing ever.

Can someone just shake up the industry and introduce a revolutionary product that will change our lives forever?

How Apple can say that is all for the e- friendly impact when it’s selling separately all the things missing in the box?!
It’s e-bul...*t !! And each charger, plug, etc will be sold in more cardboard and plastic packages 🤬

its kinda hilarious, the whirling rumor for years was Apple will one day finally ship an iPhone with a fast charger to... no charger at all included in the box. We leapt right past expectations

--

I thought nobody needed this? With billions of chargers out there? Hmmm

They're shipping for $19 + shipping LOL

Not 100% true. iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max came with the 18W USB-C power adapter for 13 months (2019-2020).

All iPad Pros for the last 24 months have also shipped with the 18W adapter. All Mac notebooks had iPhone-compatible USB-C power adapters since 2016. And in the end, if you don’t have one you can still buy one, once, and it will last several years.

A voucher would make complete sense and be a great goodwill gesture. Like you said with Google, and like Sony is doing with PS5 and VR adapters. I have to say though any iPhone 11 or the phones announced today are still much better than the Pixel 5.

That would be your carrier and regulators abusing you, not necessarily Apple. In other countries you just buy the phone, and Apple seems happy to just sell it.
I love the voucher idea and it would work... If people were honest. Apple could include a voucher for 1-100 (you choose) adapters and most people would request 100 even though they would have no possible use for them. If it costs money then they won't get it thus reducing the environmental impact.

i have one from my iPad, but the point is, they even cheapened things up by not putting USB-C on the new phone. So now, with their logic, i need to swap cables each time i want to charge each device. This makes no sense at all. just provide a block so both blocks are plugged in and i grab the cable i need to plug into my iphone.

Every human on Earth who owns or has owned a smartphone or any other rechargeable device manufactured in the past 10 years has a USB port that can be used to charge a new iPhone. As does anyone who owns a computer or car.

End of story.
You hilarious.. except to do that, you will need to buy a cable that USB-A that does not come with the phone... Im perplex how people are justifying this.. So you buy your phone, go to the car to charge it, but hey look your car only has USB-A... unless ? Wait what car has that ? So you go back and buy a cable..... think about it... its not end of story, it the start... smart would of been at least a USB-A/C adapter for the cable or something atleast if you are taking main source of charging for the phone...

Whats more scary, is people wont know, they`ll buy the phone and expect it to charge from the box and not come home and see that oh wait I need a USB-C charger then I need to get on amazon and wait a day to use my new phone ? Im confused and seriously baffled, I did not think they`ll go thru with this... but it is what it is, lets just see fall out from this if any at all..

would love to know what your source of information is on who owns what. but even if true, they may not today, they will tomorrow. Buy it and embrace the future. once.

And there is a reason they are a trillion dollar company. Smart businesses do not give away things.
Exactly. They will...eventually. Which negates Apples "for the environment" claim. Apple has always "given" (hilarious) a charger with their phones. They still made it. They don't have to get greedier. That's ugly.
They could at least include one with the MagSafe charger.

Right, it’s about the environment because Apple simply couldn’t figure out a way to offer the accessories as an option when ordering.

For clarity (and honesty), I feel like there should be a disclaimer when articles say "most people already have adapters" because most people, I assure you, don't have the 20W or above variants. They most likely have the older 3-5W adapters, which will take a lot longer to charge the newer phones or to take advantage of the quick charging feature.

Apple even markets the iPhone 12 models as being able to be charged 50% in 30 minutes, if you're using a 20W adapter. And they make sure to put a little * after it.
It seems like so many people have glanced over that fact, even in this thread. We may have a drawer of the 5w adapters collecting dust, but trying to charge one of the new phones using a 5w adapter will be agony, unless you happen to only charge it overnight. Definitely not ideal if the only way to fix this problem will be to order a separate adapter with a separate carbon footprint for shipping.

Nothing environmentally friendly about that, although it's mildly better than past years when Apple was including an underpowered 5w in the box and people were still dealing with the slow charging.

Curious, does anyone know how much faster a 20W adapter can charge (a new iPhone that supports quick/fast charge) compared to the 18W adapter?

There’s a difference between giving away things and money grabbing.

$19 is the IQ penalty fee on top of higher phone price.

$879 iPhone 12 128GB + $19 power brick

$699 Pixel 5 128GB with included power brick

it's a money grab or otherwise they'd offer to add one free of charge to your cart when you buy your new phone. Don't include it automatically but make it a free option....

Its always confusing to me, do you have to use a USB C to Lighting to get the fastest charge speed? Can you use a USB-A to lighting cable ?

USB A lightning cables are limited to 12 watts max. USB C to lightning can go to 30-33 watts with iPad Pro 2nd gen (3rd/4th gen obviously are USBC) or my iPhone 11 Pro goes up to about 21-22 watts exceeding the 18 watt adapter. So in other words, I'm pretty sure not even the 20 watt could max out a 12 Pro Max in charge speed.

About as useful as firewire cables, or the original 30 pin connector on the iPods. Or wooden wheels. I could go on and on. Technology moves forward. Feel free to complain but it won't stop the tide. Would it have been better if they made they change in 2019 or 2021? What makes 2020 so special that no changes should be allowed? (rhetorical question, I know 2020 sucked).
Most iPhone owners don’t have usbc chargers. They could have waited a couple of years at least.
